I’m 22 and qualified earlier this year as a radiographer. I started work in August at a Hosptial in Glasgow. I have so many thoughts on my mind right now with what happens next in my career. I’m extremely exhausted with the shift pattern (aka 6 day weeks, only 1 day to recover after nightshifts), run down equipment ( some over 20 years old) and bad pay ontop of that with hardly any opportunity for overtime unless CT trained ( which is unlikely to happen for me because the career progression is apparently bad there). Ontop of that im an hours drive to work and back with 0 parking at the Hosptial unless on a nightshift. Sorry for that massive rant. I’m not in a great headspace right now because I’ve worked 4 years in university for this in Scotland. Every part of me just wants to take a break and travel but I know I need to get the experience under my belt. I always wanted to become a doctor yet I’ve continued on this course saying things would get better. My only interest in radiography is reporting and Ultrasound. Hopefully it will have worked out what my plans are this time next year.

Sorry to hear that. I hope you manage to think things through and decide on something that works for your life and work also. In a year from now I’m sure you’ll be in a much better head space!

@@DoctorKenji very true will always be the hello to us back in Kenya and here in you tube, you have helped do many poeple including me , I adult student at Solent university which quite new but it fights into my life style , I can tell you without watching your new tube I just don't know where I would have started , I followed your first essay samples and all your ideas of becoming biomedical science to your journey , obviously for me 🤣 will be the end of it but you only started you can abroad
I watched most of your shifts at psychiatry breaks and I'm really glad you went into that field too There's so much to learn into that field because I worked those locations as healthcare assistant for 8 years and I know what it means to you and the patient ,there's one thing always stick in my minds , is that time when I go to bed and sleep until morning , honestly briefly there's so much going on at time in peoples lives , you can never tells that poeple we live different until when you spend a night into A/E or psychiatry wards
Everyone who works from those 2 locations doesn't really matter if you do it one month or many years , every little it makes a difference to those people, so thanks so much for choosing them and giving care from your knowledge .
Well , back to my story of watching , I got interested in biomedical and I'm on year 1, at the moment I'm on my desk watching your microbiol Gut 🤣 as I follow steps and ideas of how to right an essay 🤣 I have got a literature review to hand in on 10th Jan and my eyes popping out now 😱🤣
Doctor Kenji bye for now and thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with so many people like me who had no idea that science it is we reapply appreciate , our hello from Kenya 😘

    Hey Kenji,
Just an idea that seems to be popular with junior doctors from the UK. They seem to come to Australia, more specifically Western Australia. The pay is higher, you have closer consultant supervision, and it's reportedly less stressful than the NHS. The lifestyle in Perth is amazing, big enough to have big city vibes, but not so big as to be congested. The city is only 15 minutes away from the beaches. The weather is pretty good. There are heaps of junior doctors from the UK in Australia, and as medicine is such a small community, you may even know some of them. Most stay for a few years, but some stay indefinitely. You may not even have to get a full-time job to migrate (I'm not so sure of the actual procedures of migrating) and choose to locum throughout the country, getting accommodation and travel paid for you, and getting well renumerated. If neurosurgery is still an interest, there are unaccredited neurosurgical junior registrar positions available as well. Just food for thought.

I can’t believe how many of your thoughts are identical to mine. I feel like in Medicine despite being ‘the cleverest of the class’ our skill sets are far more limited compared to other careers, which makes it even harder to not conform to the traditional training pathway. I knew since before graduating I’ll be taking an F3. Good luck with your journey ⭐️

My advice to you is to complete speciality training FRCS or FRCP UK, and then apply job US, Australia or Canada for high pay. Good luck!

Do we have to pay tuition fees to work in the nhs as a pg?

Get as much research experience as you can during med school! Find a consultant who runs a lab and start under their wing
