I was front row right of center at the show in Orlando Florida. November 29th. Steve was 10 feet in front of me most of the time. Amazing show !! I was so glad to see this tour because since it's release Passion & Warfare has been my favorite instrumental album ever. To see it front to back including a handful of my favorites off some of his other albums was great. I also saw him last April on his Generation Axe tour & back in February 1987 on the DLR Eat em and Smile tour with Billy Sheehan. Missed some in between then and last year but i'll never miss him again when he comes through Florida.
I remember seeing him on the Eat 'em and Smile & Skyscraper tours. His 80's racks were much larger Bob Bradshaw rigs back then. Physical modeling technology sure has made touring simpler.
Why do I like Steve Vai? Hmm... Amazing musician, yes. But also a very cool down to earth kinda guy that is approachable. I think he is a mastermind when it comes to marketing. I would love to meet this guy and have him sign my hand made guitar amp signed by many other top selected musicians. I am making history ;-) Vai is one of my favs... Thanks for the post!
Scotty D James Taylor, Steve Lukather, Joe Bonnamossa band, Brad Gillis, Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton, Kerri Kelly, few others.I thought for sure Billy Gibbons would sign it but he wasn't into it... I was somewhat let down on that one... my ultimate goal is Steve Vai, Eric Clapton, Paul Gilbert, Eddie Van Halen...(the whole reason I ever started playing guitar) Eric Johnson would be cool and of course Joe Satriani... oh yah and where is Andy Timmons these days... I always joke around and say we are related because we are from same place and have same last name so it would be cool to meet that guy but in all reality Steve would be over the top ;-) I have pics of the amp maybe I should do a video... I have quite a few followers it's amazing solid quilt top maple, based off a fender 5E3 hot rodded with new old stock tubes from the 50s made in the good ole town where I live... which happens to be where the greatest music store on the planet resides Sweetwater. I love this town for music .. musicians are more approachable, it's more laid back easy going and less worries. Of course I'll go anywhere for a good show;-) do you have any autographs?
Out of everyone that signed it. Id have to say that Joe Walsh is my favorite. Man that is sooo cool. Surprised that Billy Gibbons wouldn't sign it.... What's up with that ? Ive got a Stone Temple Pilots signed guitar.. A Kerry King signed BC Rich and a Washburn signed by Paul Stanley. Don't get me started on Ace Frehley...... I spent $430 on a VIP meet & greet and he wouldn't even sign any musical instruments. I took my pick guard off my Les Paul Traditional to the meet & greet (if you could call it that) he wouldn't sign it Talked via his bodyguards and was rude as to people. Waited over 3 decades to meet him. Now i wish that i never did..... I was paying off a Ace Frehley reliced Budokan at the time. After meeting him i got another 100watt head instead & he lost a longtime fan. He was the reason that i started playing.. Ah well..... I really like my new head !
Awesome! We caught the show in Durham, NC. It was so cool to see all the songs from P&W played live! I was wondering how that slide stowage worked on Bad Horsie. The secret is out! Thanks for posting this video!
Wouldn't it be amazing for someone to design a program that took the room layout and altered all the inputs for the reverb and delays and effects so that you always get the best setup.or is there something like that out there already,I'm not sure
I want one of those Legacy Preamp Pedals :-) When will t be released this year?? Help my pro rig big time in Tokyo, Japan. Thank you Greg Wurth for such infirmative abd really hip videos :-) Peace n Love
Hello. He didn't stop using them. Evo has one installed right now and Flo III has been pending a repair so in the meantime it's fitted with the standard neck.
Awesome tour and awesome record! I was on the Mexico concert! Now I have to question... Why the Jem 7 never appears on the tour... Gravity storm and some tracks of Passion & Warfare need the 7 string... So why it doesn't appear on stage or this hardware?
