- As of April 2024, there are concerns of a TikTok ban in the USA as President Joe Biden signed the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act - which makes Bytedance, the parent company of TikTok, face an ultimatum: sell TikTok to an American company within 12 months or face a TikTok ban in the USA. In this video I look into this TikTok news and share my thoughts as a Canadian creator on how TikTok got banned. I also talk about how this will impact creators and just my thoughts on why this matters - why it is bad for a social media platform to get banned, especially one this big. In the comments, they say, "They don't care," but in fact, we do care, we have to know that tiktok creators are gonna move into other platforms like RUclips which some already did but this us scary considering shorts is gonna be filled with re-uploads of TikTok or cringeworthy content and the community won't like it happening so yeah I do care imo.

TikTok would probably just be merged into YT Shorts, and it’ll remain on YT, or TikTok would remain a separate app, but take on the YT Shorts name instead.
I actually wouldn't even mind if google bought tiktok and turned in into YT shorts.
They'd probably merge it and make it "RUclips TikTok" kind of like RUclips Music, where it'd be its own app also accessible through main RUclips with limited feature.
Taking on the RUclips Shorts name or merging into RUclips shorts would make zero actual sense. Tiktok already has a fairly strong and very recognisable brand identity. The best thing to do would just be to coast off of that.

I actually feel like I contributed something, although not much. I contacted my state senitor about how tiktok should be banned. I really only did it for boy scouts, vut it's still something. The concern is less about data collection and more about manipulating the algorithm to sow dissent and conflict in American youth. TikTok is a very easy way for China to manipulate what Americans believe in since many people use it to get their news and current events.
