The last time the Steelers won a playoff game Obama was president, TikTok didn’t exist, and people still rented DVDs from Redbox. Truly a different era.
Fields is the best option. Everyone was saying the same things about Lamar in year 4 as Fields. Why pay $30-40 million on a QB when your offense is a dumpster fire? Build the offense up with elite talent. If Fields isn’t the answer your offense is setup to bring in that high dollar QB.
This is just the ideal hypothetical what a ton of what ifs, but if it's purely a matter of getting offensive talent in the door to raise the team's ceiling. Sign Higgins as the WR draft class is not good. Pray Jeanty falls in the first round. Then you have a talented weapons group at the least. Not necessarily good, but very talented. Hope Broderick takes a step forward and Fautanu can contribute his de facto rookie year. Take a stab at getting a failed, highly drafted OT and have him compete for RG (e.g. Mekhi Becton). I have no idea what the solution is at qb (not Wilson), but I look at the lions and eagles and see a not very talented qb have elite play due to the overwhelming quality of the roster around them. This is getting a shot at having an elite offense. This changes the organizational philosophy of saying we're going to take a shot as opposed to settle for the floor.
What’s the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different outcome. That’s where I feel like we are at. I don’t want Russ back, but I’d be okay with Fields because I’d like to see what he can bring to us with an improvement at OL. And for gods sake, give us something more than Van Jefferson at WR2. I’m not surprised by what we saw, but I am definitely disappointed. Let’s make some changes and try to build a team that can win in January because it’s getting hard being stuck in purgatory
Ben Skowronek is a nice piece that every NFL team can use. Underrated at WR too. As far as the QB, the options are an expensive old guy who isn't the answer/had the backup QB bump through 4-5 weeks & was below average at best to finish the season - or you continue to add offensive talent with a young cheap guy who also probably isn't the answer. Those are the two options, why not improve the rest of your roster rather than give half the cap to a guy who led them to 2 first downs in the first half of a playoff game? Last SB window: they had the team set before drafting their franchise QB.
Two things are abundantly clear. Wilson is not gonna get you to the promise land. Steelers need to do whatever it takes to get a star receiver opposite Pickens, Higgins most preferably.
I've been a Steeler fan since 72 and have witnessed the great journey like many of you. However, this is the first time I've ever seen a Steeler team end their season so listlessly! I'm curious to find out how many minutes the offense was on the field versus the defense for the entire season because the way the defense looked last night they looked like they had played twice as many minutes and were worn out by the second quarter. There's little point in analyzing another playoff loss and start to observe the many needs this team has. The immediate need is for an ass-kicking Offensive Line Coach. Mike Munchak set the bar years back and since he's left the Steelers offensive line has suffered for it. They've spent high capital picks the past two drafts on the O-Line and that unit has regressed and been in shambles going back to the last two seasons for Ben. Coaching and added depth is what's needed there. The Defensive Line needs some serious help. There's no pass rush and little run prevent pressure. This is another unit that has little depth and needs stability there. QB❓Russ needs to take a step back and become the Charlie Batch like number 2 QB the Steelers need him to be. He needs to be as supportive as Fields was towards him. Get a QB coach that can help further Fields development. Bring Najie back short term for no more than 2 years and see what he can do with an O-Line that will improve. Coach T isn't going anywhere, not after a 10 win overachievement. If anything the Defensive Coordinate Teryl Austin is OTD (out the door) for putting a tired defensive unit on the field the past 3 games. On DB: This is my second season checking out your channel and I've always appreciated your analysis. If I were to recommend anything it would be for you to try green screening your background to create an interesting look vs a plain wall. Thank you for sharing your insightful opinion, keep up the good work‼️🏈✌🏽😎
It's totally inexcusable to have a defence paid this highly and get shredded by any good team. Good thing I guess is if this team lets all the dead weight, we have a ton of cap space to improve. I get how Tomlin will keep his job, but Austin should be gone.
100% o-line coach gotta go! I would say Austin as well but this is Tomlin's defense and until he turns it over to a professional, it's just going to stay the same. Great breakdown young man!
Not a Tomlin hater but nothing is really going to change for the better until Rooney makes a move and cleans house top to bottom. It will be bleak during a proper rebuild but a new philosophy and leadership is needed. We need a HC who isn’t afraid of having top football minds as coordinators and coaches because whatever is currently in the bldg isn’t getting the job done. At least we’ll have real hope again.
@@waynemccuen8213because there is a swathe of the fan base who are racist (whether they realise it or not) or simply calling for him to be fired no matter what happens. Firing the HC isn’t always the best way forward but I think it’s time to move on now.
@@theresa6837 Ummmmm, I personally never experienced anyone saying Tomlin should be fired because of his race! EVER. When the topic comes up it is only because of his record! Are you on some kind of woke bandwagon or do you have some preconceived agenda? I actually know a fellow who is deeply racist and he never said Tomlin should be fired because of race. His well informed and humble opinion was Tomlin sucks as a coach. We see the full fruits of that today as we look at the drubbing that Tomlin orchestrated in the presence of the Ravens......it was beyond pathetic. The downhill slide of coach Mike Tomlin has been higlighted in this 1 game. He is done. Go on Tomlin, git.
