Alex saying Gnosticism is Christian is very telling of how lost he is.
But the natural [unbelieving] man does not accept the things [the teachings and revelations] of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness [absurd and illogical] to him; and he is incapable of understanding them, because they are spiritually discerned and appreciated, [and he is unqualified to judge spiritual matters].

This is why some people say Paul invented Christianity. Paul made himself an authority and threw away the true "gnostic" philosophy, which is similar to Jnana today (Jnana / Gnosis are from the same root word). Dig deep and you will find the early Gnostics were influenced by Indian thought. That strain of thought is still alive today in Advaita Vedanta and elsewhere. No theology required, just pure knowledge. So that the Gnostic texts don't talk about the resurrection at all is extremely important, when contrasted with Paul's statement that "if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith" (1 Corinthians 15:14-17).

    • @isavax3

@mattb4249 it was Christian. a gnostic almost became one of the first few popes. He almost won the election. Christianity was so diverse in the first few centuries. It's not what u see today. They all claimed they were Christians because they followed Christ.

Alex pointed out that one could call JP a gnostic, JP agreed, then said that gnosticism's failure to respect the material lead to it's eventual downfall. He didn't deny being somewhat of a modern gnostic himself, neither did he "rebuke" gnosticism, he just sort of explained why he didn't agree with it.

To clarify, the points raised by Alex are not original to him. He selectively highlights objections from a minority of scholars, specifically regarding passages like Matthew 27:53, which mentions the tombs opening and the holy people walking in the land. This event is only mentioned in Matthew, and we lack further details or explanations about it. As a result, these scholars focus on this aspect, fully aware of the ambiguity, yet they overlook the substantial evidence supporting the resurrection.

I would love to see ruslan make a video with a Mormon based off his response to Alex o Connor claiming Mormonism to be interesting at the end of their discussion. Sadly, I have a feeling that won’t ever happen because most people just want to shout from afar because it’s comfortable for them.

I normally enjoy Ruslan however in this one you can see even in his body language that he is already decided he doesn't agree and is just looking for ways to combat instead of just listening and engaging in good faith. The hand on the face, eye squinting, rubbing the beard the body language says a lot. Also interrupting and trying to paint Alex's views differently than he said they are implies Ruslan is either not listening or is doing that in bad faith. Both are not normally what I see from him

Alex should have someone to sit down, have coffee, read the bible together, and talk about what they read versus being told what to do. Paul, appealed to the stoics and epicureans in Athens (Acts 17:16), why are we not doing the same for those outside the faith today?

    • @Merica1776-usa
      @Merica1776-usa День назад +2

@ I agree with you and I’ve been thinking I wonder if the issue comes from people not laying out their personal beliefs first because the way I see it you either believe in a religion because the texts lead you to your beliefs or you believe for the sake of faith. Anyone who believes for the sake of faith isn’t going to consider any textual debate since it’s not the foundation for their belief system

I can't help but feel that Ruslan has this recurring bad habbit of misinterpreting or projecting his desired interpretation onto a situation. At no point in JBP and Alex O'Conner's discussion does he deliver anything remotely close to a rebuke. He has disagreements, but they (Alex and JBP) were both clearly eager to dig more into the meat of gnosticism and to contend with some of the ideas within. JBP even said it influenced the writing of his latest book.
Rusland regularly doing this is frustrating because i think its costs him some legitimacy to those who are visitng his channel. You can have meaningful discussions and be a witness without projecting your own interests into the discussion at the cost of your objectivity.

    • @RuslanKD

The true difference between Gnosticism and Orthodoxy is that Gnostics are all about themselves and Orthodoxy is about helping your neighbor.
Catholics, Orthodox, evangelicals, Protestants we are all part of orthodoxy and yes we disagree among each other but we also strive to help our fellow man!
We don’t think we’re special like gnostics we think God and his creation is special and therefor we obey Gods command to go into the world and baptize in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit!
Go check the statistics of who helps through charitable means and you will find it’s us more than anyone including more than these false leftist bureaucrats who claim they are helping the poor and needy through our tax dollars. This has always has been the case, even when St Irenaus was rebuking the gnostics of his day in the 3rd century, we were the ones helping orphans and widows. Bart Ehrman agrees with that.

    LUKE 1:1
1 Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled[a] among us, 2 just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. 3 With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, 4 so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.
There's a reason why luke is an important person in the new testament, because he didn't met Jesus , but he investigated what the early Christians in that time from yr 33 (Jesus resurrection) to his time writting yr 60ish.. what they believe.
During the yr 33 to 60s ish the early Christians transmitted by word like in
    Matthew 28:20
20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
    Mark 16:15
15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. "
Everything was by word and they knew how to stand firm just like in
    2 thessalonians 2:15
15 So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings[c] we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.
    2 thessalonians 3:6
6 In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we command you, brothers and sisters, to keep away from every believer who is idle and disruptive and does not live according to the teaching[a] you received from us.
Then year 60s that's when Luke comes and investigates and writes it down on record, so that our faith is strong and 100% legit what Christians believe
