When the package gets delivered to the store locker they send you the 6 digit code to your “order” in your Amazon account . You will then have 3 days to pick up the package. You show up at the store you choose and just walk straight to the Amazon locker, type in the 6 digit code and the machine automatically opens with your package. In the case of the last woman, the video evidence showed she had paid and went past a register on one end of the wide store, then she turned the cart around and went back into the store, walked until she was as far as possible from the register she paid at, and then she dramatically pushed her cart past that clerk without paying or responding to the concerned store employees. In other words, she drummed up the controversy and basically tricked the employees into thinking she had stolen in a very brazen way. It looked like she was trying to generate a law suit so she could easily win a big payday. She was tired of waiting for actual racism. Her actions appeared to be so intentional about misleading the store that the judge agreed any reasonable person would think she was stealing and decided to dismiss her case with prejudice.

Being a delivery driver is a very difficult job. For that driver to defend that home and catch that porch pirate in the act was very heroic. That delivery driver definitely needs to be given a raise. He did some thing that was above and beyond the call of duty. My mom is a teacher of the visually impaired. She goes above and beyond the call of duty every single day. She teaches kids pre-K to fifth grade. It was because of me that she was inspired to go into the field. She's in now. I've been blind since birth, and, I have been this way for 37 years. My eye condition is called retinopathy of prematurity. It's stems from low birthweight, and other factors. I have no retina, no lens, and no iris. My eyes are not normal. Sometimes, criminals can be so dumb, they have no idea what they're getting themselves into.

My former elderly neighbor received shipments of medicine and catheters from her pharmacist. She was immobile for 3 years and suffered without medicine. These fully-fledged pieces of garbage would steal her packages and then probably toss them in the garbage when it wasn't something they could use or sell. Then, re-ordering the medicine and equipment was a nightmare. Pharmacies have to be VERY, VERY careful about people ordering the same medicine twice in a single week. She suffered for about two years from these human pieces of trash. So all the medicine was re-delivered to MY address and we used a lockable drop box for her medicine. If I ever got my hands on one of these putrid wastes of oxygen, I would definitely spend time in jail...and I'd feel good about it. I would be proud to tell people - "One porch pirate will never walk well again."

The last woman is just ridiculous. I've bought back pills at Walmart dozens of times. They're almost $40 per bottle and the cashier almost always forgets to deactivate the anti-theft device so I set off the alarm when I leave the store almost every time. I get stopped by security every time I trip the alarm. I pull out the bottle of pills, show them my receipt, they deactivate the device and I leave the store with the items I've purchased. I'm a mid-50s white woman and it doesn't matter to me or the security what colour my skin is. It's their job to protect the store, not to protect the feelings of the shoppers. I could get upset. I could refuse to show them my receipt. I could blame the store for forgetting to deactivate the device. I don't because it's a simple misunderstanding. Their machines are saying I didn't pay for something. The colour of my skin makes no difference. If I refuse to comply, I would end up in cuffs in the back of a cop car. It's just common sense which is sorely lacking in far too many people these days.

That said she should've just handed him the receipt, but honestly as a black person that has been profiled by security at my job (black guy no less), in stores (followed multiple times), in Spain, in Argentina, & in the Dominican Republic, I can understand her becoming indignant after being asked for a receipt even though she paid.

@@Exxtol1 There is a distinct difference between "profiling" and and officer making contact with a possible suspect based on the description given by store employees as in this video. People also fail to understand that if a police officer patrols in an area that is 70-80% black residents, then the VAST majority of their citizen contacts are going to be with people that are black.
And in regards to your statement of it being understandable that she'd become indignant - any reasonable person that paid for items, who the store then questions whether or not they paid for them because they didn't see them do it, would simply show their receipt showing that they did. It's the overarching victim mentality that most people in society want to have that cause situations to turn out like this. Every person in this situation would have the same two options - be argumentative and earn yourself a trip to jail, or just simply be a reasonable person and show your receipt (like this supposedly racist police officer was doing while he was literally begging her to just show it to him so he could leave her alone and they could both go on their way).

Your world is not _the_ world. This woman's life experience, of which you know nothing, may have prompted her to get her back up after being confronted in front of her niblings. It's humiliating, especially because she's innocent of the accusation.
By 50, you'd think not to judge unless you've walked in someone else's shoes by now.

The cops shouldn't be operating off of hear say. They should be doing a proper investigation. It would of been easy to verify if she purchased the items by viewing the cameras or sales records. Could of easily had another officer go into the store and confirm or dismiss the accusations while the original officer talked to the suspect. Like sure she could of given the receipt but what if she threw it away? I do that all the time, then what? Did you see the surveillance video? Yes, it was an obvious setup. She started by paying at a register on one end of the store and then quietly went back into the store with her groceries, walked to the far end of the store and then loudly exited in a way that forced the store employees to notice she was leaving without paying at the registers. On the surveillance video, it looked like she was trying to get herself arrested so she could sue the store or police or both at the end of the game.

Last week, while walking around in the Best Buy store in Manhattan, I picked up a $9 earbud and then continued browsing. Minutes later, I was approached by a security guard who asked whether I had paid for the item. For a moment, I thought about feigning outrage, etc., since I was still inside the store, but good sense prevailed, I offered to hand it to him until I was ready to pay or leave.
I eventually purchased another item, paid for both, showed my receipt to the same security guard by the exit, and took the subway home. Couple decades ago, when I was in my late teens, I might have chosen an alternate, unnecessarily confrontational route.
Only reason I am sharing this anecdote because I am proud of how much I have matured. :)

It looked like she was trying to generate a lawsuit so she could easily win a big payday. She was tired of waiting for actual racism. Her actions appeared to be so intentionally misleading the store that the judge agreed any reasonable person would think she was stealing and decided to dismiss her case with prejudice.

Maybe she "should have" a lot of things. I say she was justified by being angry. Maybe she should have handled herself differently.
I think the cop is wrong in this, too. He was too focused on the recept. Maybe he needed to refocus and review the store videos. Whatever.
It's easy to sit in an armchair and figure out what went wrong. Many people committing would also be pissed if wrongly accused.
