While the self-management team is independent, the team members are interdependent.
The SMT way of working also requires limited supervision and the workers can focus on improving their skill sets and thus give better output for the for the company and the customer!
It will also help in effective problem solving, implementation of this technique comes in hand with reduction in rework, its Quality at source and through out.
Congratulations Dr.G and team for another great job!!

Great understanding on how the departmental work actually increases your lead time. This surely hinders the process of reaching the products to your customers or providing efficient service in todays competitive world.Defect reduction at that particular time and eliminating it completely making the workforce learn. Closer layouts eases the work reduces cycle time greatly.Sir, I also suggest to make a video on 'The Beer game'. This will teach all of us the actual supply chain and how inventories are managed through all the phases of supply chain.

I can relate to this very much, especially the plant tissue cultures which we used to do during my PG and also during my first job.
Secondly, Can relate this one much to Weschool too. Ability to form interdepartmental / interdisciplinary teams quickly to take on a particular task and later dissolve that temporary team after task completion.
More importantly, I could sense that ultimately this thought process hits the rigidity of human mind. Hence it is about liberating the mind. To rise. And to be able to do great things. Thank you so much Dr G and students!!

    @poojasaxena1722 7 лет назад

The creation of Cells in a department has become very important as this video has helped understand how it makes such a wide difference by just changing the structure of the process team.
    Following are the points :
    1) Reduction in wastage which indeed will reduce the cost
    2) Similar work load
    3) Quick Rectification of work
    4) No need for rework which increases the final output time otherwise.
    5) There is no need of supervisor or a boss as the whole cell is self managed by the workers and are solving problems at the very point.

This transformation can put people out of their traditional practices and make them work in collaboration where ideas and their work will be valued. By this method the employees will also feel happy and empowered and in turn, the customers will also be satisfied.

Rework is a very major time consuming factor in organisations which leads to less productivity.By using SMT rework is completely removed, because errors were immediately checked by peers and corrected immediately which leads to increase in production. By using SMT extra workforce is also reduced, which leads to cost reduction and increase in profits.

Time efficiency always leads to more and less outputs respectively. One of the major learning from this vedio is just by immediate feedback, we removed an entire reworking cell, which increased our quality skills and output. By making different cells with all required working facilities , we can reduce the time consumed and defects. These self managed teams are itself a company in a company with a team lead as a boss which leads a better Work environment also. Thanks for the learnings sir.

A great video to understand cellular structure and Quality at Source. The concept looks very easy, but if adopted, it has much bigger effects. Saving few minutes each day through these layout changes can be used to produce more products efficiently, in turn increasing the productivity. Result, more profits. Thank you so much sir for this.

An amazing way to reduce defects and in turn increasing output. It gives the workers, a chance to see where they went wrong and improve accordingly. Also, how breaking the departments benifits the output process as well as saves time. Its all so clear! Thanks alot sir!

SMT leads to reduced Rework by identifying the defects and asking the operator to reduce the defects in the very first place which will eventually led to faster Quality Check and Efficient Process. This is the most important concept every Operation Management Student must Know.
