    What do you think of the Cayman S?

      Just got one. Traded my '07 RS4 and '04 S4 Audis w/ slightly over 50K miles each. Those were manuals as in the 917 Cayman S. Outside of those V8 Audis being manual,s and all having what I'd term stellar acceleration, the similarities end there. A completely different experience in total. The Cayman S is a pure sports car, it approaches a super car feel (I believe you said so). Sitting almost as low as possible in a car built to use, and having a nice power band, the Cayman grips and carves a curve in a way that builds confidence. You can do virtually every bend with less decelleration, plus power through it quite aggressively when you hit the top of the arc. FUN! Now it's a bit loud, and like you say "I mean this in a good way". Like the overall ride and feel, which do an amazing job of coupling one to the road surface, the manual and the engine sound communicate a visceral and direct connection to the powerplant. You feel you are more "one" with the car as such, not the least reason being this is a responsive size, slung as low as current engineering can achieve in a daily driver, further tweaked with that magic mid-engine/trans center of gravity. We're talking synergism of orders here. I'd say the HP is more than most anyone's definition of fantastic. It's probably not a stretch to say this car has loads of 911 Turbo DNA and makes it what I'd call a bargain in comparison. Truly enjoyed your review.

      It is better than the 911! 😂. It is $25000 cheaper too!

    Excellent video mate! I’ve had my 718 Cayman S for 3 months in the UK and have to say it’s hands down the best drivers car I’ve ever owned. Used as a daily car it’s pretty darn practical with front and rear space, comfortable, 37 mpg+ on motorways and plenty of power when you want to put a smile on your face. Take it out on twisty roads, sports+ and pasm and you are in driving heaven my friend. It’s an amazing combination of mechanical excellence and beautiful automotive art. Forget the 4 cylinder dullards who can’t cope - get behind the wheel, feel the experience and never think about any other 2-seater sports car again 😊

      @martingladwin .. +1 .. Agree 100%. My 1990 944S2 3.0l was/is a superb driving, balanced Porsche. Oh yeah, its 3.0l is a 4-cyl. .. The beastly quick & balanced 944 Turbo S could smoke the 911 coupe of the day, all day long and in every metric. . Oh yeah, the 951 Turbo S 2.5l is a 4-cyl. .. Sure, my '98 993 C2S 3.6l sounds like a chainsaw at full rant. .. The turbo 718 Boxster / Cayman twins are a bargain. .. With the seriously high dollar GTS 4.0l twins,,, I'd think twice, three times,, before spending my money. .. P.S. No one ever mentioned the exhaust note of the 944 series. .. Never!

    A bias free video! Very well done! I own since 6 years a 718 Boxster S. my original intention was to keep it for a couple of years, but I decided not to sell it. Looking forward to the next 6 years!

    Between a base and an 'S.' in the used market I would choose the car with the options I wanted. I'd take a fully loaded base over a minimally optioned 'S.'

    Coming up on my second year of ownership in my 2022 Cayman S.
    Best car I have ever owned, and I came from a 2018 Audi TTRS.
    I find the whole engine note 4 cylinder versus 6 cylinder is way overblown. Sure the six sounds a little better, but the four is way more streetable with a better torque band.

    I just traded my beloved '07 RS 4 manual (w/ only 54K miles on it) for the '24 Cayman S manual. Being used to V8 naturally aspirated instant torque and ample HP I was a little skeptical about the 4-cylinder Cayman S. Much as you stated, the lag is close to non-existent and the power and torque the 4 delivers with the well over 1000 lb weight loss makes the Cayman S feel faster than the V8 Audi. The Cayman is such a wonderful driving experience overall that no sedan, no matter how spec'd out, can hope to equal. I would wager there might be some 911 drivers (lower versions of course) that do not get this level of car and driver experience. The '24 Cayman S is like a bit of an easter egg of a driving package which unless you experience it first hand you simply couldn't understand. Enjoyed your observations.

    The dealer said they can't do a test drive in freezing weather because the tires can't handle it, some type of Michelin pilots. Dry, no salt, does that make sense? I imagine the base would be enough for me, i have trouble not getting in trouble with my '08 MX-5 and '20 Corolla SE.

      Tough but if you mean Cayman GTS with the 4.0 then that. If not then 991 911. The 4.0 is such a sweet engine.

    So many videos confuse ps with hp. PS or PferdStarke is the metric measure of horsepower. It is the equivalent of 98.6% of one HP… this car is 350PS which is 345hp

    • @Encourageable
      @Encourageable 8 месяцев назад

      Per Porsche, it’s 350hp, not PS.

    Good overview .................... BUT your comments here make ZERO sense: @11:35. The $12K uncharge for the S is crazy considering the very minimal power delta.

    • @douglasreynolds5476
      @douglasreynolds5476 2 месяца назад +3

      That 50hp takes it from slightly slow to slightly fast. Also it’s the same 2.5 engine that was in the original 718 gts tuned down slightly. You can push it hard and worry less.

    You said that the Cayman's times were 4.2 sec = "S" and 4.7 sec = Base.
    Then you said that the "S" with Sport Chrono Package was faster at 4.0 sec.
    Explain what the Sport Chrono Package does.
