  • I was selected as the 20th Tactical Fighter Wing Airman of the Year in 1988 and received an incentive flight on an F-111. This video has shots of my pre-briefing, flight, and the firefighters I worked with at the time.

Congrats on Airman of the Year! What an awesome accomplishment and the flight must have been amazing. I was in the FD there '84-'86. The video inside the station sure brings back memories. I only have still pics from then, I don't even remember if anyone had a VHS camera or mini-cam then. Seeing Chief Doughty and Msgt Nelson got me a little emotional. Great days! So glad we have this platform to share these old memories.

My dad actually served with these people. It's really cool to see what he did in the air force.

I would just like to thank you guys, for putting on a fab airshow at Upper Heyford in the 80's. The F-111's were just great!

I agree, we had an air show in 91 ish that was fantastic and working it from the flightline was even better.
Watched a harrier bow to the control tower that day, first time I'd ever seen that happen.

I wish I still had my Video of my incentive flight. So jealous :) I won Airman of the year for 20th FW in 91 and got an amazing ride. It was the highlight of my 20 year career. I saw and did a lot of cool stuff in that 20 years :) Wouldn't trade my Air Force career for anything, but I wish I had taken more pictures, and videos along the way.

How awesome is this! I also got an incentive ride in 92 while stationed there with POL! Thanks for putting up this video!
It's weird to see that base today with the gazillion cars and businesses.
Haven't been back since PCSing in late 92.

Served as a weather observer 1975-1977. Lived off base in a coverted stable with my wife (on an airman's pay) in Middlebarton. Drove a mini (had to crank start that thing a few times) and a morris minor (loved that car).

Yes it is, Glyn was my shift officer for the three years I was stationed there. I understand he still lives in that area.

@@petes8087 : I was at UH in the FP field, and remember him when I was an e-1 and he was a SrA. He was cool....like "Cool Hand Luke"....and I thought he was "part British", as I understood he was from the area. Maybe he was a dependent? Anyway, he knew his sh*t for sure.....no finer FP guy around. He'd butt heads with anyone.....for sure! He and my first line supervisor, SrA. Marc Farias (Mark) were both top notch troops. Other guys I recall: Chief McHenry, Msgt. Gilmore, SSgt. Piper, SSgt. Patton.
