I thought forward swept wing had problems going supersonic because of pressure buildup at the wingtips causing them to twist Both SU 47 and X29 were abandoned because of this?
@@kentl4386 This was one of the reasons, but not the main difficulty. The twisting of the wings manifested itself only during active maneuvering (the estimated cruising speed should have been Mach 1.6 and for active maneuvering it had to be reduced to 0.9. However, at speeds over 1.5, no one is engaged in aerobatics anyway). The biggest problem is the transition between Mach 0.9-1.1 and Mach 1.8-2 - at these speeds, airframe vibration appeared, which, according to calculations, can cause loosening of fasteners and / or destruction, and each time a long service was required before the flight. The reason - errors in the design of the airframe / the curse of the reverse wings / the use of the engine in the afterburner (the plane did not fly on its own engines) was not fully clarified. Then the carrier-based fighter was not needed at all due to the closure of the aircraft carrier program, and the passing time already required new machines to work in the sky. The Su-47 was actually still a test glider. The final version provided for folding wings for ship-based, continued flight with the loss of 50% of the bearing surfaces of the wings, and automatic return and landing on the airfield when the pilot was injured. The first and only flight of the Buran spacecraft - the system did not just return the aircraft to the coordinates, but calculated the conditions / wind and made decisions about the optimal landing approach "Buran" went to the alternate runway because the automation considered that the side wind was too strong). Perhaps in its final version, the Su-47 would look a little different (this is typical for Su-brand aircraft - the first flying aircraft of the series always differed from production models. The machine was tested and changes were made to it during the running-in process). At one time it was believed that there were actually at least two Su-47s. I watched the Berkut fly in Moscow at the MAKS 2001 and 2005. It was basically a testbed for 5+ generation systems. Sukhoi had it fly with an Su-30 and Su-27 or 34 always ending with an upward spiral and flares. Great show.
As an Ace Combat fan, I have seen aircraft concept both real life or fictional. In my opinion, in addition to its attractive and futuristic design, the function of this type of wing is to improve the ability of the aircraft when making sharp turns when dealing with opponents
Forward sweep tends to kill laminar flow, so you can turn almost without resistance from the air, but you also can't use laminar flow to stabilize. It's great for maneuversbility but makes the flight adjustment computer mandatory.
Forward swept wings greatly reduce the stall speed, giving superior close range dogfighting capabilities. In todays air engagements, dog fights happen at kilometer ranges beyond the reach of each others guns. However, I guess having superior last-second evasive maneuvers would come in handy... for the lucky.
@@jkg6211 pretty much. "normal", back swept wings tend to stall from the wing tips. But with forward swept design you'll keep aileron control even when lift is gone. And shock waves start at the root of the wing instead of the tip. Same with vorticies. In general a really good design that is just super unstable (aka manoeuvrable even when you don't want it) and needs the right materials to be even possible to build.
I like your taste. Blackbird, Raptor. and Berkut. F 117 looks and very futuristic and very cool looking, but it looks like it doesn’t belong here . More like from Star Wars universe.
I was lucky enough to travel to the Moscow Air Show in 1999 and see the SU-47 fly. Highlight of my plane spotting days. Video at 10:01 looks like a clip from the show. I pointed my SLR camera into the sky to take a world class pic of it alongside the 2 Flankers releasing flares, only I'd left my camera in auto focus so it just hunted for focus and my once in a lifetime shot was gone. I'm not over it.
Russia did started forward swept wing thing before Nazis and Junkers. Belyaev DB-LK First flew in 1940 is the first Forward-Swept wing aircraft. While Junkers Ju-287 first flew in 1944 Russian/Soviets first pioneering the creation of forward swept wing.
It was thanks to this aircraft that my most favorite Ace Combat original aircraft, the X-02 Wyvern, was born. The designer takes inspiration from the Su-47 and YF-23 and created the beautiful X-02
Fun fact is S-37's airframe was initially built for ground structural tests. But with low funding they had to equip it with all necessary components and complete it as a flying prototype.
For ground structural tests do not make ready-to-install hull motors. Scale models are used for them, because there is a huge wind tunnel at CAGI. If the hull is assembled with the ability to install engines, this will be a test sample that will rise into the air.
There is many fun factor advantage features to this robust dynamic invert wings, if the end adjacent main wings tip were pitched/fold high or in slop direction, it can grant SR speed lift in micro atmosphere, similar to traditional position wings (fold down) do for SR flights high up.
The instant I first got this plane in Ace Combat, it became my plane. Apparently, it has great turning ability compared to other planes in the game. I wouldn't know really, because it's the only plane I fly if I have a choice. The only plane that comes close in looks (to me) is the SR-71 Blackbird.
I love the su47 for its unique feature...pretty uncommon to be more fair, abd at 2500 kmh It even performs decently, the aircraft is quite an engineering feat and I thank you dearly for making a video on it.
