What is Nada Yoga, the inner sound, the sound of silence ?

  • The Nada is an inner sound that can be heard in the ears and head and which resembles the murmur of the wind and the continual lapping of the ocean waves.
It is a very precious support for remaining present during meditation and in active life, as it has a continuity which is precisely what human beings habitually do not have.
Edward Salim Michael (1921-2006) described in detail the various ways of using this inner sound in two of his works "The Law of Attention" and "Inner Awakening and Practice of Nada Yoga".
This video is made up of extracts from Edward Salim Michael’s teachings in relation to the Nada.

Words cannot express finding this video. This sound although I’ve heard called the Om vibration, the song of G-d, the psalm of G-d, the cosmic sound, the celestial sound, obviously are just words and descriptions. The way that he described this process and how he called it a rope from G-d, & a call from G-d, was so beautiful that I was simply transfixed listening to him. I have a new perception of hearing the sound using it as my constant meditation (as well as the global bodily sensation) , & not just tuning in and out of it although it’s there but not have that level of gratitude. I absolutely love his attainment of striving to listen to it 7 days a week, constantly, all day, because this current is constant.

Having not watched this for a year or so
I came back to listen again while listening to the Nada.
In my eyes this is truly an inspiring teaching from a great teacher.
Thank you for posting. I was in need of this reminder.
    May many people benefit
    from hear and reading
    Edward Salim Michael’s teaching.

I, too, am returning a year later (and a year after you!). Seeking inspiration to reacquaint myself with the Nada. The ending of the video I find particularly affecting, akin to a rallying cry. And now I'm determined... All the best.

Bhagavad-Gita 10-38...... of secret things I am silence... In silence we find Nada the sound of Tai-chi,the sound of the yin yang frequencies that each one of us produces according to our state of consciousness. For me it’s a way to walk with the Lord.

A fantastic human being who has accomplished the spiritual path. But because of not associating himself with any religion, he is not well known and famous. Nevertheless if you truly pay attention to him, he has realised the divine within.
