Is the slip you applied to the disk fired mugs more diluted than the one you applied on the leather hard mugs? If so, why is that? I am really interested in the Mishima technique as I saw it in Karatsu.
Yes, I adjust the thickness of the slip for either leather-hard or bisque-fired pieces. I’ve made two videos about the “Zogan” techniques, and I explain the reasons in them. Please check them out. Your kiln looks like an electric kiln with filament wire but there was a flame source coming out of a port near the top. Is it a two source kiln of some kind? Very helpful video. Thank you.
Thank you for watching. This is an electric kiln that can be used for both oxidation and reduction firings. Gas has been added to produce the colors of reduction in the works.
Your work is beautiful. You've combined modern and traditional elements in a very pleasing way. It looks as though you use wax or fabric of some kind over the end of the stamp, what type of material is that? Is its purpose to allow the stamp to release from the pot easier?
In this video you apply the slip to bisque, but in previous videos you applied the slip at leather hard. Do you prefer one method over another to prevent flaking? Thank you.
Thank you for your comment. I apply white slip before or after bisque firing, depending on what is necessary for my work. I also show how I apply slip in the video below. Please take a look at it. ruclips.net/video/FQ1bRvUWg58/видео.html ruclips.net/video/N_xM2BlkE4k/видео.html
These cups are just SO lovely! Perfect for all sorts of coffee. I love ash glazes. And your very natural and poetic designs. I also love the attention to the bottom of the cup, as its so visible to others when you drink. You have a lovely channel and wonderful talent for pottery. ❤
Thank you. Applying white slip to the inside of the cup is primarily for aesthetic purposes. The contrast of the coffee color against the white enhances the appearance, giving the cup a softer ambiance.
I am a beginner so I need explanation on everything!!!! the white slip is just clay right? then , what is the last glaze you use ? please , thank you so much
Please take a look at another video where I show how I make white slip. I also use an ash glaze, but I recommend using a store-bought glaze for the beginning. ruclips.net/video/uqoyFxMIMvw/видео.htmlsi=QYFj66Ry2JxeC55y
How do you glaze the whole pot and not have the base stuck to the kiln? I’m struggling to glaze my own mugs so they’re fully water resistant but don’t meld to the shelf while firing.
Not only do I adore your cups, I so loved having just the sound of your work, and no extra sound.
Thank you. I hope you can feel the seasons through the sounds of insects and birds, and enjoy watching it.
@@WatajimaPotteryThank you. It's been a delight to watch
Watching and learning from your techniques and craft is wonderful, but I also really love the quiet and calm atmosphere you create in your videos.
Thank you so much. I’m very happy to hear that.
Love love your new design of these cups. They are so simple but gorgeous. And the inlay at the base is such a surprise.

I also suppose your slip has a content of feldspar in order to adhere to the bisqued mugs.

Thank you.

I’m struggling to glaze my own mugs so they’re fully water resistant but don’t meld to the shelf while firing.
My glaze uses a glaze that is resistant to dripping during firing.

Could you tell me what the “ash” glaze is?
Ash glaze is a type of glaze primarily made from wood ash or plant ash.
Thx! Beautiful work
What do you cover the mugs is?
I covered them with ash glaze.
