Magnificent! I visited the ship this past April. The state of the work since then shows the dedication of the team. I look forward to making my next visit when She is back at the Memorial site.
I stood on her decks before the restoration. I think she should be dry docked somewhere so that she remains a testament to the men who sailed her for future generations. These men were truly the greatest generation.
The sad part is that if these old ships do come back into service, they're more likely to be sent to the scrapyard to be recycled than put into action against today's weapons.
Shes a beaut still at the ripe age of 110 but sad to see her naked without all the AA guns , but at least the torpedo blisters look much better . Great video !
Looks like it’s going to Pier 21 in Galveston. That was the last news release. I heard about a month ago. But there were still a few papers that needed to be signed. I have also heard Seawolf Park, however, the foundation has always said that they want her to be a standalone attraction, which she would not be at Seawolf Park. Plus, I don’t believe the water is deep enough there.
Don't want to be a killjoy - but the hull isn't close to being ready for paint yet. It's been 15 months. The State of Texas gave $35 mil., the Feds matched it for a total of $70 mil. - and it's a weird deal - none of the funds can be used for 'cosmetic repair' - like replacing the decks or any upper-works painting or repair. I don't believe the Foundation has even found a permanent berthing site yet. Looks like they're just taking their time burning thru the $70mil.. If I'm wrong, someone - please - correct me.
@@briancooper2112 modern weapons are not as plentiful as they need to be. It is smart to fully use all at your disposal. It's about layers of protection.
The USN does not need, nor want any of these ships back under any circumstances. The "newest" one that would be available would be BB63 at 79 years old as of 2023, and hasn't been in active service since 1992. The cost alone to reactive the 4 Iowa class battleships in the 1980's was 1.7 Billion dollars. These ships are antiques that serve no material benefit to the fleet, on top of the fact the last known surplus of the 16in projectiles was destroyed in 2015. The Navy can barely afford to keep the ships they have currently fully loaded and in working order, what makes you think they'd have any use for a few nearly century old antiques?
This has to be one of America’s biggest flexes. We are restoring a battleship that’s over 100 years old to what might actually be fighting condition, something almost no other nation could hope to accomplish… and then we’re going to park it as a museum.
it was put her back! dont rip us off like last Corp did! i have see here from day one. see it sit and nothing done and tow offand put back even painted with leftover cheep paint the wrong color B.S and now this crapy job and this corp kidnaping her!!! B,S,
Just put her in permanent drydock. That hull is too beautiful to put underwater again and risk rust in the future. Also putting her back in the water would just hide those magnificent lines.
So when are they going to knock that rudder back into place? If the center the damn thing the tugs won't have to strain to make her keep straight while under tow.. and can they at least mock up the ships catapults while they are at it. That's the problem with several of these museum battle ship's. They are missing the catapults for the scout planes which really stands out. They could at least mock some up out of sheet steal so at least they look right.
I believe they've tried moving it but to no avail as its stuck fast. Apparently the effect of the rudder is manageable by the Tugs and they are just going to live with it.
Why is it such a big deal to straighten the rudder cut it loose from rudder motor and weld it straight make a u frame and weld it to the hull permanently. The ship will never be used again for war purpose to many machinery parts been rusted and ruined plus old parts are outdated. Straight rudder would make it much better for the tow boats when they tow her, it won’t be the last time she’s towed she will have to be dry docked again in several yrs to check her hull and new paint job. Texas always need hull update & refit.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that, it was "Fixed" in the position of it's "last command". and in all the years she's been a Museum, the steering gear is now so corroded and seized it's not financially viable to rebuild it, just to set it "straight"
Not so sure it’s the steering gear, it’s steam powered. More like the rudder shaft is seized in its bore from being berthed in a mud bog during the first 40 odd years it was a museum ship. All of the corrosion and mud is preventing it from moving. They’d have to cut the rudder shaft out and replace it to fix the problem, which is an expense that just can’t be justified due to all of the other needed repairs that are actually imperative to getting done this time around. She’ll almost positively never sail under her own power again, so it doesn’t matter. It would be much cheaper to build a new replica of her reusing all of her usable parts than to restore her to operation.

Battleship Texas has been blessed for its rebuild with no hurricanes.
She’s a crown jewel of naval history. The last of her kind, of the mighty dreadnaughts of WW1🤩

Great deal of work that has been done. So pleased that this important piece of US naval history is being given the time and attention she is due.
What a magnificent project for such a magnificent ship! Well done, Texas 🌟!

you guys are doing an amazing job saving a priceless piece of history I cant thank you enough and will be seeing her in the future
Man, I can't wait to see this ole gal with a fresh coat of paint! Props to everyone involved in keeping her going.
Amazing footage as always!
Would love to see her sail the seas again and back to her docking station under her own power it would be a sight to see

She’s looking great! Excellent restoration work. 👍🏻
Looks like it's coming along well. An fine ship, well worth preserving.
Beautiful ship.. Keep her here in Texas.
That was cool for me when they moved her. I was following along on the internet and a ship tracking app 😊
Even with all the mismatched paint and primer she looks a 1000% better then when she pulled in.
Fantastic timely work guys! Is there any plans to fix the rudder? Great job !
Rudder will not be straightened
One day we will need this old ships again like old veteran told me he was really respected in the navy

Wow.
What are the 3 white square boxes on the right side of the ship ? 🤔
They were where she was permanently attached to the pier
@@mattheww2797 thanks 👍
I think I'll be able to approximate a 17 degree angle from now on!
What's the latest on where it's going to end up? The Iast I heard was in Kemah

Wow! I can't believe how thorough the rustproofing is. I bet the ship will be incredibly gorgeous once the outer paint is applied.
Still wish they had straightened the rudder.

Man it true what they say..Rust never sleeps..keep at it guys! Get her back to her former GLORY!
She is the last remaining Dreadnaught
The dreadnought ...
Don't just patch the holes, fix her and make her fully operational again for patrols in the gulf. Never know when we will need a battleship again
Its not feasible the old girl deserves to stay retired to teach future generations
Takes money.
There is nothing to make her operational with.
It would be easier to recommission an Iowa class than the Texas.
@@edkrach8891na but imagine china fucks around then get there face kicked in but a century old ship

Taken off long ago and will not be back

With modern weapons!🇺🇸

That would be the Iowa class (USS Missouri most likely). The Texas is truly an antique. Same engines as the Titanic 😅

She's the only one of her kind left, we need to take good care of her. Hope they fix her rudder.
I read in another post that the rudder will remain at 14 degrees to starboard but no explanation was given. Now I am curious.
