I watched this while I was winding a very tangled skein of thread onto a bobbin 🙂 I really enjoy your videos. I hope you make more sometime and I thing the quality is great as it is.

This is actually how I learned to do alphas so long ago on Heather's Friendship Bracelet Forum! When I got back into making friendship bracelets, I was surprised to see so many people using the other alpha technique on two tone bracelets when this method is much easier in my opinion!

Thank you for showing us this technique! I remember trying it a few years ago for a letter alpha which was one of my first bracelets but I really want to try it again with a more complicated pattern. Yours looks amazing!! 💕

I find it so interesting that you're so good at bracelets already but haven't tried this technique before cause as far as I know this is the 'original' alpha technique haha

I know it’s weird right?! I didn’t even know about alphas for a long time, then I resisted doing alphas because the ones I saw were all the newer style with the threads going across on the back and I hate how messy that looks lol!

How long did you cut your base strings for this? I was wondering how long they have to be to use this technique. Also I'm halfway through this bracelet and I love it!

The more knots you make with one base string the longer that particular base sting needs to be.
I know that I need about 1 cm per knot of that color. So I count how many knots each base string makes and add that amount in cm to my normal base string length.
      Hope that was understandable.
Also you should mesure beforehand how much string you use for a knot with that string, because that can vary with different knotting tensions and different string

I definitely cut the base strings longer than I would for a regular alpha, because I knew I would be knotting with the base strings too- I cut them longer than I needed because I wasn’t sure how much I would need. You need more than you would for a regular alpha, but less than you do for normal patterns. The other comment sounds like a good formula to use 🙂

@@harukastorm4 Thank you! that makes sense. I've wanted to try this technique but I wasn't sure how to measure the base strings!

Hey Courtney, how long do you think the leading string would have to be approximately? I’m need make sure I have enough of the color I plan to use. Luckily this video was very helpful in how to learn to add a new string in this type of alpha pattern 😉 This is an awesome bracelet!

And one more question, how long is the bracelet you made including the triangle ends without the ties? I might have to skip the first diamond to fit my wrist.

@@harukastorm4 I’m know Courtney used the short Treadwox strings, and as such maybe she remember how many of those she used. That would help me figure out how much I need of the multicolored string I plan to use. I cannot handle too complex maths on my first alpha pattern 😉

Hi! I’m sure it depends but for this bracelet I think I ended up using at least 6 yards, maybe 7.

    • @patternandcraft
      @patternandcraft  4 года назад +1

Tone Hjetland I need to measure it but I think about 5.75” maybe? I usually make my bracelets between 5.5 to 6” to fit my 6” wrist (including triangle ends, not including ties).

Thanks! Yes I believe it’s 11 base strings. The pattern is 45174 on BraceletBook 🙂

Another question... if my one of my base strings gets shorter, can I change it like you did it in the video?

    • @patternandcraft

I think I did about a yard because I wasn’t sure how long they needed to be but I knew they needed to be longer than regular alpha... and that was plenty, there was extra left over.