Ironically, the 1 Whitesnake tour he did was the only tour where he played primarily 7 string guitars. Ever since then (early 90s) when he started touring as a solo artist, he rarely ever even brings any on tour. When he does, its played for like 1 song. Considering his vast musical catalog, there are very few songs where he even used the 7 string in the studio.
Lucas Sola hello. The midi foot switch is the Fractal MFC-101. The gear in the rack is a Line 6 wireless receiver. Fractal Axe FX II, Carvin power amp (to power the Carvin monitor wedges) , and a Furman power conditioner
IrishGuitarist1 i'm not convinced he uses the 1s either. Have seen pics taken from the drum riser and the amps are on but have no cables in them. An extra amp (bogner?) was behind the stack.....
That name is 'Girly' used for gravity storm...there are only two 'Girly's in existence...this one in the video is 'Girly I' and there is a 'Girly II" both are hand painted by Steve..."Girly I" has a rosewood fretboard (scalloped), 3pc neck, fernandes sustainer, single coil and stacked humbucker at the bridge. Tremolo is Lo-Pro Edge, chrome. "Girly II" has a maple fretboard (scalloped), 3pc neck, noiseless single for the neck, middle and bridge position. Other hardware is the same as on Girly I. But this guitar has some active circuitry, I guess. There are two red lights where the sustainer witches regularly are and there is a compartment for the electronics on the back.Steve said that the pickups on both are custom voiced DiMarzio single coils.
I love steve and dont mean to slam him but i have always felt his talent and knowledge is greater than his actual guitar tone. I just feel he needs more of a signature sound like say Ty tabor or Brian may.
Why on the pic appear with 7 strings guitar if him don't play anymore with this guitars and i really miss His 7 strings guitar specially for Passion tour when he started with 7 strings (he have a rhythm guitar player with 7 strings and 6 ) but why he can't play for a few songs maybe he like have this 7 strings guitar even ibanez gave him More 7 strings guitar if him don't play anymore maybe must be make a guitar giveaway 7 strings guitar I'm still tried to buy a 7 strings guitar 🥴
I have been watching his video's and I see mild elder abuse at times. He put together a series of videos documenting one of his not too distant tours. Think of the xmas special the Grinch who stole Xmas.. the scene where the dog is pulling the grinches enormous sleigh. There is a clip to Thomas pushing Steve's gear thru the airport after a 18 hour flight. The poor old guy was struggling and Steve and his son gallop through the airport telling each other they love each other . He makes snarky comments to Thomas here and there about a multitude of things. I understand the guitar tech need to do these types of things its his job. These vidoes area also very strange...his son is on tour. They kiss and tell each other they love each other 20 to 30 times a tour. I guess Steve's father relationship was rough.. probably why he spent so much time trying to be as good as he is. The son needs to step up and help out Thomas... it's and old guy and a young guy.
Micheal Ravilob however you think you saw it, it still is Thomas's job, and he gets paid extremely well. Calling it elderly abuse is disrespectful to Thomas: He's doing his job well, and you're saying he shouldn't be doing it anymore on his own, like he has been for 40 years.
Steve Vai, besides being one of the greatest guitarists of all time, is truly one of the most nicest, and humble people i have ever met. Met him years ago and he was very kind, then recently he found out through a friend of a friend that i have been sick (kidney issues), he took the time out during his most recent busy tour just to Email me personally to tell me to keep fighting he commended some books for me to read and was just soo supportive. Pure CLass. Can never say enough NICE things about this man! BTW I am getting better, so much better that my band has started recording our second album. Best, most unpretentious and concise rig rundown ever! Thank you!
Best Comment Ever. Thank YOU!
Dustin Plumb - Unpretentious & Concise pedals are kept backstage and are switched by a roadie.
Look up the work unpretentious and its antonym... there are several pretentious comments Steve made in this rundown... especially about the Fractal
When I watch rig rundowns I’m not always totally focused. But with Steve. I’m front and center, focused. Living legend for sure.