Great point, I've been saying this for years. The WR coach & OL coach were not good this year & you saw the clear lack of detail. Same with the secondary. Their best assistant is Danny Smith & it's not even close ffs
It’s kind of hard to comprehend how this team fell off a cliff after reaching 10-3, especially the defense. And the game plan last night to keep crashing in the RB and letting Lamar run wild was really poor. Had they even switched that up they could have probably caused a fumble just off surprise because they hadn’t touched him once… We also went from scoring 44 points and 30 points a game to ineptitude… I do agree we need to get that next QB and probably have to pay the penalty to get one…
They took no chances, played super safe. Play call sucked on both sides of field, they didn’t shut down Lamar or Henry which was the key to win. Obviously frustrating. We need more talent on offense, players and coordinators. Half the team needs to be revamped. 😢
Honestly I think we need to clean house with the coaching staff because the message has become stagnant and for the sake of the development of our younger players… we have to try to bring out there potential… firing Tomlin would be great emotionally but it wouldn’t solve the problem because there’s no good options available… we need to bring in more experienced younger coaches because we need to adapt to the modern era.. our identity can still be defense but we need a more CONSISTENT and competent offense.. we are wasting Watt and Hayward time and that’s a disservice to them
I had this game on as background noise because I had no real faith in the team to win this and sadly I was right. Don't get me wrong, they did much better this season than alot of media predicted, but when will we get to that next level? Sometimes things have to get worse before they can get better. I think this is a prime example.
I wonder how it feels for the other team when they get matched up with the Steelers in the first round. They probably get excited as hell realizing they’re getting a free playoff win.
The week before everyone lashed out at Tomlin for going for it on his side of the field. Tomlin can be criticized but not on that. They need to get rid of half the d line. They need corner and nickel. They need to get rid of highsmith not because he is not good they have too much money there they need to invest in back in and line. They need two receivers in free agency be really aggressive there and one d tackle. I would trade Pickens. I drop Russ keep Fields. I draft a good back second or third round. They need a guard and have to hope the tackles you draft work next year but need better back up. They loose like this because they don’t have enough talent and the money they spent on d is not in right spots too much in backers. If they could get better qb they would how are they going to get one this year they need a fields to work out next year or realistically they will have at least one more year of trying to get qb none out there this year. Everyone wants to rebuild you are until you get qb and you don’t just grab one because you want one. But they can be better if they make these changes and work really hard with fields this year.

Also, what are the chances the Steelers give James Daniels another contract after we've seen the liability the right side of the line has been this season?
Watt(s), Parsons, Bosa(s) Garrett’s etc. sack specialists do not win super bowls they are icing. NFL is won and lost with offensive innovation and scheming and we and qb play. Steelers need to wake up.
This team is such a bummer. I would blow it up, eat some sh!t for a season or two, and get a rebuild going. Would rather that than live in this Groundhog's Day reality.
I love my Steelers. I only watch the Steelers, but they're making it almost impossible to watch games with any type of positivity. I literally stopped watching full games because of their poor play. I 100% agree that it's time to move on from the core players, and truly the coach. If it's his touch on both offense and defense that has allowed this ineffectual play to continue, it won't change if he's back.
The Steelers have become prisoners of their own tradition. They believe so deeply in "their way" that the idea of change is synonymous with "tanking" or "giving up". They don't mean the same thing. I hope it finally sinks in this offseason.
It’s time to make major changes. They need to find a franchise QB asap. They have the highest paid defense in NFL and just gave up 300 yds rushing in a playoff game. The need to trade Watt and Fitzpatrick and get as many good draft picks as possible and try to build offensive side of the ball. The NFL has changed to an offensive league, but Tomlin won’t change. If they don’t make change it will be rinse and repeat next year. Tomlin made this roster heavily weighted to defense and they are not that good. He messed up and can’t undo it to have a better offensive roster and won’t change his old philosophies. He can’t compete in playoffs with such a crappy offense. If Art Rooney JR really wanted to win Super Bowls, last night would be unacceptable, but he doesn’t really care. He cares more about bragging of his long tenured coaches and just being competitive. Thanks for letting me vent. DB I definitely agree with what you are saying!
