How to make Beautiful Art from Cheap Wire - Wire Art Timelapse

- I made a Family Portrait Wire Art as a gift for a good friend of mine. It was a challenge to get these faces correct and recognizable but I’m very happy with the result.
No real explanation needed, just a lot of hours bending 1.6 mm welding wire.
This short video shows the timelapse and the result, hope you like it and find some inspiration to try it yourself.

Gday Bart, I’ve never seen wire art before, the end result is beautiful, thanks for sharing mate, cheers
Thanks Matty!
Bart, I am always impressed with your mastery in the shop. I knew you had skills, and I knew you had design chops, but what a pair of meaty clackers! It takes quite a brave man to make a portrait of his wife. I would not dare. She would certainly find a way to interpret one bend as highlighting what she thinks of as unattractive. It's almost like the trolley problem, philosophically unsolvable. I joke, but you have a lovely family and this is a really lovely way to remember this part of life. So much more evocative than a photograph.
Thanks! Btw, It's a family portrait of my friend and his wife. But same idea, its hard to get the faces correct. But a bit of wire bending 'photoshop' is possible ;-)
Incredible work Bart! 😱
Thank man. And keep up the good work in the grinder restoration. It's starting to look very good!
Great attention to detail!!
That's a great idea and a nice result! I've spent a year studying Nederlands on Duolingo (ongeveer tweeduizend woorden nu) and just spent a week in/around Haarlem, my first visit to the country. I intend to come back for a month, and am thinking about moving to the country some day. I'm a retired mechanical engineer from San Diego, CA and also a machining hobbyist, among other interests. I really like the biking culture and the infrastructure engineering (rail, water control, agriculture, etc). Very impressive country. I intend to see Groningen and a couple other areas next trip, perhaps this fall.
Hi Jeff, Thats nice to hear. Thanks. I live near Groningen.
Great eye!!!
Wholesome!
Hi Bart, hope you are keeping well. Wire bending taken to high art, and a really nice family heirloom as well. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and keep up the excellent work.
Thank you Pedro!
Nice Bart!
Dank je
How did you center that on the Okuma LS? ha!
Nice touch, Bart!
Magnetic chuck? ;-) Thanks
That turned out really well. How long did it take?
Thanks. around 2 hours to get the lines correct in paper. 6 hours bending. Another 3 hours for the wooden frame.
