As an FYI, when the Zehnder rep was here to commission the HRV, he noted how it was nice that we had this much separation between air intake and exhaust. We continue to be very happy with this system after being in the house for a month now.

    Hi,
Could you tell me how did you calculate Volume for ventilation. Simple air volume calculation or did you take something else into consideration?

Isn't the main intake/exhaust supposed to be on the same side of the house?

2Awesome I haven't heard of that. The building code is more concerned with separation of the exhaust from the intake/doors.

Miphi Home If the wind blows for example from the side of the house where the intake is, more air will move through the intake and positively pressurize the house. (and negatively when air blows into the air exhaust)

2Awesome That is a possibility, but in a different video I explained how we couldn't cut a 7" hole through our TJI and have the proper separation from the air exhaust, so the simplest was running it straight out the south end. But, it's not "required" to be on the same side.

Miphi Home im not sure on how far apart they should be, just that they should be on the same side of the house, i guess you would have to run it under the TJI joists which would be kinda be an eyesore. One of those energy standards gives you points for having the hrv/erv closer to a walls, maybe that's how they recommend it idk. Just found it, 6+' separation between intake/exhaust and at least 4+" off the ground for exhaust and 18+" off ground for intake

How do you like this unit now that you have been in the house for 4 years? Very expensive system when compared to a Broan HRV install. I got a quote for $11k for materials only for a 3200 sq ft house
