@@calciumchloride710 I’ve always taken it two ways - a) it’s a mock-serious joke line. B) simultaneously it’s like, we’re all reaching/flailing towards something/someone bigger and trying to fulfill our foolish dreams.
Incredible, just incredible. It’s 2022, and if I’m alive in 2032 I’ll still be coming back to this video. I have it on Apple Music, and it’s nice to have the middle verse in that one, but something about the version from the film just wrecks me every time I hear it. This is my favorite take of one of my favorite songs.
I understand they wanted to headline Hedwig on Broadway with a big name, but John Cameron Mitchell is/was Hedwig; always will be. I saw this in previews at the Jane Street theater in 1998. Not a big musical fan, but this one I love.
I had watched this musical before with somebody that was just a passer by, and I just watched this with my boyfriend (who came from this wicked little town in Mexico), and this musical made so much more sense and made me sob while watching it. The importance of sharing artistic experiences with the right people is just mind blowing. Then again I have lived through different shit too by this age than 12 years ago.
'I played again once in Berlin. Zey threw tomatoes. After the show.... I had a nice salad....' He delivers that so dryly, it almost doesnt register as the cracker joke that it is 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I like traditional musicals. You know, MGM or RKO stuff. And yet, two of my favorite musicals are the insane musicals Tommy and Hedwig and Angry Inch. Hm, gotta throw Beyond the Valley of the Dolls in the mix, too! All three are absolutely awesome!
everyone who's here from riverdale, do yourselves a favour and watch the movie or better yet the 2015 john cameron mitchell broadway bootleg here on youtube. they're amazing.
I didn't see this movie until 2022, just a couple months before my gender confirmation surgery. It shook me to my core. I literally wept. I love this version, But it's the Tommy Gnosis version that breaks me, Because that is when Hedwig is finally seen by someone important to her, that truly matters. Because as a transgender woman It's to be a singer in the songwriter I can tell you, to be truly seen by someone you love is everything. After my surgery I sang the Tommy Gnosis version at karaoke night to the locals before I moved away to the big city.
If anyone cannot see the comedic genius along with a truly poetic twist which everyone should be able to sing along to. Umm, what was I saying? Nevermind just enjoy!
You'd have to be made out of concrete not to be moved by this song the ABBA mini musical weirdly fits with all of the songs from this show I wonder at least
"The fates are vicious and they're cruel. You learn too late you've used two wishes, like a fool". What a poignant line.
I can so relate... except that I used all three of my wishes like a fool.
I’ve had a hard time thinking of a more brilliantly bittersweet line in rock history. Bravo, Mssrs Trask & Mitchell.
I love those lyrics ♥️
"And if you've got no other choice, you know you can follow my voice..." ♥️♥️♥️

I know right. Haha. She's the best. She's actually got a really beautiful voice with that one "ah-ha" she does in the harmony.

The beauty of this scene is that it makes you both laugh and cry at the same time. Plus the killer song.

omg my thoughts exactly
I knew this from riverdale hedwig musical special episode and the original is just wow im obsessed with classical musics
Omg. I remember laughing so hard when the lady kept on riffing the guitar and then getting teary eyed as Hedwig segued into the next song
You know the sun is in your eyes
And hurricanes and rain
And black and cloudy skies
You're running up and down that hill
You turn it on and off at will
There's nothing here to thrill
Or bring you down
And if you've got no other choice
You know you can follow my voice
Through the dark turns and noise
Of this wicked little town
Oh Lady Luck has led you here
But they're so twisted up
They'll twist you up I fear
The pious, hateful, and devout
You're turning tricks till you're turned out
The wind so cold it burns
You're blowing out and burning 'round
And if you've got no other choice
You know you can follow my voice
Through the dark turns and noise
Of this wicked little town
The Fates are vicious and they're cruel
You learn too late you've used
Two wishes like a fool
And then you're someone you are not
And Junction City ain't the spot
Remember Mrs. Lot and
When she turned around
And when you've got no other choice
You know you can follow my voice
Through the dark turns and noise
Of this wicked little town
