    Konrad Curze could vanish into the shadows and be unseen.
    Corvus Corax could stand in the middle of an open field in broad daylight staring right at the enemy and be unseen.
    Bad. Ass.

    Corax had the honor of being the only brother that Konrad Curze actually hated. Corax was the opposite of the Night Haunter as far as justice was concerned, sure, but the real reason was more amusing than that. The Night Lords may have been masters of the night, but Corax was the night itself.

    I loved the Corax character. He didn't fold under any tragedy or pressure. He wasn't the realm ruling type like Guillaman but I think he knew and became what the true potential of a primarch should be without corruption. I believe he is what the Emperor intended in the long game.

    Petty Turbo take note.
    Not only eschewing honors, not only taking time to preserve the lives of civians as well as his Legion, but also taking direct action when his Legion got used in a sledgehammer fashion.
    Where as the IVth were so stupid, they just headbutted walls and whined about, never changing tactics, Corax REMOVED the Raven Guard from Horus' command when they were suicided against an armored area to ensure smarter tactics were utilized.
    Additionally, when dissapointed upon reuniting with his Legion, he didnt kill them at random in decimation, Corax selected the offending parties and sent them off in a predation fleet.
    And Corax fought for the common man.
    Absolute unit.

Shoutout to the Ravenguards special ships with their cloaking tech and that one time Corax warp jumped next to an enemy ship just so it would get sucked into the warp unprepared as an f u on his way home.

    I want a Russ / Corax buddy novel so bad. On the outside they’re so different but they’re the two primarchs that are most pure in their loyalty and fully embrace their purpose without resentment or insecurity. Plus they already like each other (not to mention the fact that Odin’s companions were wolves and ravens). I just love the idea of those two showing up and Magnus and Lorgar shitting themselves.
    The other detail I’ve always found fascinating is how CC is able to see past the “illusion” the Emperor projects the very first time he saw him. And that he managed to trip Big E up recalling details E thought he’d wiped out. Usually the Emperor or Malcador react pretty badly to these things even from primarchs, but E didn’t seem threatened by CC having this level of power or with him knowing things he’d hidden from the rest of the primarchs.
    There is so much potential for his character in this era.

I believe his first appearance, chronologically, is in either the short story Kryptos or in the novel Angel Exterminatus. His adventures with the Sisypheum crew continue on in the short story collection Shattered Legions, and ends in Sons of the Selenar. I believe that is all the books he is in (at least the ones I have read/owned) but I may be missing other stories that he is in. Another thing to add that shows Corax as simply apart from the others.
    He is the ONLY person, so far as we know, to actually get a glimpse of the Emperor's true physical form, seeing through the Emperor's psychic projection to see the small old man under it all. Corax is not a psyker. So for anyone, much less a non]psyker to break any psychic power of the Emperor is remarkable.
    Corax is also one of the most balanced. He has emotion for humans. He can fight one on one, in small groups, right up to commanding the RG, Imperial Guard and Titan Legions together as one fighting force. He is a master of special ops warfare of course, but he is extremely good at almost every other mode.
    I am an RG, sp biased. but simply on what we have seen him do - he knows maybe more than the other, what he was. And he knows how to use his gifts. The definition of the quiet, competent commander.

    • @armyfirefighter
      @armyfirefighter 6 месяцев назад +4

      @kittycats2827 At least we think that's what it was. When Corax first saw the Emperor when he landed, where all the other humans were in awe and kneeling Corax was confused because he saw a small older looking normal human at first. It was only later that he saw the giant golden armored man everyone knew as the Emperor. Corax also remembered the face the Emperor used when he was in his gestation pod - something the Emperor showed surprise that he would remember that.
      So it very well could be.

    • @GangstarComputerGod
      @GangstarComputerGod 3 дня назад

      I commented on that too because it seems that he was seeing the “real” human form of the Emperor. I believe both Malcador and Big E (and maybe one of the other prepetuals) basically say that he takes whatever form he needs to accomplish his goals.

I need them to free him, I have all (or at least most) of the books which follow either Corax or the Raven Guard in general and I desperately need and want more of them. Corax is great. He has so many flaws that I absolutely love picking apart and analysing but somehow he is still so likeable and inspires so much sympathy in me. Gav Thorpe did a stellar job with him in the Horus Heresy line in my opinion. I am slightly biased because I see a lot of myself in both his strengths and his flaws, but I do think he's pretty damn cool. I cannot honestly say I believe he is the greatest primarch (though he is my favourite and one of the greatest in my heart) but he's pretty high up in the rankings if I do my best to be completely non-biased about it.