I could listen to Steve talk for days as a aspiring guitar player myself. Such a cool person with insane talent. Love ya Steve!!!
I was front row right of center at the show in Orlando Florida. November 29th. Steve was 10 feet in front of me most of the time. Amazing show !! Such a nice and respectable man . He will for ever remain one of my favorite shredders
I remember hearing P&W when I was 12 or 13. Life changer for sure. And I´m a drummer! :D Thanks for sharing...
JulianFernandez There's a LOT of great drumming on PaW...Between Deen Castronovo and Chris Frazier.....I mean come on.
That's it? OMG, 0_0, how much has Vai changed through the years. Admiration!
I feel like I was there on the stage speaking with Steve and looking at those guitars. I believe this is the closest I'll ever get. Thanks a lot!!
I remember seeing him on the Eat 'em and Smile & Skyscraper tours. His 80's racks were much larger Bob Bradshaw rigs back then. Physical modeling technology sure has made touring simpler.
When this guy talks, I listen.
I was at that show in Scottsdale, it was fantastic
Steve Greenberg What venue was this at? I'm from Scottsdale.
Scottsdale performing at at Civic Center
Great rundown. So Steve started the Passion and Warfare tour in Scotland and finished in Scottsdale, neat. It was a great show in Glasgow. "heads up!"
sad to hear evo breaking apart
Yes very sad :(
It had an accident years ago where the body cracked and that crack is making trouble bigtime now.

Ah well..... I really like my new head !
I forgot.... Do a video on your amp ! Sounds great !
Steve is extremely good at presenting things, please let him do it and stop interrupting! :D
Wow. Never knew that Steve still busts out Evo on the road. Thanks for the rig tour
Awesome! We caught the show in Durham, NC. It was so cool to see all the songs from P&W played live! I was wondering how that slide stowage worked on Bad Horsie. The secret is out! Thanks for posting this video!
Great video. Looking forward to having Steve on the show.
Absolute Excellence Vai Total Master Saw him several times with friends , he was flawless each time/no shit/all respect Steve ! And Thank You
I really enjoyed your show in the summer, you truly are amazing.
Glad you enjoyed it. You know that this isn't Steve's account right?
Greg Wurth of course lol just sharing my experiences.
watching the rig get smaller and smaller each time is amazing
oh too bad is was the end of the tour ... I was looking forward to seeing you somewhere in South America.
Whenever I see that mirror jem I always think about that amazing performance of Building the Church.
Five years late but still super cool
Vai is such a cool guy.
Greg, a Legacy preamp :O we need a full reviewof that
Ok I'll get that in the queue
I bought the Woody. Just an awesome sounding guitar!
Cool Steve.
Many thanks Greg for these videos¡¡¡¡¡
Right on thanks for watching!
"You know its actually a simple rig" tell that to Angus Young jajaa
That was awesome 🤘🤘
Great video, this channel Rocks!
Wow amazing 🙏🏻
What a down to earth dude!
What a GREAT guy
Don't let anything happen to evo! That guitar is almost my childhood. I' praying for her
Is the MAIN amp that was sold at Julien's Auctions last week? Is there a database of "SVA" amp #'s? They sold SVA4, 7, 14, 49, 50, etc.
No way to tell. We have dozens of identical amps and cabs that were allocated for tour.
What about his bad horse Morley wah? He's just using a standard crybaby. Nice.
Because he's an opportunist laughing at all the sheep who buy his signature gear
What a pro.
What does Steve think of the Edge Zero II? That Woody guitar is really beautiful.
its not a favorable trem
Standard cry baby Wah ? what happened to his bad horsie one?
I'm curious about the legacy drive pedal...soon to be released?
satchifunkilus probably this year
my name is steve vai, and these are my awesome glasses. and then the video ends.
Thanks for watching! I'm not sure on the release date of the pedal but I assume this year.
Thank you so much for your time Greg. Appreciate it!!