@@scythelord it isn’t exactly unique and honestly but farely uncommon, and it’s performing good as well, and just because it has similar features, doesnt mean it’s a copy paste, that’s like saying the f15 is a total copy of the mig 25, long story short it isn’t, it may be slower but handles better and is more modern, they are not the same….same goes for the berkut, it has its differences
I didn't know any of this. I thought his plane was relegated to my ace combat games. I'm estatic to know it actually flew at Mach speeds and was a real technical work of art! THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO
If you look at Google Maps you can actually see one at 55°34'16.5"N 38°08'45.8"E. It's at Zhukowski Airport. There are also other planes like MiG 25, MiG 23 and some Flankers.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful aircraft with us all. This has to be one of the best "aircraft feature" episodes I have ever seen on youtube. You had so much supporting details, new information and little tidbits of politicalish gems, so well done on the fact finding. I wish you have good luck, good health and much happiness in your future endevours.
I had a book when I was in 2nd or 3rd(83-85) grade that showed a jet the US built with forward swept wings. Additionally, the GIJoe Conquest X30(based on the aforementioned jet) also had forward swept wings(maybe 86-87 or so).
My favourite aircraft, forever. Discovered this beauty in Ace Combat 3 Electrosphere (japanese, the good one with better physics and realisic missile phisics too). The UPEO su-47 was the best in order to dodge those (almost impossible to dodge) missiles just because it's turning ability :) , but it was deadly in stages like the Geofront heheh. Miss the eighties-nineties so much..
Same here, one of my favorite games of all time along with my favorite aircraft of all time. It's just super beautiful and unique, honestly a shame that I never made it to its full potential.
А мне больше нравится ваш Ф-22, он и выглядит получше и полезней будет в бою. А, ну ещё и Б-21 рейдер. Классный бомбардировщик, мне понравился (сказал так, как будто я на нем полётал)
AC 3: Electrosphere was the best out of all 7 in the series. 2 CD, super dramatic non-linear story of 52 missions to choose your fate. Shame it was all Japanese region only (US version more like a demo of the game).
The graphics in the videos are becoming better and better as the videos progress! Great work, seeing these Russian beauties fly as if they were in a movie was exciting.
Thanks not only for the great info, but also for the amazing and positive vibe you project on your videos, this now a day is almost impossible (i think you know what i mean), so i just want to say. Thanks , it makes you be over the rest!
Out of all jets, I love the appearance of the Su-47 the most. It's such an incredibly good looking aircraft. The forward swept wing and the black colour makes it so sexy. I would love to fly it in Project Wingman.
From the moment I saw this plane so long ago, I was in awe of it. I firmly believe that this technology will be revived with the advent of directed energy weapons m
I actually wrote a small paper on this wing design for a college class. There was also an American designer who made and designed some forward swept winged aircraft. I specifically remember he made a design for a glider using the swept design, but by the time they tested them there was no use for them in the military. His name was George Cornelius
I remember reading forward swept wings are good for lift generation, and germany had a bomber in wwii that used the design iirc (but it was not as exagerated as in the su).
You can actually spot it on google maps. It's sitting in a Russian airfield rotting away with a bunch of other prototype planes. 55.57126721421178, 38.14602704481218 are the exact coordinates for the su-47
Sadly it seems like both SU-47 and X-29 suffered from the same problem inherent with the forward swept designs. They were far too complicated for successful mass production. But the SU-47 certainly got closer than the X-29.
That's a nonsense. X-29 was a technological demonstrator based on F-5 fuselage, meant as an aerodynamic testbed. Finally they concluded that although it indeed had some interesting abilities, they could be well enough achieved with classical designs utilising FBW and leasing edge automation, sans the problems with tendency to selfdestruct if pulled too hard.
I would love to see a video made on the P51-FSW proposal. There isn’t too much information about it available, but it’s was a proposed Forward swept wing P51 with mixed propulsion systems (A turbojet at the back and F82 Piston Engine at the front)
So, basically, they attached a turbojet at the back and called it a day? I mean, obviously there were some design differences here and there, but yeah. Reminds me of the Yak 15 ngl, but it didn't use hybrid propulsion though. What I'm interested in seeing is the Supermarine Spiteful, Hawker Sea Fury, the Yak 3 and the He100. The Yak was actually a rather popular aircraft, so it's not exactly exotic, while the sea fury was basically at the peak of piston engine aircrafts potential. The Spiteful meanwhile was supposed to be the Spitfire's replacement, and the He100 was an immensely fast aircraft for the era it was built in, reaching 600+ kmh in level speed, even at lower altitudes. Considering this aircraft was first test flown in 1938, this was pretty much the fastest aircraft of its time. Unfortunately, it never went past prototyping and was never put into production, but a video on the history would be nice. It's blueprints also seem to be destroyed too, so that sucks