What to do going forward. ...I'd say, continue the course going into next season. Add what we need to add, and don't mess with the talent. I like the Wilson/Fields combo. Wouldn't change much on talent. just continue to add. Now Coaching. That is another story. DC needs to be fired, IMMEDIATELY. 140 points over the last 5 games is UNACCEPTABLE. Especially with our talent. Flores got way more out of them. He leaves and its a disaster. Find another DC. No Brainer. Second, Tomlin's feet need to be held to the fire. This ending was also UNACCEPTABLE. They literally fell apart. Tomlin needs to know this can NEVER happen again. Seriously. His job needs to be on the line if he repeats. No excuse for this. Not saying we should have won all 5 games, but geez. They should have been way closer. On OC. I feel Smith is being held back. He's clearly better than this. Just look at his record in Tennessee. Tomlin maybe needs to be more hands off on offense. That's my 2 cents worth ...:)
Tj watt is above average but great is becoming a hard word to say when he doesn't see the other side of the field once..even Alex Highsmith has came to the left and made some plays. Why can't TJ go to the right..go to the DE spot at times and throw an extre Linebacker out there in the OLB spot
Here is the offseason Plan (IMO) Sign Justin Fields and make him starter- why? he is the younger QB n the best QB for situational football (3rd Dn/RZ) Sign a true Route runner at WR- why? Cuz we are at our best when we have a guy who on 3rd n 5 is always open (D. Johnson, AB) Sign a Pure Cover Corner (or 2)- why? Cuz when its a passing situation im sick of seeing 3-Buzz cuz our corners except JPJ cant play man Sign a veteran Run Stopping 3 Tech- Why? Cuz outside of Heyward and Benton idont see anyone else inside making consistent run penetration Let Najee go n draft an RB.. preferably the Iowa RB- why? Cuz idont think he has the speed to become more than a big power back n we meed more versatile players to be less predictable These are the big ones for me
Front office and coaching staff are stubborn and cowards, don't want to make any changes that might risk a 'winning season' Not really giving us lifetime fans anything to watch or buy tickets for..
The edge rushers are so predictable that any non-moron can and do exploit that "strategy" easily. And no one has improved under Pat Meyer. Steelers... ya bore me.
This teams first round pick was najee harris. Mike T trying to prove himself right still uses najee as the focal point of the offense to build around. This team also doesn't look like they work out at all, they look weak, slow and lazy. Hate to say it but Mike T has no discipline in the room. He's a friend not a leader
Najee was a better pick than KP8. A franchise missing on a 1st rnd QB is way worst than a 1st rnd RB that has 1k seasons every year and avg 1 fumble per season and always available. Najee is not great but he did his job, and no other back has done what I mentioned in the last 2 decades.
Trade watt and minkah, and tomlin. Stock up on firsts and second round picks. not winning with them and it's a disservice wasting them here....get multiple firsts....resign fields, go get Archie manning in 2026.
I find it interesting that you're biggest problem on the first drive was the 3rd and 13 for the TD. They started that drive on the 5 yard line against the highest paid defense in the NFL. They went through the defense like it was a Division 3 school. Come on!
We can be mad and all that stuff. Still a successful season and good team. Multiple things can be true at once. The franchise truly needs to change. We’re still too stuck in the past in many areas. As far as FAs…being 100% honest….i don’t see much reason to bring any of them back. Still luv my squad!

Lamar's first four years and Fields' first four years couldn't have been more different. Whatever the media narrative was around either means nothing
Lamar had a 113 passer rating, 36 TDs and a QBR of 83 in year 2. He was instantly better than Fields.

Tj watt is above average but great is becoming a hard word to say when he doesn't see the other side of the field once..even Alex Highsmith has came to the left and made some plays. Why can't TJ go to the right..go to the DE spot at times and throw an extre Linebacker out there in the OLB spot
tj no tackles at all where did he go
Here is the offseason Plan (IMO)
Sign Justin Fields and make him starter- why? he is the younger QB n the best QB for situational football (3rd Dn/RZ)
Sign a true Route runner at WR- why? Cuz we are at our best when we have a guy who on 3rd n 5 is always open (D. Johnson, AB)
Sign a Pure Cover Corner (or 2)- why? Cuz when its a passing situation im sick of seeing 3-Buzz cuz our corners except JPJ cant play man
Sign a veteran Run Stopping 3 Tech- Why? Cuz outside of Heyward and Benton idont see anyone else inside making consistent run penetration
Let Najee go n draft an RB.. preferably the Iowa RB- why? Cuz idont think he has the speed to become more than a big power back n we meed more versatile players to be less predictable
These are the big ones for me
The steelers dont have the roster to beat baltimore. This outcome should not be surprising.
Preach
Tomlin simply has to go. It’s literal insanity to keep doing the same thing every year and expecting to make a playoff run.
We are limited
Front office and coaching staff are stubborn and cowards, don't want to make any changes that might risk a 'winning season' Not really giving us lifetime fans anything to watch or buy tickets for..
We need to trade highsmith
Trade Tomlin fire all of the coaches but Danny hire Ben Johnson
Tomlin has a no trade clause
Tomlin has to be fired. Or Rooney Mandates a True OC Hire that operates Autonomously. Which we All know Tomlin wouldnt agree to
The edge rushers are so predictable that any non-moron can and do exploit that "strategy" easily.
I do agree that building around a back is a bad idea in this day and age of football
It's ok to tell Fraudlin thanks for a long mediocre run.. and move on.
Rooney is a joke keeping this HC
Trade watt and minkah, and tomlin. Stock up on firsts and second round picks. not winning with them and it's a disservice wasting them here....get multiple firsts....resign fields, go get Archie manning in 2026.
Just disappointed man
I find it interesting that you're biggest problem on the first drive was the 3rd and 13 for the TD.
We are not a good team lmao.
If Chicago offers a lot you have to consider trade but it have to be something like two ones. The scheme of the d is not problem and it personnel. Stop rolling out this d line and secondary. Don’t go into the season knowing you need receivers.
