I think,This bees is from the wild and they came themselves to that box for their new home. You did a good job for helping them to improve their home. I've got and idea from this video. Thanks a lot for sharing it. #thebeekeepers

If the comb is on the frames then it is easy to manage and it is easier to move frames. If you leave it on the lid. eventually you will not be able to open the lid because the combs will glue it shut, besides the bees will build burr and cross comb and would be a lot of mess and hard to get apart and to extract the honey.
a lot right? if you not improve it you will kill more and more bees. Do like this you kill bee just one time and easy to manage it. One more thing you can keep this colony safety

Could you try drilling holes in your top bar of your frame an push bamboo barbecue skewers through the comb!?!?!?