Legacy Drive Pedal :0 OMG
Legacy pre amp?! I'll take it.
Love Steve's playing....the Legacy amps tho? Not so much
I'm interested in that legacy preamp pedal I saw
Can't find it on carvins website
That's b/c it's still in testing stages this is a sneak peek. It will have a proper announcement when it's complete.
Hey greg! Thanks for the rundown. Do you happen to know why Steve stopped using true temperament frets on his guitars?
Hello. He didn't stop using them. Evo has one installed right now and Flo III has been pending a repair so in the meantime it's fitted with the standard neck.
What does he use to organize his cables? I saw a really large one and i think the cables are inside, so where can i get some of that?
Pedro Gil it's a cable sleeve
Awesome tour and awesome record! I was on the Mexico concert! Now I have to question... Why the Jem 7 never appears on the tour... Gravity storm and some tracks of Passion & Warfare need the 7 string... So why it doesn't appear on stage or this hardware?
Neuroboy Pi Gravity Storm was recorded with 6 string. For live Dave uses 7 string to cover those parts
@@GregWurth you're completely right! It was weeping China doll
@@NeuroBoy314 Well I should know since I engineered it ;)
Xavier is the nicest looking guitar i have ever seen.
Nice guy
Genius 🎸 player
i would love to kiss evo at the headstock. that thing is a legend!
HEAVY
I kinda liked the Friedman..2:53
Hey Greg
What's the black thing on the back of the headstock?
TheSAJ11 magnet to hold Allen key
Girly reminds me of the Hendrix' Montery pop strat.
vriendelijkegroet that's what he modeled it after
Por isso do som, tanto equipamento foda!
Hey Greg, he uses a Line 6 G90 wireless?
He uses wireless sometimes
Those Line 6 G90s are KILLER
I'm surprised Steve Vai was not using a single 7-string on this tour.
Dave Weiner did. :)
I've heard him in the past say he doesn't care for them.
Yeah i think Dave Weiner is on 7-string duty for his tours now
Ironically, the 1 Whitesnake tour he did was the only tour where he played primarily 7 string guitars. Ever since then (early 90s) when he started touring as a solo artist, he rarely ever even brings any on tour. When he does, its played for like 1 song. Considering his vast musical catalog, there are very few songs where he even used the 7 string in the studio.
Wonder what he’s going to do for amps now or whether he’ll just keep playing the Legacy anyway.
Of course he's going to continue to keep playing them. The amps don't disappear when the clock strikes 12...
Anyone remember gain up gain down and reverb?
Great video.. I love how down to earth Steve is... so very humble. This is why he is in my trinity of guitar gods.. I only worship 3 and he is one..
Joe Satriani and Eddie Van Halen (Eddie is why I started playing back in the early 80s) I appreciate all guitarist but these are my 3.
Hendrix, Slash and Knophler must also feature in yr pantheon surely?
I also worship George Harrison and Gary Moore.
P&W Anniversary Tour without a swirled JEM??
Anyone can name the midi controller and the gear on the rack? Thanks!
Lucas Sola hello. The midi foot switch is the Fractal MFC-101. The gear in the rack is a Line 6 wireless receiver. Fractal Axe FX II, Carvin power amp (to power the Carvin monitor wedges) , and a Furman power conditioner
Thanks so much Greg.
well that was an eye-opening. Must have said, WAT?? about ten times.
haha thanks for watching
I wonder why he hasn't been using FLO recently. I know he's using FLO III but I haven't seen him play the original FLO in a while.
Matt Nardone because flo is in bad shape. It has a huge crack. It's only being used in the studio
Oh okay, I did not know that about FLO, but I do know about EVO having a body crack as well.
dude..!! whats gona happen to the legacy VL300 amps you had at Carvin??? you should produce them yourself
I'm sure you're aware of the Synergy Module?
@@GregWurth sure.. i just wish i had hundreds of dollars to just buy "new gear" at the drop of a hat...
