I have to say, we, as a family of 3, are so grateful to you for your brilliant videos because we are planning our retirement there. We are located in South of France 🇫🇷 for the past 18 years from UK. Thailand looks amazing and peaceful 😌, this is what we need after many years of hard work. Thank you again for your videos. 🙏🇧🇷🇫🇷🇬🇧 and eventually 🇹🇭. 🍀🙏
Thank you so much for showing all of this. Beautiful memories. I used to live in Khanom when I was a little girl. My parents were working in the rubber plantations further inland and once a week they took us to exactly that freshmarket that you were showing. This was a real highlight for us kids. It looked very different over 30 years ago... But the beaches are still the same. Just stunning. For those reading this: A bit further down south there is Ao Thong Yee... Stunning beach. Like in a fairy tale :) Greetings from Koh Samui
Thank you for watching and commenting Ying, love this entire area you grew up in. And yes, Ao Thong Yee is simply stunning, I was so lucky to pull in there: ruclips.net/video/DBGT4xhLJmQ/видео.html
I went to Koh Samui in 1986 when it was truly an unspoilt paradise. overnight train from Bangkok to Surat Thani. then a long boat ride to Samui. I remember in the middle 1990s seeing a holiday travel program on Koh Samui...it looked packed with people. much like most Mediterranean beach destinations.
You're so fortunate to have seen it back then. You may not want to watch my latest vids on how it has evolved but thankfully there are still some quiet gems around Samui. Cherish those memories.
I’m so glad to have found your channel, although you made me cry... We stayed at Khanom Hill resort just next to your place there in 2018, and Emmi was our constant companion for 7 days. Always at our feet, day and night. We did go through a difficult period in our lives then and she was the dog we never knew we needed. It broke my heart to leave her, but I knew that she actually was a happy beach dog, not a rescue case. She chose the people she wanted to be with and lives a happy life. When I started to look into booking future Thai holidays and came across this video I just cried a lot of happy tears because she was still there, being happy, on Khanom beach. We’re hoping to come back to Thailand in August, and your videos are awesome. Merci from France.
Bonjour Sabine. Thank you so much for sharing your story. Emmi is like a happy caretaker of the beach. Wonderful that she was with you both at a time when you needed, maybe Emmi's an angel? Seeing her each morning certainly made me smile. Hope you can get back in August, perfect month with calm seas and brilliant hues. Merci & bon voyage :) PS: next time you are in Khanom, perhaps drop by to say hello to Mlle Nadine, also from France and a lovely, fascinating lady: ruclips.net/video/bwVt5uFEyRM/видео.html
Stunning beaches again and real looking sausage (none of that hot dog business 🤢) what more could you want. Though the view from the first little hotel was better than the second but still much better than looking at cold and rainy UK weather that we have now. ☔🇬🇧
Man, you have just found my new favorite place in Thailand! Loved the video! I have always loved Samui, but I also knew the surrounding mainland areas were beautiful as well! I will need to explore when I can get back there again!
As a Canuck, thought it was pretty good too and with Cumberland sausage no less, a very welcome find in wee Khanom! I also like proper English style with beans etc (Brit family roots btw;)
The highlights of the week. Your video published. Super nice area. Saved it in my Thai trip library. Me and gf will for sure look into that area. For short or longtime stay. Prachuap also interesting and we look into that, but now this maybe more on next trip
Very informative videos. Thanks. We were staying at Seabreeze House in January 2020 and have booked again in January 2022. Hopefully we will be able to go then. Miss very much the relaxed atmosphere, Joy the manager and Amy the dog
You did this three years ago. We are on scooters and going south out of Hua Hin towards this exact sort of place. Thanks for sharing. We will keep it in mind in December 2024.
Gee great area , Cool feel and keys in all bikes , says it pretty laid back - the food looked magic , Toyota Sera - yes there were a few around in Oz about 20 yrs back - the doors grab your attention for sure - Thanks STL - look forward to the next 😷🇦🇺🍻🙏👍
Mister, I'm loving your bog and reports .... I'm checking regularly if yr having new video's. Loving this area. Hope to travel later this year again Keep up yr work and stay safe .... looking forward to view yr next viv.
