  • In this episode we refurbish the front suspension, and use the old Wagon Spring and Ball Joint Spacer trick to lift the front ride height using the factory upper and lower control arms! I also unbox and mount my brand new Rocket Fuel front wheels! Be sure to like and subscribe if you dig these videos!

Thanks for sharing ...I'm gonna do the same thing on my 55 gasser...I agree gassers aren't all strait axle

Like the low budget build . I have a speedway axle after buying steering box steering joints I am at about $ 1,800 and it will never drive as good as a stock front end. Your build is fine.

Sharp rod ! I agree its all about having fun and running your car . Not spending as much as you can on it . NO need in spending when you don't really need to . Im sure the guys in the 60s didn't . Keep the updates coming

You are completely correct. I had a 55 2dr sedan gasser with wagon frt springs and ball joint extensions. This was in the 70's.

You are correct, not all gassers back in the day had strait axles.
But it was done for weight savings in the frame and suspension to be competitive.
Good luck with your project it's been entertaining watching.

Beautiful job...I think that the design with the holes and the look from the spacers it's really just as cool as a straight axle, plus it will handle good to.

Love what your doing. Build it the way you want to and what your budget will handle. Thats how it was done back in the '60's. Cant wait to see it's progress

Back in late 60's we used hi- rise spindles to raised front end.

    • @yalzy1414
      @yalzy1414 3 года назад

Does Anyone make dropped spindles? In the San Francisco area there was a guy by the name of Al in Brisbane, south of the.city who made spindles to raise the front end 6". People generally don't want to do it, but to my knowledge none of his failed. Some guys would flip the spring perches in the rear end to get High all the way around. I was at car show a couple of years ago and there was a guy who still had them on after 40 years.

I sure hope ball joint spacers are better than they used to be. They would break and you would have to drive home in reverse unless you could get it towed.

Good job, like you said that's how people did it back in the day. I built a 69 AMC rambler straight axle 454 TH400 ford 9" and used the front end out of a 89 Cherokee with the stock disk brakes and power steering so you can drive it and enjoy it without the death wobble and bad brakes on a lot of other cars I've seen converted to straight axles. Super cheap all stock parts so if it breaks on the road you can fix it and drive home, and it tracks straight as an arrow

Looking good!! You are 100% correct about it NOT needing a straight axle to be "gasser". There were actually far more cars back in the day running in the Gas Classes with A arm suspensions than straight axles. That is a FACT. The axle cars that ran in A and B gas in particular got most of the press, but for every axle car there were 20 A-arm cars running in C/G, D/G and so on, and not even all the top A/G and B/G were axle cars.

Nice to see someone build a gasser and put a proper sized front tires on it. They ran like 28in diameter tires in the late 60s. Nowadays everyone runs like a 25inch diameter and that's way too small and goofy as hell looking. Keep up the good work. I'm building a Pro stock barracuda. Love the late 60s to late 70s street machines amd gassers

Sweet nice gasser project. I’m working on a 62 c10 step side. Wish I could make it a true gasser but can’t because I’m using an 8.1 496 and a 4L80E. It be a nice street rod though. But I’m still keeping the old school look.

Lots of gassers used your build style on their front ends, in fact most gassers didn't run straight axles, mainly the top competitors did, but it wasn't the norm. At least not in California. And in the '60's and up to the late eighties we attended and completed at most of our states drag strips.

The very first gassers were independent, then the I beam truck axles were incorporated at some point by someone. Nobody seems to know exactly who started it but people have their assumptions. Each story cancels someone else out. Nonetheless gassers were being built and raced almost a decade before popularity. At first they were subtlety lifted in front, As time went on they got more lifted and wild with wheelbase mods. That’s it in a nutshell. I’m building a early early gasser with a 57 Chevy truck axle and have done far too much research into pre 56-7 gasser ( not the car years) builds it’s actually really hard to find information on. Those guys who built and raced gasser class pre 57 aren’t online posting information let alone on RUclips. Good luck with your build man!!