    Corax definitely has flaws, because he'd be boring if he didn't. While principled, he's not immune to hypocrisy, especially where dear old Dad is involved (in his defense, Emp's manipulation has a lot to do with that). His perception of justice is uncompromising and rather unforgiving, which isn't a surprise given that he picked it up from (justifiably) angry incarcerated revolutionaries. Like his brothers, he also has a temper, and when he's REALLY pissed off, he gets vengeance-minded tunnel vision that's almost as intractable as the Black Rage.
    And he is, to put it lightly, awkward with people outside of command situations. Learning fine social skills was not a priority on Prison Revolution Planet, and it shows. Conversations with him are a bit surreal even for other primarchs. That's if you can even get him into a conversation - he can turn invisible, he's not socializing if he doesn't feel like it. The irony of him being overlooked by most of the community is he'd probably prefer it that way.
    He's also angsty and broody, of course, but that's part of the appeal, imo. Batman isn't popular for nothing, after all. If you're into Corax, you're at least a little into angst. And like, it's not exactly unjustified in his case. The guy's gene-seed flaw is literally terminal depression. When his sons come down with it, they go on suicide missions. Corax just kinda lives with it. And after the conga line of shit that includes the Istvaan massacre and having to put down his own mutant children... yeah, I'd shut myself in a tower and brood for a while, too.

    • @RoTTRavVe
      @RoTTRavVe 2 месяца назад +2

      Well Raven Guard have a couple other gene-seed flaws one of the less talked about one is as referred to by the Raven Guard "Going Ash-Blind" is very similar to the Black Rage the Blood Angels deal with. Only real difference is their eyes that are black go white and once afflicted they go to a specific chapter of others who are also afflicted also unlike the Black Rage those Ash-Blind will martyr themselves to complete a mission these individuals are one of the reasons he beat Gullieman in those war games.
      Another aspect about Raven Guard that is kept secret from all other space marines is what Wraithslipping is (This is their stealth abilities) i do not remember the source so it may not be completely accurate but its thought to be a low level psyker ability unique to the Raven Guard and not all Raven Guard can even use this ability. Its a well kept secret from all other space marines and the imperium as a whole.

    • @ceejno7861
      @ceejno7861 2 месяца назад

      @@RoTTRavVe The Sable Brand IS the terminal depression. Instead of rage, it puts them in a state of despair and nihilism. Which, being Space Marines, means they go and kill things even harder because their self-preservation has gone bye-bye. (The good news is that if they survive the suicide mission, they're usually cured. Usually.)
      Since the primarchs are affected by their geneseed strengths and flaws too, I suspect Corax's perpetual depression is related. He's basically got lowkey Sable Brand 24/7 and he's used to it. Admittedly it's a fan theory, but he makes a lot more sense if you think of it that way.
      And yep, the wraithslipping is a psyker ability. Those who inherit it, which is very rare, are called the Mor Deythan and are the ONLY ones who get to know about it. It's funny bc most of the Legions have weaknesses they hide from the others, but the Raven Guard also hide their greatest strength, even from themselves.

    I haven't heard great things about the writing of his HH books. A shame bc he seems like one of the most interesting primarchs.

      They're written by Gav Thorpe, and while he has his strengths, deftly handling a subtle and complex character isn't one of them. There are some great scenes, but a lot of far from great ones, and in general his characterization seems to slide around a lot. Granted, he's not an easy guy to get into the head of. Guy Haley rose to the challenge a bit better, imo - he only wrote one Corax story, but I felt like he really captured his vibe and interactions with others.

    Yes, yes he is the greatest! Great series! Made me think a lot. I have a higher respect for the some of the heretic Primarchs npw. Even the Night Haunter.

    The fact that this video is only slightly longer than Lorgars is concerning. 😮

    And yet he's barely useful to the Loyalist. Heck, even locked in his tower Lorgar is still useful to Chaos Corax, yeah missed opportunities there GW

    Go a video without throating guilliman..he is not arguably the greatest tactician its literally stated as the lions role amongst the brothers..guilliman is organized and efficient which covers a broad spectrum..seriously man, 1 video plz lol

      Yea that is clear as day in the lore when it comes to leading an army no one comes close to the lion, when it comes to leading a world or an empire that is where Guilliman comes into his own.

    I want to like Corvus.
    But the name. I just... the name takes me right out of any serious conversation about Corvus. Same as with Ferrus Manus. Their names are just so terrible that I can't take them seriously without making an actual effort.
    As for his Greatness... eh. He's not a top-tier Primarch. He's the Second-in-Command type of Primarch. He would be a fantastic second to Guilliman or Dorn - or even Lorgar (who COULD be a Primary if he applied himself - which he could do as a champion of Chaos Undivided, but not the Emperor as Lorgar can wage Holy War on his enemies like none other - but the war needs to be "Holy" in nature.). His Legion WAS a fantastic "second" (to a degree) to Horus before Corvus returned. His role in the Primarchs is as the second fiddle, filling in the gaps where the primary leader is less capable. But he's not good as the Primary.
    And if you're going to be the Greatest... you have to be a Primary.
