Travis, thank you so much for this excellent interview which I will be sharing widely! I've "followed" polyvagal theory for about ten years now. I first ran across the term "polyvagal tone" from a company that specialized in helping parents with autistic children. I've read (and reread) Dr. Porges books, and Deb Dana's books. Nevertheless I've never been able to articulate a clear and concise description of polyvagal theory, until now as Seth has boiled it down to: feelings of safety, or not, and how that affects both our body and cognitions. Brilliant!

Thank you! I have also read Dr Porges other works and Deb Dana's and have completed numerous trainings through Polyvagal Institute (PVI) - this latest book Our Polyvagal World - takes it all and creates a clean, easy to understand concept and puts it into every day life. Yes feel free to share with whomever you think would and could benefit! You can also find it on PVI's site and newsletter.

This is very interesting! Dr Porges written words might de more difficult to understand by non science trained people but when he speaks his voice provides a melodious sense of caring and understanding. I feel safe listening to him.
However , when Seth writes his words might look safer to read, on the page . But when he speaks he sounds demanding and too fast. His voice does not conduct me to a feeling of trust and safety. I know he is benign but my immediate reaction is to protect myself and go to my head . My ears ache and I do not feel safe.
He will eventually learn, I know, once he feels safer.