@@MrTaxiRob I hadn't thought about that fact, but I'm pretty sure there were many other factors within Nazi Germany that had caused them to reach the situation they had, the effectiveness of its Luftwaffe just being a small part of its overall competency. The plane itself was far from perfect either, despite being incredibly fast for its age, it had one of the most vulnerable designs for its cooling system, which was placed around its entire structure, meaning that even a single 7.62mm would render the plane unfliable after a relatively short amount of time. So, it wasn't a superior aircraft compared to the allies, just another take on an aircraft design that could've potentially been seen in the skies of Nazi Germany and their adversaries, I mean, there was a reason why the Bf 109 was put in production over the He100 after all.
There was also a civil business jet in the 1960's with forward swept wings. The HFB 320 Hansa Jet Business jet @Found and Explained: This could be a topic for you as a future video.
Thank you for making this video, it's brilliant. I absolutely love this plane, it looks so cool, there's a video of it flying low to ground, real slow doing a high alpha manoeuvre, just cruising along at an angle of 75 degrees, doing this crazy manoeuvre that most jets wouldn't have a hope in hell of matching.
Correction from this experienced engineering expert in the field, stress is not the problem per day with forward sweep, it's static structural stability, aka divergence. Stiffness of carbon fiber allows for higher structural divergence speed, preventing the wings from ripping off.
F23 & SU47 will always remain two shinning stars of military aviation that never came into Realisation but were way ahead of their time and weren't liked for being too Unorthodox ❤️ Being the most beautiful Weirdos of the two sides of the world power. I wish they both flew in full glory.
The maneuvering leverage of the reverse wing, was complex as driving a car with rear steering only, so an AI navigation support was needed, it also limited aerodynamics into a lean form body. So to fix that & also reach high SR speed, the wing needed to be a separate stage action from body, that scrolled the craft main wings from mid to rear adjustable. This way the craft could've been also bulk, as used in fictional cartoons model crafts of shows like X-Men or Zillion Red Photon, only now feasible in real life.
@@Aeronaut1975 nope. This is gibberish, there are many gliders that use less dramatically forward swept wings that are used as trainers with simple push rod and cable controls. The controllability and stability of an aircraft are largely determined by the relationship between the center of mass and the center of aerodynamic pressure. The sweep of the wings forward or otherwise has almost nothing to do with it.🤣
There is no "sweep" in the thread. If the wings coild sideed back and forth, midfle to rear, it can then bare higher SR speed, the gibberish is the spelling of you singular names.
The inspiration for the X-Men plane in the cartoon series is the Lockheed SR71, X-Men cartoon series happened way before the berkut got released, X-Men animated series was around '91 while berkut came out '97 So it was an SR71 with forward swept wing and VTOL capabilities And also in the GIJoe cartoons, the plane that serpentor pilots (cobra raven if I'm not mistaken) is also inspired by SR71
At the moment you think you know all the strange aircraft the USSR has produced, Found and Explained uploads a video about an extremely cool prototype plane you’ve never heard of.
This is a pretty well known airplane for anyone with an interest in fighter jets, and especially exotic wing types. But I do agree it's extremely cool, and I'm glad he made a video about it.
@@thuggeegaming659 I know about the american version for years, but never knew there was a sovjet version. It suprised me too that I’ve never heard of such an amazing airplane which has even reached working prototype stage.
Forward wings make for a much more nimble plane, but more unstable. Swept wings make for higher speed. This is well established. Flat wings make for the most stable platform for bombing. I've seen plans for a jet that can reconfigure the wings for whatever situation it's in, but that was a while ago. I think the push now is on for a more generic airframe that can use technical trickery to simulate the various wing configurations. The F-22 has much more "normal" looking wings. It uses thrust vectoring to increase maneuverability, and stability for bombing isn't an issue when using GPS-guided munitions. Max speed is another questionable capability. Sure it sounds awesome to go faster and faster, but really how valuable is that in a war? If you get there fast but run out of fuel, you're really not winning. The F-22 is pretty fast, but it has "supercruise". That means it can break the sound barrier without using the afterburners. All of these super fast speed jets use afterburners to get there. This drains the fuel very fast, and becomes a liability on combat unless you're trying to run from the fight. It's much more useful in a war to have good speed but exceptional efficiency and range. I think there is an ideal range for loiter time. There were some planes of the past that were inefficient so they would get to the battle and only have enough fuel for maybe 15 minutes of fighting before they had to return home. That's not enough. Likewise, if your loiter time was 8 hours, that's too much. You shouldn't have any ammo left after 8 hours of fighting. A more practical concept would be to launch from farther away (extended range) or return home for more weapons. 8 hours is too much loiter time, and a commander would see this as wasteful. So instead you use drones for maximum loiter time. They could stay over target for 24 hours. Why not? And they would already be there if a fleeting target popped up. Fighter jets would then be used mainly for getting to new theaters where drone coverage isn't available. I'm thinking 30-60 minutes is good for loiter time. Get too high or too low and the commander will readjust the operations accordingly.

