Two caveats regarding PR. Firstly, the Labour Party has always opposed it and has to be brought on board to support it. Secondly, the form of PR that is adopted need to be explained clearly to the electorate and needs to be a form of PR that really ensures every vote counts. Last time 10 years ago, when the Lib Dems tried to introduce PR, it was such a bad form of PR and so poorly presented and explained that the electorate rejected it.
Just use the simplest system, like the Dutch system. 10% of the votes = 10% of the seats. (In het Netherlands you need 0,666% of the votes to gain a seat in Parliament
It wasn’t a PR system the Lib Dems managed to get a referendum on, it was the Alternative Vote system which is not even a form of PR and delivers not much differently to FPTP. God knows why they didn’t push for PR 🤷🏻
There has to be some sort of change because at the moment politicians can just lie and lie and get away with it. Whereas a party can come up with a set of policies at election time, what must be avoided is someone being elected on a single platform and then if elected being able to pontificate on all sorts of subjects
Carol, bright lady, magnificent logical brain, deals in facts not a hypothetical can kicked down the road - provenance abounds from the Vord I’m all for her suggestions
Totally agree. We need a better voting system. A system that allows people to vote directly for the party they feel the need to vote in power. Get rid of this Stone Age system where by you have to tactically vote to win a few seats.
GBnews will hate Carol even more now as the truth hurts , politics definitely needs to change,I live in a strong Tory majority so I will play tactily and it certainly won't be a cloned Tory party REFORM.
Not just the young, even the old, like me, nearly 70 want an 'Alternative Vote' system than the current corrupt system that we have now. There's an online campaign called Change which has been campaigning for a new voting system for years.
Max you're spot on about the tactical voting. I would love to vote greens. Now that i can't vote for them as a second choice id have to vote labour. This pains me but the tories need to go.
The UK's political system is outdated and fundamentally flawed, as such it's not fit for purpose. Unfortunately the reality is there seems to be little support amongst the parties to actually drive forward meaningful change. Hell, as it stands now the two main parties of the UK represent far right and right. Carol's voice is one sorely and desperately needed within the UK and we need more like her with the reputation and platform to drive for positive change.
The message about getting rid of First Past the Post becomes ever louder, which is encouraging for reformers like myself who have been campaigning on this issue for decades - what was once a ripple of discontent has now turned into a veritable tsunami of rage - we need to make electoral reform (as an integral element among general Constitutional Reform) THE number one doorstep issue - every single time anyone from a political party engages with you, the first thing you utter should be something akin to: "Do you endorse a fully proportional voting method to elect Westminster MPs - if not, why not and you can forget my vote until you do" If everyone does this, change will come, much quicker than we ever thought possible!
The more airplay this gets, the more gnashing of Tory teeth there will be. Greased-Smog will be calling Nanny for comfort if the nation hears this. The ruling class will be getting very nervous indeed. Brilliant.

Day 1 of government, Labour must introduce PR. We will never see another Tory govt.
Tactical voting is the act of voting for the party you hate to avoid electing the party you fear.
I prefer to think of it as voting for the least worst viable option (no party is perfect)
I guess I'd better vote for bloody Starmer after all😮
Wow. I'm genuinely impressed. Somebody as well known as her doing something like this with her position. Keep going Carol.
Well said Carol
Carol Vorderman is listening to young voters, which is so important 🗳
PR, PR, PR, PR.
This is what a true patriot looks like. Someone who actually wants the long term best for the whole country.
@@johncm4420Thick as mince!
I'm really surprised they let her talk in length about such a serious issue on that show. Fair play to Sunday Brunch 👏
Good points
It wasn’t a PR system the Lib Dems managed to get a referendum on, it was the Alternative Vote system which is not even a form of PR and delivers not much differently to FPTP. God knows why they didn’t push for PR 🤷🏻
She tells it as it is, people don't like the truth.
Love this wonderful lady 💞
Absolutely correct. Top lady.
There has to be some sort of change because at the moment politicians can just lie and lie and get away with it. Whereas a party can come up with a set of policies at election time, what must be avoided is someone being elected on a single platform and then if elected being able to pontificate on all sorts of subjects
Who ya gonna vote for? Labour? More of the same im afraid!!
@garyfryer5334 Not remotely.
Good evening Max. So refreshing to listen to someone like this lady 🎉. Yes hero of the week 🎉🎉🎉
I feel sorry for all the ambulance staff who had to go to the GB Views studios after this was aired.
Love Carol Voderman.
Along Marina Purkiss.
I could happily die.
She's doing Gods work
❤ Fully agree. A complete challenge.
GBnews will hate Carol even more now as the truth hurts , politics definitely needs to change,I live in a strong Tory majority so I will play tactily and it certainly won't be a cloned Tory party REFORM.
We'll done carol for speaking up for the ordinary people
Great woman, and 100% correct as usual. And yes indeed, she DOES have "massive platforms".
Not just the young, even the old, like me, nearly 70 want an 'Alternative Vote' system than the current corrupt system that we have now. There's an online campaign called Change which has been campaigning for a new voting system for years.
Carol is a hero every week!
❤ i'm so glad carol is one of us x
Good Evening Everyone! ❤
Look at the balls on this woman ,she is an example of an outstanding human being
Yes, but us women have our own form of gonads. We don’t need your balls (sic)
Max you're spot on about the tactical voting. I would love to vote greens. Now that i can't vote for them as a second choice id have to vote labour. This pains me but the tories need to go.
Carol is a true gem, and way much more than her "huge platform" ❤😜👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💯
She is bloody brilliant!! xx
Carol is emerging as a sensible voice. I have become a fan.
i have listened to her before, i think she should run for office
Was thinking the same thing 🤔
She's amazing!
The message about getting rid of First Past the Post becomes ever louder, which is encouraging for reformers like myself who have been campaigning on this issue for decades - what was once a ripple of discontent has now turned into a veritable tsunami of rage - we need to make electoral reform (as an integral element among general Constitutional Reform) THE number one doorstep issue - every single time anyone from a political party engages with you, the first thing you utter should be something akin to:
"Do you endorse a fully proportional voting method to elect Westminster MPs - if not, why not and you can forget my vote until you do"
If everyone does this, change will come, much quicker than we ever thought possible!
The more airplay this gets, the more gnashing of Tory teeth there will be. Greased-Smog will be calling Nanny for comfort if the nation hears this. The ruling class will be getting very nervous indeed. Brilliant.
Good for her. Thanks Carol.
Well done Carol, I'm with you.
Well done Carol!
