It's so good when you hear Karl getting started and Ricky instantly starts snickering in the background because he knows he's opened the floodgates
He's a stirrer
One thing I love about Karl is that he is surprisingly good at roasting people, although he doesn't do it often. He beats Steve at his own game even though Steve is a professional comedian and Karl isn't. He is so good at it that Ricky often has to join him against Steve because it is too funny. Also Karl has a thicker skin that Steve, he can take much more abuse before getting defensive, which is somerhing you need if you are going to roast people.
I agree. Steve is very intelligent, erudite and witty, yet Karl can often royally trounce him. Steve then resorts to reverse psychology or trying to deflect the heat towards Ricky. Steve is still great though. I'm always surprised at how most of the time the insults thrown at Karl are like water off a duck's back (though not as much as we might think according to the new kitchen reason for hanging in). Karl has achieved something pretty unique and phenomenal in my opinion: he hasn't let all the jibes and attention phase him or allowed any pressure to make him become attention-seeking, false or obsequious. He is in a calm state of mind that enables him to be himself. His natural personality flows out of him without being in any way affected. This has been said about him many times before, but the more you think about it, the more incredible it seems.

@@elbecko7969I dont know that he is in a calm state of mind; I suspect its that he is just one of those people that is oblivious to insults from all people except those he really cares for, solike u said water off a ducks back. Yup I think he did care for Steve, but not as much as Ricky. Also, Karl knows where to hit Steve where it hurts (his looks and stinginess)
@@elbecko7969 also the fact he didnt pass on that phone message for steve that someone left him for voice over work; he would have passed that message on properly if that was a message for Ricky

That's what they don't show in the Ricky Gervais show. The amount of times Karl unnecessarily rips into Steve just as much as Steve does with Karl. And then there's Ricky stirring it up in the middle. Its absolute gold 😂

There was one when Karl 'quit on air' in a genuine big mood because ricky was winding him up so much. Think thats what he was talking about in this clip when he mentioned walking home and thinking about not wanting to work with them anymore. They kept calling him a chicken for not standing up to the boss till he got genuinely pissed off.
That was one of the few times I thought that things were going a bit too far