The first practical forward-swept jet was first built in the mid-1960s; it was the HFB 320 Hansa Jet, Germany's first foray into the business jet market.
Actually seen both aircraft at MAKS, not flying unfortunately! Also saw the SU-57 flying but the star of the show for me was the SU-35. It's manoeuvrability is absolutely insane!
Side note: the mentioned WWII bomber JU-287 had forward swept wings for constructional reasons of the weapons bay. It allowed a bigger bay. Aerodynamic reason were here secondary and unpurposed
The NATO Codename for this fighter is: FIRKIN. I own a miniature of this fighter, and it was released by Maisto, as part of their Tailwinds collection, a series of highly detailed toy aircraft, which I collected, minus four models.
The SU-47 is still my all time favorite aircraft design to date. Like not even the F-22 beats its beauty in my eyes XD this might be seen as unpatriotic to some, but dayum look at that bird O.O lmao remember first discovering her in Ace Combat 4, once I unlocked her, she was the only plane I flew XD absolutely love that aircraft and would love to see a modern rendition of the design, something that you can absolutely tell was inspired by her outline 😁
Forward-swept wing have advantages, but have larger strain on the wing tips that legacy materials, could not withstand in the long run. Also it is fundamentally unstable design so you need computer assisted controls, a very common thing now. So it was ahead of its time, today a forward-swept wing design would likely be a success.
I always found the forward sweep to be intriguing. Id love to know why its not more commonly used? I think i was told once but its been a while and my mind is like a siv. So explain away!
It's very unstable, without constant computer interference it would spin out of control. The upsides are that the instability makes it more maneuverable and the forward wings make it stall less somehow.
Aside from being very unstable, it severely limits the weapon loading capabilities and high speed maneuvering, thrust vectoring allows traditional aircraft to achieve about the same level of maneuverability without these compromises, also with hypersonic missiles and missile/radar technology getting better and better, close encounter between enemy aircraft (dogfights) are even more unlikely, meaning aircraft need to fly faster than ever and stay fast to get into firing position, defend any incoming missile and recommit until downing the enemy, not possible with forward swept wings threatening to break off for turning at high speed, violent turns are not necessary to defend an incoming missile, speed is.
Yeah, if you turned too hard the wings might shear off. Some video games, like Ace Combat 7, tried to solve this with a variable wing that could be trapezoidal for high speed and forward-swept for low-speed maneuverability. However, studies have shown that during transition, the wings would still come off due to stress. So there isn’t a “practical” solution to this issue unless you have very good avionics, and very good stealth to evade missiles and enemy radar.
For a business jet with engine on the fuselage, the forward sweep would allow for even more sweep at the transonic shock near the trailing edge of the clean wing. That is if your plane flies slightly faster than all commercial jets. I think that the citation X can have the shock there. It is still stable , but thirsty.
Maybe in '84 I'd heard of this forward-swept idea, or I just thought it had possibilities. I designed and built a model of an airliner-looking spaceship for some visual effects shots we did for a movie I think was released as SPACE RAGE. I used the forward-swept concept for the ship which is seen briefly in flight in space and coming in for a landing on another planet. I felt this would give this ship a different look than what was going around at the time. The film, as I vaguely recall, was kind of done in a western-in-SF-setting style, and starred an actor who I believe was in a series called THE GREY FOX. Very fuzzy memories of that part of it.
As a one of a kind fifth generation fighter aircraft, the Sukhoi Su-47 is as sleek and awesome like G1 Cyclonus! It has a forward swept wing design capable of hitherto-impossible maneuvers. If Sukhoi had the right funds for mass production, the Su-47 was planned to enter service in 2010 but never happened, in favor of the PAK-FA program the Su-47 was never chosen because it's airframe design is already obsolete. It's a cool fighter jet by the way!!!
If anyone of you has played the popular game "Freedom Fighters", there's a cutscene in the start of the game when the USSR invades the USA, and these sukhois literally make a badass start to the invasion.
It actually could work in you combined it with the movable F-14 and make it closer to looking like a Y-23 wings when traveling fast. But turning the wing into a forward swept wing at hard turns. Ace Combat 7 shows a great design for this in their game.
So cool, very slick look. I'd love to see a Russian version of the mithical Robotech F-14 Vakyrie mech drawn using this very plane as the base. And it would be quite epic to see it animated too.. 🏴☠️
It's called the VF-1 Valkyrie, and it was originally in Macross. Robotech was just a hacked up American localization that cobbled together a bunch of different animes together in an incoherent mess.
@@thuggeegaming659 i know its history well, but I don't hate the western version thst much, I have too many good memories from it, besides, the VF-1 mech clearly looked like an F14.
The forward-sweep wings on these experimental fighters (theirs and ours) made for greatly maneuverable fighters. Unfortunately, that maneuverability came from the unstableness of the planes which required extra computers just to keep the planes under the control of the pilots.

