@@ToxicBananaFish i scrapped it and made a new VM running vista (the only windows i ever paid retail for anyway). i found some long way around to fixing windows update, eventually getting to the root certificates update which fixed browsers for a little while (still only ie9 and chrome 49). not sure if there's a similar procedure for xp, but probably? since finishing all updates, neither browser generally goes past the first page of bing / google results, and when they do, they do a crap job of rendering the pages, but old, updated browsers that work were just a nice-to-have for this project, not a must-have. i got my must-have program working again (broken but hackable since windows 7, just straight up broken since windows 11), so i'm happy enough w/ it
Sounds like a security breach! Why would websites want to have an exact time of the persons computer that visits the site? This is the stupidest excuse I have heard for tech to create security breaches and log of data. How do I make sure my website does NOT track a persons computer clock status?

You can’t sync the time unless you’re connected to WiFi. Kind of a catch 22
no good on a VM running XP and chrome 49, have to just set the year to 2016. i blame XP
