I refused Imperio just to see what would happen and discovered that you can in fact miss out on the spell. Luckily the game autosaves several files at checkpoints. Does this mean you can finish the game up to 100% without learning all the spells? This seems somewhat unfair
@@rocki_0161 I don't understand, did you do that side mission already, or did you never get it? If you did it, then you can't do anything for now, if you didn't get it, it's possible that you didn't go that far with the main missions.
Some additional information. You'll meet the requirements to unlock by: Reaching Level 16 Completing In the Shadow of the Bloodline Side Quest Completing The High Keep main quest and then one more after that
I see they nerfed the curses, especially Imperio, from how it is in the books... But to be fair, that makes sense. I've always thought Imperio was by far the most broken of the curses, especially after learning about how Avada Kedavra actually works. As Snape described it when he first taught it, if all the children in the room were to try to use it on him at once, it would hardly do more than give him a bloody nose. That means that Avada Kedavra isn't so much a killing spell as it is concentrating and directing energy into someone or something with the intent to hurt and deprive them of life, which as an adult usually does contain enough force to kill someone. So in theory there are creatures out there strong enough that they wouldn't be hurt or killed by that curse. Meanwhile Imperio is straight up mind control... Makes sense that they'd nerf that one too; only one target at a time, and strong targets can resist with enough willpower. I have a question though for the game -- do you have to be Slytherin to unlock the Dark Arts & other curses? Or can you belong to any House? Personally, I think that Ravenclaw suits my personality better than Slytherin. It would actually be in the nature of Ravenclaw to want to be able to know and use such Curses and employ the Dark Arts in addition to the normal arts, for the sake of a better understanding of magic and expanding knowledge anyway, I would think. Plus, Slytherin shouldn't get to have a monopoly over evil or using the dark arts anyways, and Slytherin house isn't even about that anyway necessarily, just being ambitious and eager for power. It would be disappointing if you only have the power to access the Dark Arts through belonging to Slytherin.
Glad we can grab them without finishing the story if we happen to be lv28+. 31 atm and more focused on 100% so the curses should spice things up. Thanks for the info !
From my perspective, magic is just a powerful tool: there is no a dark side/ light side of magic. Everything is depending on person who and how use it. I will learn every possible spell and use each of them if needed.

kids using Avada Kedavra with zero consequences? it was certainly a different time, but i like that about the game's time setting. It does feel more believable, like the wild west.
Avada Kevdara and Unforgivable curses were illegal since 1700s, but because it’s more dangerous times, even normal spells aren’t regulated They say that even used Leviation spells in such deadly ways back then, that are toned down in Harry Potter’s time, as if they discourage using neutral spells for combat
Snape also said in the lesson where he taught the children about the curses something like "If you all were to try using the killing curse on me simultaneously, you'd hardly do more than give me a nosebleed." Given that information, canonically it seems like Avada Kedavra isn't actually a kill spell so much as it is a concentrated force of energy focused with the intent to hurt or deprive of life, which in most cases happens to be enough to kill someone, but which might not work on every type of foe you encounter, such as if they are strong enough to resist it. Which also explains how Harry Potter deflected it.
If possible, please pin this comment! For anyone wondering if you can get the unforgiveable curses if you picked the wrong option, the answer is yes! You must first complete Sebastian Sallows questline, and then wait for his owl when he tells you to meet him in the undercroft.
