- On the 18th of May 2012, Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall hosted a dinner at Buckingham Palace for foreign sovereigns and royalty in celebration of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
Here the couple greet their guests, His (now late) Majesty the King of Romania (RIP) and Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess of Romania (now titled Her Majesty the Custodian of the Crown of Romania).
**Sidenote: It is interesting watching these events in which royals greet each other to note how protocol is followed and, in some cases such as this, broken. In this video one sees the Duchess of Cornwall curtsy to the Crown Princess of Romania. I have no idea why she did this as both are equal in rank... Makes for interesting viewing.

Rest in Peace, King Michael of Romania.
Thank you for this run of videos. I find royal protocol fascinating. Every time I've had a question...for example why Camilla curtsied to the Crown Princess....I read your notes and see that you have already addressed it. Keep up the good work!
Probably the crown princess is too infamous
Oh, the king :( RIP
Rest in peace King
Carlos y Camila ♥️♥️
I find Margareta's new title interesting. Usually, non-reigning royals who would succeed to the throne if the country were still a monarchy eschew the title "King" or "Queen", retaining "Crown Prince(ss)". Margareta has invented an unheard-of title, "Custodian of the Crown of Romania", and bizarrely uses the style "Her Majesty" without the title "Queen". I wonder why she didn't stick to Crown Princess, or why she didn't claim the title "Queen" given that she uses "Her Majesty".
it was His Majesty King Michael's decision. Since in Romania only male heirs could claim the throne and King Michael having only daughters, he, somehow, prepared the ground for a possible future return of the monarchy in romania. before dying he signed a decree, unratified by the parliament since romania is a republic, but functional within the RF, according to which the heir is the custodian of the crown and viceversa...you can t be queen or king if you haven t been crowned yet...
@mcsmiha1973 , you can indeed be king/queen without a coronation. The UK is the only European country that crowns its monarchs. And even then, the crowned monarch is monarch already, before being crowned. The coronation is merely a religious ceremony blessing the monarch and his reign.
According to Romanian Royal House Law, written by Michael himself, his successor would bear the title King/Queen. Margareta has chosen not to use this title while Romania remains a de facto republic.
Some pretenders take the title King (like Leka II of the Albanians) while others just keep their title as heir to the throne (like Crown Prince Pavlos of Greece).
Hi Good morning,
The HRH Duchess of Cornwall not suppossed curtsey to The Then Crown Proncess of Romania...
Agreed! I think she was on autopilot.
Yees she was autopilot or she not know her?
She might not recognize her...
She must have thought that the Crown Princess was the late Queen Anne of Romania
HRH Duchess of Cornwall. Is ranked lower than a Crown Princess..
Late King of Romania ...Was never Dethroned. Although the Royal Family do now Live in Romania. They have no Power But the People respect them. It was the Nazis then Soviet forces. That made it impossible for Royal Family to stay in Romania...So it was right for our Royal Duchess to Curtsey to The late King and his Eldest Daughter....
wish diana was here
Don't bash the Dss of Cornwall for making a curtsy mistake. Since King Michael of Romania correctly should get a curtsy, she probably wasn't paying attention and also gave a curtsy to his daughter accompanying him thinking it was his queen.
Even those born into a royal family have made mistakes. In 1953 film footage from Gloriana premiere at ROH Covent Gardens as a part of Queen Elizabeth's coronation, the 21 year old princess Astrid of norway curtsied in error to Mary, princess royal. It must be so difficult to keep track of who is who in such a setting.
Especially that you belong into this big family where your distant relations are monarchs, one might probably not get to meet all of them.
Margareta of Romania has been good friends with Charles since childhood, so I am pretty sure that Camilla knows who she is and has met her before. But it's not a terrible mistake, it's fine. It's better to give a curtsy to someone you don't need to curtsy to than to forget to curtsy to someone you should curtsy to, after all ;)
Wondering why Camilla had to curtsey to the princess of Romania
Beacuse Princess Margareta(now HM Margareta of Romania)was the crown princess
And Camilla was lower ranked than the Crown Princess
She didn't have to, I think she just did it because she generally curtsies to both the kings and queens and since she had just curtsied to the king, she didn't even think and just did it out reflex.
@@Antonescu-yh7ew This happened way before she assumed her father’s style as Majesty. I think Camilla just made a humble mistake curtseying to her.
@@m4lteas3 Yes, it was a very humble mistake of Camila's.
🔊🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡✔
Germans, if they meet... :)
I thought that Keith Vaz was the first to welcome them at Heathrow airport and give them a gift voucher.
It must be a chore figuring out who to bow and not bow to. Geez
It's very easy. Charles and Camilla should bow and curtsy to Kings, Queens, Emperors or Empresses. There is only one Emperor nowadays, the Japanese one, what makes things even easier. But if Charles meets the retired Emperor of Japan, he also should bow.Once an Emperor or King you keep the title, whatever happens to you. And don't forget that the Pope is also a sovereign but bowing or curtsying to him is something rather delicate for religious reasons.
I see not the point of inviting fallen monarchs.
And the QUEEN Elizabeth sees that and the rest of the British Royal Family. What's more, Romania gave His Majesty and His Family the Title of the King officialy! He was forced by the communist to resign and this does not count! His daughter is a Proncess of Romania which will become The Kingdom soon I hope.
@@airlinernee8292 I hope that too. I can only wish that Monarchy in Romania will be restored (even though I don't see it happening in the near future). Long live the Queen (of the UK)!
@@anacletwilliams8315 Hi! Agreed! Look, one day when the Royals were invited to the Backingham Palace, The King Mihai of Romania was sat next to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, of course, She agreed for that. This show that He was included to the Royal Families. :) Yes, long live The Queen of the UK!, long live all the good people in the world!
@@airlinernee8292 It certainly was a great honor for King Mihai of Romania to be seated next to Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth II, specially considering his position as a fallen monarch. Long live all Kings and Queens, reigning or deposed!
They're all related.
Warum knickst Camilla vor Frau Duda?
Das war ja wohl ein Versehen.
Was will die da überhaupt?
Honestly, Romanian abolished these titles over 75 years ago and still hangers on are looking for a free lunch - Get a job, get a life and move on from this nonsense!
They were forced out and banned. They only could come back recently. Shame on you. He dedicated life to Romania and didn't want the Nazis to be allies.
@@annaelvans556 Don't be such a numpty, you utterly ridiculous, ruling class boot licking prize lackie 🥉
After his forceful abdication King Michael had a variety of jobs: farmer, mechanic, stock broker etc. He was regarded as the poorest former monarch in Europe.
@@nickkarantzas7194 I have more respect for the man now that I know he stood on his own feet and not on the shoulder of a great nation and nonsense titles -
Sorry but you are not romanian to comment on how we feel about the monarchy!