Thanks. No not 'locked down' and this was a couple weeks ago. However, things have tightened up since then and although still in the area and free to roam there are restrictions which I'm following of course.
Apologies for that. I simply click 'yes' and let YT do its thing. The payout is a pittance really but even a small bit helps the channel. Also, some say that clicking 'no' may cause vids to appear less often. YT does also offer a no-ads platform btw (note it quotes 159 baht hereabouts, not sure elsewhere): ruclips.net/user/premium Haven't tried it as I don't mind when I watch vids knowing it pays to keep the platform free to watch and also helps creators. Anyways, thanks for watching as far as you could, appreciated.
I guess l’ll have to wait till my son (5) gets a little older before making a road trip from Bangkok that far south. This absolutely beautiful area is now high on my list. Thanks 🙏🏻
After Philippines, Borneo, Java, Bali, back to Java, Sumatra, Singapore, Malaysia, went to Koh Samui that was in 1985... No construction, empty from hotels no airport etc... Then my friend and I went to Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Burma... 🙏
That was a beautiful and interesting video, thank you for that. On the side note, I understand how much you like the Vivo, but comparing your earlier Hua Hin and Prachuap videos, the quality with a separate gimbal with an iPhone was much better. Please keep up the great work and don't let the gear compromise your efforts.
Thanks Andrew. Regarding the Vivo phone, I just liked the simplicity of a built-in gimbal (1st phone in the world with this, so no adding extra gear & extra charging, packing etc) plus f/1.57 for low light but still dialling it in. For example, can't see the screen clearly in direct sunlight half the time so focus etc is in/out. As for older vids, those were all shot on my old trusty Samsung S7 believe it or not. Anyways, looking at an upgrade (X60 Pro +, much better, plus gimbal on wide angle this time) but don't really want to shell out until I've gotten good use from this one, so thanks for bearing with.
Thank you Colin. Dislike packing extra stuff and fussing about with gear (why i just use a phone really) but will try to get more drone footage in. Back to the Future Car? Same-same but different flux capacitor I believe;)
Hi from Parksville & soon to be Thai Ex Pat. Nice to see the smaller areas of Thailand still haven't changed too much but I found the cities had a noticeable change towards Farangs on my last trip. (Pre-Covid)
LOVE Parksville! (also went to school just up the road for a bit). Now, regarding change towards foreigners hereabouts - honestly, I almost never encounter this. However (and I'm not including you in this btw:) I have encountered many angry at the world type expats, seething and moaning their days away, being rude and even cursing at Thais in shops, bars, cafes, 7-11, etc etc and general non-stop complaining about everything under the sun (all the while acting 'superior' and demanding respect as if it were an expected entitlement). There was a time a few years ago Thai people looked up to and respected 'farangs' carte blanche. Unfortunately it may be that after several years dealing with the above types, some Thais are getting a bit jaded... (can hardly blame them). Luckily for me I never encounter anything other than respect, kindness, patience and politeness from Thai people, as this is also what I give. Anyways, I'm sure you'll encounter a vast majority of Thais who are similarly kind in your expat life to be. Cheers!
Love your vids mate, watched your first one earlier again you have definitely came a long way since then haha! Definitely improved for the better keep it up mate!
Cheers Scott. Still much to learn but hopefully going in the right direction. Btw, anyone else looking in, here's my 1st vid and now 2cnd fav beach area in Thailand: ruclips.net/video/Z7FE2_vqOcY/видео.html
Lovely area ...been to Samui over the years . Shame about the high-rise so close to the beach ,,,has kind of spoilt the vibe of the beach with one ugly building . This happened in the early days of Bali development at Sanur . Rules were quickly bought in to stop future' mistakes ' . Interesting vid ta !
It really is such a lovely area. Also, for the record, it's likely that 1 building on Naiplao beach is also a one-off as there's restrictions on beachfront height now. Let's hope so.