Arcade game

You nailed it perfectly.
The Blackbird, the Raptor, and the Berkut are the 3 most gorgeous jets I've ever laid my eyes on
Don’t forget about the Su27 and Mig29.
What about F 117 Nighthawk? Just pure beauty
I like your taste. Blackbird, Raptor.
and Berkut.
F 117 looks and very futuristic and very cool looking, but it looks like it doesn’t belong here . More like from Star Wars universe.
YF23 is easily the best.
Ok I have to jump in to say you are all correct, - but you forgot another fine looking jet - the F-14 Tomcat !
Su47 and F14 were ahead of their times and most beautiful flying machines ever made

However only one of those actually has an actual combat record.

Fantastic machine for its looks alone
I was lucky enough to travel to the Moscow Air Show in 1999 and see the SU-47 fly. Highlight of my plane spotting days. Video at 10:01 looks like a clip from the show. I pointed my SLR camera into the sky to take a world class pic of it alongside the 2 Flankers releasing flares, only I'd left my camera in auto focus so it just hunted for focus and my once in a lifetime shot was gone. I'm not over it.
I think ur talking abt that one pic on wikipedia with the su-47 in the lead and su-27SKM (top) and a su-30MKK (bottom)
@@loify8381 My pic would have been of the Su-47 flying almost vertical while the Flankers released flares and banked away.
I know it doesn't compensate but you at lest got to go and see the bird in real life

The plane of choice for the Belkan air force's elite Gault Team and the Terror Twins of General Resource's Guardian Mercenaries Mimic Squadron.
It was thanks to this aircraft that my most favorite Ace Combat original aircraft, the X-02 Wyvern, was born. The designer takes inspiration from the Su-47 and YF-23 and created the beautiful X-02

Love that game

My favourite AC original is the ADFX-02 Morgan from AC Zero, which is, of course, also a plane with forward swept wings.

Not quite a unique feature since it debuted on the X-29 in the exact same configuration a decade prior. The SU-47 was a copy paste job.
I love how you pitched Squarespace to the Russian's for their top secret aircraft. That's an absolutely genius way to get them to spill their secrets!

I have waited so long for someone to talk about this fine machine
intro felt like warthunder trailer 10/10 i like it
I had a book when I was in 2nd or 3rd(83-85) grade that showed a jet the US built with forward swept wings.

