Great video im getting my cage soon its the pet planet doubble cage and its just like the doubble cn and im so excited !!! Your new babbies are adorable 😍
Great video! I like how you’re not throwing direct hate at the company, unlike many reviews like this go. I have a question, a pet RUclipsr said that you should never let your rat’s bowl get empty, you should just top the food off. Is this true/do you recommend it? Thanks in advance!
keeping the bowl full at all times is not even always possible. Some rats will empty the bowl and stash the food as soon as you put it in there. In the case of my rats, they ate until they were full, then stashed the rest. However, they NEVER seemed to eat the food they stashed, so it just went to waste. (They seemed to forget about it completely, so even if I didn't refill the bowl, the stashed food would remain untouched.) In the end, I just gave them as much food as they would eat, then took the rest away until the next meal time. Of course, if your rats don't do this, you can keep food available for them at all times. Stashing food seems to be more common among females anyway (though there are exceptions).
I personally feed my rats once a day, half fresh half dry food. They stash their food and save it and i always hear them eating all the way until i feed them the next day. Just make sure you give them enough, you can over feed them because they do know when to stop eating but this is just what i do
Great and informative! I highly recommend the Bass pans for folks who can afford them - they last forever, are so easy to clean and there is no worry that they will get chewed up. I splurged for the 3” stainless Bass pans all around on my DCN and have nothing but positive things to say about them. Still if you use “fluffy” paper pulp bedding (I use Teklad lab bedding which is very lightweight), rats can still shove bedding over the tops of even the tallest pans when they are feeling especially frisky. My boys will tunnel into their bedding and fling it into the air, and it does end up outside the cage! Crazy, messy baby boy rats! Gotta love ‘em❤️
Jennifer Morand Hi Jennifer. Unfortunately that’s a weird thing about Bass Supply - they charge shipping according to the amount spent rather than the weight of the item. On the four pans I got, shipping alone was $44.50! I emailed them regarding the shipping costs and they responded that (and I quote) “UPS figures shipping cost based on dimensional weight vs just standard weight. UPS shipping discounts are based on volume and we are currently still a very small company. Our UPS rate for these pans shipped in a box that is 38x25x8 and weighs approximately 30lbs is $47.14. In this case it is slightly over the shipping being charged for the pans. The dimensional weight makes it tough on larger packages that do not weigh much. “ So shipping can add a lot to the cost... that said, I am still happy with the pans!
Laura B Thank you so much! I just wanted to make sure I wasn't getting taken advantage of with the shipping. It will be a bit before I can afford one anyway. I got the plastic cement tub that some people recommend. I haven't put it in yet because I have to trim it. These pans just seem like a better option. I never thought I could fall in love with two rats but my daughters convinced me to get them (for them) and now I'm hooked.
Jennifer Morand The plastic pans work great, and price-wise they are a total bargain. Bass pans are a luxury, but pretty pricy for what they are - and the shipping makes the cost ridiculous. Glad to hear you love the rats, they are such sweet creatures, so funny and smart, and it is wonderful to think that kids are converting their parents into rat advocates! Enjoy your rats - um, I mean your kids’ rats. 😉
Laura B I'm glad to hear that. I'll stick with the plastic tub for now then. I started trying to cut it but it makes me nervous. Maybe I'll try to find someone to do it for me.
Great video, Esther! I am glad you put this out there. A lot of people need to know how terrible these things are and that they are absolutely *not* worth the money! I hope you don't get offended when I say this, because I love your channel and I consider you a role model as a rat parent, but I wanted to offer one small correction (you don't have to re-do the whole video, just add an annotation) coroplast is the corrugated plastic alternative you are speaking of; chloroplast is that part of a plant's anatomy that contains chlorophyll and aids in photosynthesis. ;) That's my tiny critique. Much love to you and your girls!
Shadow how many days sould you spend with rats before training them? What can I use for a cardboard playpen if I have no big boxes? If I want a cardboard playpen but my room is way to small, what sould I do?
If you are willing to spend the money, you could buy a plastic dog playpen like this one: www.amazon.com/Tespo-Playpen-Portable-Plastic-Transparent/dp/B06XTG94TH/ref=sr_1_14_sspa?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1530286326&sr=1-14-spons&keywords=puppy+playpen&psc=1 If space is an issue, you might want to consider using your bed as a playpen. (Many rats won't jump off a bed unless you encourage them to do so.) If you're worried about them peeing on it (though mine never did pee on my bed, even though they spent plenty of time on there), you could cover it with a designated rat sheet first. Alternatively, why not just take them to a different room? If they're in the playpen anyway, I don't see why it would matter. You can start trying to train them as soon as they start trusting you. But that will vary depending on where you got them, as well as their individual personalities.
The coroplast one? For that you just buy coroplast and duct tape it together - I made one myself but unfortunately my rats decided to chew the coroplast so I eventually just ordered metal deep pans (which is what I currently use).
Hi! I want to get my scatter guard or bass pan from your link so you get credit.... But it can't get it to work? Updated one available? Please advise thanks 🐀🐀
Thank you - the bass pans are by a different company though that I'm not sponsored by, but I highly recommend them just from experience. You can find those here: www.bassequipment.com/SCResult/Critter-Nation-Replacement-Pans-245 If you want to check out the scatter guards those are on amazon, but other than in specific circumstances I wouldn't recommend them: amzn.to/2SbxtKn
I don't understand why they didn't just make a pan like they already had but with higher walls...
exactly
Great video im getting my cage soon its the pet planet doubble cage and its just like the doubble cn and im so excited !!! Your new babbies are adorable 😍
I had these and used them once, they are so hard to work with, I agree with you completely.

When I bought my critter nation the seller gave me a cage cover and these and I was so confused on what the slanted coat rack was
Ha! Maybe I should get them for my fleece. Who knew. And then they would be less able to push poo out the side
I love your trick videos. thank you for being so inspiring and amazing!

Laura B Was the shipping expensive for one pan?

These came with my cage and I haven't used them
I use cardboard and pipe cleaners aka chenille stems. Gives the rats something to chew and cheap to get.
How to make the other pan no one show u

Ok thanks I’m go get the pan to