@@SideTripLife In Sanur , Bali after the first high-rise it was decreed that buildings were not to be higher than the tallest coconut tree . Of course its killing us Asian travellers , the covid years so keep the interesting vids coming ...👍 All best from NZ
I would recommend waiting a few months before travelling to Thailand, you have to sit in a hotel for two weeks off your own money before you can actually go anywhere
Stayed here before great little spot,I'd of stopped in 1st room you had it was better and I'm not fluent in Thai and it's good you give it a go but your terrible mate and best correcting self now rather than getting into bad habit.vids not bad I'll take look at some more of them cheers
Hi Gary, Yes, as I stated in the vid, my Thai is crap, khrap (but hey I try;). The 1st place was on a small but lovely beach a ways away from the main area. So, after a few days I wanted to also see the main big beach and have a look around. In next vid perhaps you'll see why. Anyways, thanks for watching & commenting, appreciated. Cheers, STL
Beautiful. If I may ask - how lax is the bike rental process? / As a Canuck living in the city - didn't need a license/car... but in BKK now and would love to rent a bike and visit these quieter areas
Sure. Bike, just had to show I.D. (showed my Thai DL but passport ok too I think -but must have MC/DL intnl/Thai for Police) + he took a photo & a small deposit. Here's a clip renting the bike: ruclips.net/video/J76HS2ksRjw/видео.html
Hi PP, thx for watching and commenting. Just checked and looking carefully the bill was 150 baht, then a couple seconds later I just captured the tip: ruclips.net/video/91Y6BwAZ6JU/видео.html Actually, I'm a tipping machine these days as folks are really hurting and despite I can't help everyone, every bit helps.
Absolutely. Serene beaches, mountains, parks etc, all just 45 mins to Surat Thani malls, shops, intnl hospitals etc (plus airport of course). Toss up between Khanom and PKK/Prachuap Khiri Khan, one of my 1st vids: ruclips.net/video/Z7FE2_vqOcY/видео.html
You've got me so confused. I'm definitely moving to Thailand soon (waiting for them to offer the 10 year residency and be able to buy a villa, not just condo). Do I move to Samui or Khanom??? :). Life is full of difficult decisions, especially the side trip life!
Thanks for following my vids Jeff. For any looking in wondering about the 10 yr visa proposal Jeff is referring to pls see: www.bangkokpost.com/business/2128383/measures-to-lure-wealthy-foreigners-hit-obstacle The proposal is a promising start but is still just a proposal at this stage which is subject to further details (such as suggestions to restrict purchases to limited projects etc etc). Hopefully they can still find a way to allow even limited land/house foreign ownership with a long-term visa (ala 'My 2cnd Home Malaysia' ). Anyways, before buying anything, would advise to travel to as many areas of Thailand as may appeal and spend time in each. If any area feels like 'WOW, this is IT' still DO NOT BUY. Best rent in any desired location for a few months first (airbnb or month to month other) to see if the area, amenities and lifestyle really suit. Meanwhile, ENJOY and best wishes on your future move to Thailand.
@@SideTripLife Great advice to travel as much as possible first. I know I need a beach and I've spent a bit of time in Phuket, I do want to check out Hua Hin and even the islands on the east side of the bay. Samui looks like it checks all the boxes for me, but we'll see when I get there. I may buy a cheap condo as a base really soon. I could always rent out my main place and go there or just pack up and travel. I still have a company to run, but I can do it remotely. Just have to choose massive growth (need a base) or maintain and travel more.
Cool video man! All my youtube videos are from Khanom if you guys are interested 👍🏼😊 Also Khanom is very very local place and everyone know eachother so thats why they had keys on their scooters. Also its not place for party tho. All ”bars” will close around 10pm sometimes they keep open longer if they do have customers or close earlier.. depends… Have a nice week 👍🏼😊
Thx Simo (great nic btw;) Have had a few comments asking about 'nightlife'. As you say, there is none (and that's just fine by me:) Well, outside of a quiet beer at Charlie's etc, or an infrequent chill jam at Jambay or Area 11.Thus, any reading this and looking for a 'Pattaya lite', no need to come, nothing like that here (thankfully;) Thanks for commenting Simo, glad I got that off my chest, you have a great week too.
