Great series of video’s and excellent effort with the hard going and enduring the weather! Lack of sleep is always a killer on the morale and mindset but please always, always use guy lines a tent is never safe just freestanding!
Thank you! I am planning a trip to Norfolk at the moment and low and behold started looking for wildcamping spots. So I think it is still in me somewhere. Hopefully the next one won't be as windy.
Great video. Your windy night reminds me of one I once spent in the Lake District, spreadeagled across the groundsheet, desperately holding down the tent! 😂
lol I can just imagine! I just was really not expecting wind like that. It was so calm the evening before, not even a tiny bit of wind. I think it was 100% the calm before the storm
I've been waiting for this episode. Thank you for sharing your journey - warts and all. Well done. Great soundtrack too . Really enjoyed watching. I love my Brompton too
Have enjoyed watching your Northumberland trip. I cannot understand why you did so much of the walking route and not the Cycle route. I have ridden it many time. Heads up on pronunciation - Alnwich is pronounced Ann-ik. I've had many a night lying hoping the tent didn't blow away. Never trust the forecast but learn to read the sky. Just keep going lad. It's the best way to see the world and don't forget you can always get a Brommie on a bus. Cheers
Thanks for watching and thanks for the heads up. I always struggle with UK town pronunciations! Being from South Africa, I tend to just say it how it’s spelt most of the time! I just followed Google maps, that’s probably why and also that’s probably why it took me so long to get around. I now have Komoot and OS maps though. So I’m going to be using that on my next trip this Wednesday to the Norfolk coast. So let’s hope that all goes to plan!
Nice ride. As I read this I am in Inverness, after finishing the Hebridean Way on my Brompton. The plan is to take the train from Inverness to Berwick-upon-Tweed and then cycle to the ferry at Newcastle for Amsterdam. Thanks for the video, it gives me a heads up on the Route 1. P.S. I don’t like wild camping either.
I hope you enjoy it. I found the scenery incredible. What is it about wild camping you don’t like? I think I will try it again at some point and I guess there may be times when I have to if I can’t make it to a campsite on time! I always seem to get delayed
I use Komoot a lot but even that can take you on stupid paths. It’s good to check with OS maps. I had a discussion with some Germans a couple of weeks ago about accents. The thing about England is we have so many dialects especially in the North East.
A+++. Very will filmed and produced. Great music as well. Northumberland is a beautiful, but desolate coast line. I love wild camping. Have pitched in some stunning places over the years. I think you were just unlucky with the weather which spoiled it for you on this occasion. Surprised you didn't go to Bamburgh Castle? I think Alnwick (pronounced An-ick) Castle was where Bladder Series 1 was filmed. What camera(s) were you using as your footage is very high definition and sharp? My GoPro 10 doesn't given any where near as good quality or clarity as yours. Do you do anything to it during edit?
Thank you, loved the coast line there. I used the DJI osmo action 4. I filmed most of it using the standard settings but for some shots I filmed in D LOG M and then colour graded them all. But I’m not an expert colour grader so I found it a bit of nightmare and ended up using templates to fix the colour in post-production! But the problem with templates is that it doesn’t work for every shot. Hopefully I’ll get better as I play around with it a bit more.
@@darinjgraham Thanks for your reply. The DJI Osmo Action 4 has some very good reviews and the footage seems much sharper than a GoPro. What ever you are doing in edit it is giving good results!
Great video. It's so lovely up there. Genius idea using a cross body bag to control the rain poncho. Mine usually flaps all over the place. How did you attach your tent to the stem?
Rather than struggle with the loaded bike up to the camp spot. I’d have unloaded and taken the bike or the bags first. It would have also been less unwieldy
lol yes in hindsight that is a good idea. I think I was worried I was running out of time before dark and I wasn’t sure what was up on top of that hill.

The tent stuff bag has straps on it so you can easily attach to anywhere on the bike. Handy to have that option