I like this style of narration its like I'm with the narrator holding a beer and he's explaining some nerdy stuff to me.
I actually wrote a small paper on this wing design for a college class. There was also an American designer who made and designed some forward swept winged aircraft. I specifically remember he made a design for a glider using the swept design, but by the time they tested them there was no use for them in the military. His name was George Cornelius
Your paper probably ended up in the USSR?
I remember reading forward swept wings are good for lift generation, and germany had a bomber in wwii that used the design iirc (but it was not as exagerated as in the su).
What a beautiful machine - second to none!
You should make a video on the mig-1.44, mikoyan-gurevitch's response to the f-22.

@@marekstanek112 I didn't know that.
Thanks for telling me.
The idea of swept forward wings was also used in the 1964/5 TV series Thunderbirds look at the design of Thunderbird 2

It is personally my favorite airplane and it’s a shame it never got the popularity it deserves!
The Golden Eagle... It is one of my favorite fighter aircraft. Its forward-swept wings is gorgeous!
@@foxgaming76yt24 "unfortunately?" You mean you wish Nazi Germany had a better plane than the Allies?
There has also been a study for an F-16FSW.
Coincidentally, YT-channel 'Military News' recently did a video on that aircraft.
There was also a civil business jet in the 1960's with forward swept wings.

Correction from this experienced engineering expert in the field, stress is not the problem per day with forward sweep, it's static structural stability, aka divergence. Stiffness of carbon fiber allows for higher structural divergence speed, preventing the wings from ripping off.
F23 & SU47 will always remain two shinning stars of military aviation that never came into Realisation but were way ahead of their time and weren't liked for being too Unorthodox ❤️
Being the most beautiful Weirdos of the two sides of the world power. I wish they both flew in full glory.
And now the SU-47 is left to Rot at a Russian airfield. It deserves better...
I remember my toy Su 47 from when i was a kid, now i miss it
The maneuvering leverage of the reverse wing, was complex as driving a car with rear steering only, so an AI navigation support was needed, it also limited aerodynamics into a lean form body.
Can anyone translate this into English, please?
@@Aeronaut1975 nope. This is gibberish, there are many gliders that use less dramatically forward swept wings that are used as trainers with simple push rod and cable controls. The controllability and stability of an aircraft are largely determined by the relationship between the center of mass and the center of aerodynamic pressure. The sweep of the wings forward or otherwise has almost nothing to do with it.🤣
There is no "sweep" in the thread. If the wings coild sideed back and forth, midfle to rear, it can then bare higher SR speed, the gibberish is the spelling of you singular names.

The inspiration for the X-Men plane in the cartoon series is the Lockheed SR71, X-Men cartoon series happened way before the berkut got released, X-Men animated series was around '91 while berkut came out '97

And also in the GIJoe cartoons, the plane that serpentor pilots (cobra raven if I'm not mistaken) is also inspired by SR71

At least we can still fly this beauty in Ace Combat and countless other flying sim games.
That was the best segue into a sponsor I've ever heard. The underlying statement of the russian millitary using square space is hilarious!

One of my favorite aircraft in Ace Combat.
Side note: the mentioned WWII bomber JU-287 had forward swept wings for constructional reasons of the weapons bay. It allowed a bigger bay. Aerodynamic reason were here secondary and unpurposed
Joe 90 flew something like this back in the 60s.
It is still stable , but thirsty.
maneuverability is dumb and useless. trash priorities.
My friend and I was just talking about this plane 3 hours ago
Hell yeah I want this video. I am a fan of your videos from india 🇮🇳 😌😌😌
It's a cool fighter jet by the way!!!
remember seeing something like this in the anime Macross plus. They turned into deadly mechs too lol.
Ace Combat 4 fanbois where are you at! Childhood strikes!
Using ace combat as an example is not rlly a good idea
Nice content am always anxious to see what comes next
@@nicksothep8472 The VF-1 is cross between an F-14 and an F-15. It's essentially the body of an F-15 with the swing wings of an F-14.
The Grumman X-29 was the inspiration for Kawamori to create the YF-19 Omega One.
The forward-sweep wings on these experimental fighters (theirs and ours) made for greatly maneuverable fighters. Unfortunately, that maneuverability came from the unstableness of the planes which required extra computers just to keep the planes under the control of the pilots.
Also a huge factor was the stress on the wing structure that made US cancel the project. At that time there was no way to make that wing last.
Sukhoy's planes allways looked gorgeous. Though, it was Tupolev who said "Beatiful planes fly better".
Aerodynamics, amirite fellas? XD