I live here and you are so so wrong, the last 3 years of unrestricted development is killing Khanom and the surrounding area. that “beautiful coast Rd” was blown up straight through one of the most beautiful national parks in Thailand. 90% of the development is trash tourist stops to feed the Thais appetite for selfies.
Appreciate your local input Ian and fair points raised. Ok, so here's the main dreaded 'selfie' stops along the coast road: 1: Khanom Lookout ruclips.net/video/J76HS2ksRjw/видео.html 2: Loma Cafe ruclips.net/video/DBGT4xhLJmQ/видео.html 3: Coco Beach ruclips.net/video/DBGT4xhLJmQ/видео.html (personally quite liked Loma Cafe viewpoint;) This is juxtaposed by many, many, mainly natural secluded spots: 4: Random secluded beach ruclips.net/video/DBGT4xhLJmQ/видео.html 5: Ao Thong Yee ruclips.net/video/DBGT4xhLJmQ/видео.html 6: Another secluded gem ruclips.net/video/DBGT4xhLJmQ/видео.html 7: Final curve view, wow ruclips.net/video/DBGT4xhLJmQ/видео.html (As you may say, sure but with that road not for long - hope not but...) Anyways, I hear you. BTW, just as an aside, I 1st came to Hua Hin 20 years ago and commented what a quiet gem it was. My Kiwi neighbor almost spat out his coffee and said what an abomination it had become... Meanwhile, anyone arriving for the 1st time since, mainly still say 'what a gem' (and a few years hence perhaps say 'what an abomination'... The common denominator? US. ALL of us who came to visit and/or live in these areas, which unfortunately propels further development. The best we can do is A: do not visit or move to these areas, or B: come but try to be as good a local steward of said area as possible circumstantially. As for development and seeing the couple hi-rises etc in the area, I hear that directly along the main beach that is no longer possible and if so, that's a very, very good thing. Still, the unfortunate reality is, development will continue, just hopefully in a more sustainable manner going fwd.
I notice you like "Shower Separate" . You sound like a Tesla driver. :) If you keep showing off my home to the general public; I can no longer recommend your channel.
Lol! Shower +toliet together no biggee, just prefer separate as don't like tracking water after a shower & trip to the loo. Like Tesla's too but if curious can see my top all round EV pick here: ruclips.net/video/zocCznL7CAQ/видео.html (edit to add: Nice Crib Phil;) Cheers!

Sure. Bike, just had to show I.D. (showed my Thai DL but passport ok too I think -but must have MC/DL intnl/Thai for Police) + he took a photo & a small deposit. Here's a clip renting the bike: ruclips.net/video/J76HS2ksRjw/видео.html
Thank you very much, after the corona i defently go to Khanom🙏😄🇹🇭. Do you now if there is a ferry wich going direct to Phangan island ? Thanks 👍
Thanks for watching. Ferry to Koh Phangan, yes, just 30 mins away to Donsak pier.
Nice vlog m8 ,i miss Thailand so much ,your videos are keeping me sane m8 lol
Nice place. I lived in Thailand for 4 years and been visiting for 20. I hope you gave a tip at Frankie’s.
Hi PP, thx for watching and commenting. Just checked and looking carefully the bill was 150 baht, then a couple seconds later I just captured the tip: ruclips.net/video/91Y6BwAZ6JU/видео.html
Actually, I'm a tipping machine these days as folks are really hurting and despite I can't help everyone, every bit helps.

Wow! Are you kidding me? So beautiful and inexpensive. Would you really consider moving there instead of the the islands?