Joe blo don’t we all? ;)
is it me or the lights? but doesnt woody's body look different? I didnt see any of the pattern in the finish on the body
the lighting makes the body look much darker and the grain less visible. you can see better photos of it here www.vai.com/guitars/ibanez-jem77wdp-3/
Guitar god :)
Did you see his house's basement?
I know it well
What's that face when he say, i ocasionally use it, which where the realy tone is? Is that a product placement? The package isnt open yet....
He doesn't use the Bad Horsie wah?
ha...he never used the legacy III's live.. knew they would eventually be left behind.
IrishGuitarist1 i'm not convinced he uses the 1s either. Have seen pics taken from the drum riser and the amps are on but have no cables in them. An extra amp (bogner?) was behind the stack.....
David Tomkins defiantly used the 1s when I saw him in 2014
David Tomkins lol he's not playing tricks. He uses the 1's and 3's in studio all the time. Mostly the 1's live
whats the name of the 12 years old guitar?
do you mean 'Girly' his guitar that his wife said it looks like a 12 year old girl painted it?...hence the name Girly
tweevers2 which ibanez was the guitar that he used on gravity storm?
But i mean the full name of the guutar because i was thinking about buy one like that :3
That name is 'Girly' used for gravity storm...there are only two 'Girly's in existence...this one in the video is 'Girly I' and there is a 'Girly II" both are hand painted by Steve..."Girly I" has a rosewood fretboard (scalloped), 3pc neck, fernandes sustainer, single coil and stacked humbucker at the bridge.
Interesting thanks!!!
"It's really a simple rig"... as he reals out a surfboard full of electronic doohickeys.
Does it bother anyone else that he doesn't use the monkey grip when he picks up his guitars?
I love steve and dont mean to slam him but i have always felt his talent and knowledge is greater than his actual guitar tone. I just feel he needs more of a signature sound like say Ty tabor or Brian may.
Sei grande, mà na chitarra acustica no ??
👀
WHY YOU CANCEL SAN ANTONIO STEVE WHY
He doesn't play any 7 strings anymore?
Marc Southworth he does in studio
Dave usually plays the 7 string rhythm parts live. On the last tour (Story of Light) I only remember Steve playing a 7 on Weeping China Doll.
i got that annoying yousician advert for the thousandth time today
Why on the pic appear with 7 strings guitar if him don't play anymore with this guitars and i really miss His 7 strings guitar specially for Passion tour when he started with 7 strings (he have a rhythm guitar player with 7 strings and 6 ) but why he can't play for a few songs maybe he like have this 7 strings guitar even ibanez gave him More 7 strings guitar if him don't play anymore maybe must be make a guitar giveaway 7 strings guitar I'm still tried to buy a 7 strings guitar 🥴
He played 7 string on the story of light tour, did you catch it? It's also on the Stillness In Motion DVD
And all of Vai's amps go to 11.
for sure ;)
only 6 guitars cool
No signs of elder abuse today. Steve was polite to Thomas for a change.
what are you talking about?
Wow, never thought of steve that way, im gonna look it up. Thanks for explaining!!
Micheal Ravilob however you think you saw it, it still is Thomas's job, and he gets paid extremely well.
Calling it elderly abuse is disrespectful to Thomas: He's doing his job well, and you're saying he shouldn't be doing it anymore on his own, like he has been for 40 years.
i hate to see the guitar players who have signature amps and pedals go the fractal way. Guess im just old fashioned.
Vai is using the Fractal ONLY for wet effects and is routed in the effects loop of his Signature Legacy Tube Amp.
did he say wife? I thought he was... you know..
rajjad he's been married for 30 years
Fractal sonic scheiss. Funny about the off the shelf crybaby no more bad horsie... pathetic
one sounds better than the other....
SIMPLE RIG?? TO MUCH CRAP THAT KILLS THE PURE SIGNAL