Absolutely. Serene beaches, mountains, parks etc, all just 45 mins to Surat Thani malls, shops, intnl hospitals etc (plus airport of course). Toss up between Khanom and PKK/Prachuap Khiri Khan, one of my 1st vids: ruclips.net/video/Z7FE2_vqOcY/видео.html
in pnom pen they stole my bike right on the first night. and i didnt leave my key in!
For any looking in wondering about the 10 yr visa proposal Jeff is referring to pls see:
www.bangkokpost.com/business/2128383/measures-to-lure-wealthy-foreigners-hit-obstacle
The proposal is a promising start but is still just a proposal at this stage which is subject to further details (such as suggestions to restrict purchases to limited projects etc etc).
Wow ... heaven!! How big is the town? Is there a private hospital or at least good medical facilities there? Thanks
Will show a tour of the small town upcoming. There is a good 'local' hospital but private hospitals are 1 hr away in Surat Thani.
Would really appreciate links to hotels you view. Thanks!
My first time there was 1996 😄😊
Haha the menu in frankies, coffee...not coffee
Cool video man! All my youtube videos are from Khanom if you guys are interested 👍🏼😊
Also Khanom is very very local place and everyone know eachother so thats why they had keys on their scooters. Also its not place for party tho. All ”bars” will close around 10pm sometimes they keep open longer if they do have customers or close earlier.. depends…
Have a nice week 👍🏼😊
Thx Simo (great nic btw;) Have had a few comments asking about 'nightlife'. As you say, there is none (and that's just fine by me:) Well, outside of a quiet beer at Charlie's etc, or an infrequent chill jam at Jambay or Area 11.Thus, any reading this and looking for a 'Pattaya lite', no need to come, nothing like that here (thankfully;) Thanks for commenting Simo, glad I got that off my chest, you have a great week too.
❤️
The condominium looks really outa place at the beach.
Better than Samui 20 yrs ago. And the local power structure seems aware of the pitfalls of development on the scale of Samui or Phuket.
Ok, so here's the main dreaded 'selfie' stops along the coast road:
1: Khanom Lookout ruclips.net/video/J76HS2ksRjw/видео.html
2: Loma Cafe ruclips.net/video/DBGT4xhLJmQ/видео.html
3: Coco Beach ruclips.net/video/DBGT4xhLJmQ/видео.html
(personally quite liked Loma Cafe viewpoint;)
This is juxtaposed by many, many, mainly natural secluded spots:
4: Random secluded beach ruclips.net/video/DBGT4xhLJmQ/видео.html
5: Ao Thong Yee ruclips.net/video/DBGT4xhLJmQ/видео.html
6: Another secluded gem ruclips.net/video/DBGT4xhLJmQ/видео.html
7: Final curve view, wow ruclips.net/video/DBGT4xhLJmQ/видео.html
(As you may say, sure but with that road not for long - hope not but...)
Anyways, I hear you.
Why are you publishing this?
Agree stop building crappy hotels
It’s a place to visit not live.
I notice you like "Shower Separate" . You sound like a Tesla driver. :) If you keep showing off my home to the general public; I can no longer recommend your channel.
Lol! Shower +toliet together no biggee, just prefer separate as don't like tracking water after a shower & trip to the loo. Like Tesla's too but if curious can see my top all round EV pick here: ruclips.net/video/zocCznL7CAQ/видео.html
(edit to add: Nice Crib Phil;)
Cheers!
@@SideTripLife Thanks, but not Tesla curious. :)
I get that Phil but perhaps watch this brief 3 min summary of my EV vid instead:

Dusty Gecko restaurant in Khanom town run by a finnish friend named Mikey is probably one of the best in Thailand. His smoked fish is to die for.
Tell him Eddie from Pakistan said hi:)
Eddie, you'll be pleased to know in the next vid I ran into Miki at his villa resort - and also for sure visit the Dusty Gecko upcoming too! So pls stay tuned (and I have a feeling he'll see your nice comment btw;)
@@SideTripLife Mikko n his thai wife are wonderful folks. Mikko does wonders with thai beef and he now makes smoked ham n cheese. Just thinking makes me drool:))
