This is the wealthy man's 4x4...the poor mans 4x4 is the Land/Range Rover. The 4Runner is more reliable/durable and cost less than the Rovers. Therefore, you keep more money for investments. While the owner of the Rovers have to waste money on repairs and towing. Towing will not be cheap when your stuck in the middle of no where!
Yes I LOVE the redesign and I love that Toyota has chosen to keep the legendary truck with it's body on frame roots. all those people out there that want fuel efficiency, get a Prius or Chevy Sonic LOL. This SUV is probably the only one left that hasn't moved over to the crossover segment.
@kozthe Those aren't leafs. Those are trailing arms. The rear suspension is carry over from the 4th gen 4Runner, the FJ Cruiser and 120 LandCruiser Prado. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about.
I like the aggressive styling of the new 4Runner, but when I got inside it, I found very cheap interior materials/pieces. Also, even though it looks big on the outside, it didn't seem to have much interior space, especially the 3rd row, which is for kids younger than 7 only and seemed to have no padding in it.
@Zinizzle Toyota does have two nice features, low gearing and electronic lockers. But you gotta be careful with them. My buddies Toyota pick up did pretty good, but after one weekend he hydrolocked the motor once trying to follow a chevy and by the end of the weekend we had to take off his rear driveshaft because it was bent so much he couldn't go down the highway. To the motors credit, it ran for a few months after that before grenading on a highway somewhere, lol.
Hydrolock is relatively common when driving through floods, either where the water is above the level of the air intake. So that was his own fault haha. And don't mention a Chevy oh god, I have two of them in the garage right now that's only a few years old, and one has a blown head gasket at 60k and the other the radiator went bad at 73k, plus the rattles and squeaks I had since new. Never again, my primary driver 94 4Runner was only maintenance and has 330k on it.
I've owned several land rovers, and Rang rover. The Toyata is far more superior because its more stable electronically, and it has very little mechanical problems compared to the Rovers. We've had several versions of rovers in the dealer, and no one likes to mess with them. Cause you can almost guarentee that they would be back in the shop for something else to be repaired. The 4runners are incredibly durable machines. Great off road. If your an extremist, I would go with Jeep Wrangler.
@kozthe Because traditional leafs offer more capability, and higher towing capacity figures. Sometimes sticking to traditional routes is the best way to go, in terms of dependability.
@TheComeonfeet I know! I saw that on my local Toyota dealership...I was like "what?" I want one of these but if I ever get one, it's definitely gonna be something much much older....like 1996-1997 you know, poor man prices! LOL
Toyota needs to take some styling cues from it's older 4Runners. I think the new ones look so average. Good drivetrain, though. Still, I prefer the simple and old transmissions and engines.
How can anyone question the quality and reliability of Toyotas?? 75% of Toyotas are still on the road today. Can u say that about any other brands of cars out there? U just can't go wrong when purchasing a Toyota or a Honda. They are as reliable as they come. PERIOD...
no, /watch?v=xBzw_rr-IIY. suvs are more than about offroad, they are about towing, and about rugged rigidity, which a rav4 or pontiac Aztek indisputably lacks of.
@hong99sm Your obviously biased against Toyota. 4runners have always been expensive and they sell well, because its just that good, best value for the money in this segment.
These 4runner's are some of the best vehicles I've ever seen. I'm definitely buying one in the future.
Cant afford the new TRD Pro, but thankfully there is this trail model aging gracefully :)

Love the new look so much I bought one. Good power, stable and quiet on the highway, a classic suv which is a good thing.
You still have it?
I love the look of the new 4-Runner! You raise it a bit and put some bigger offroad wheels and it looks BEAST!
@n0c0n the third gen is still using the truck suspension (the one i own) but the later model actually have atrac which makes the ride a lot smoother
the 2010-present Toyota 4Runner is assembled in
Tahara, Aichi, Japan
@roadandtrail16 yes it was. The 4 cylinder was only in 2010. They dropped it in 2011 and not the only engine is the 1GR-FE 4.0L V6.

Steve Hammes is the man!

such a badass rig, though 2nd and 3rd generations are my favorite

this is a true offroader , seems pretty good for the price
At 1:59, what is that thing in the front right of the automatic shifter? it almost looks like a manual shifter...

good car, good design...but will it last good?
ikr, i miss the durango, pathfinder, explorer, not to mention their turning the escalade into a crossover next year D:

those are "off road" tires? what are their "on road" tires? slicks? lol.
I'm sure the most useful terrain button on it is the "mall" terrain button.
Steve Hammes! awesome! That guy is the best at cat reviews
this suv is the bomb. when it comes to offroading its yota or nothing
which one is better, the Honda Pilot or this 4Runner
@TheComeonfeet I know! I saw that on my local Toyota dealership...I was like "what?" I want one of these but if I ever get one, it's definitely gonna be something much much older....like 1996-1997 you know, poor man prices! LOL
@kozthe Because it doesn't have leaf springs.
I hope the new tacoma will take some design cues from the new 4runner.
Wow what a handsome car!
What happened to her? She was my favorite car reviewer ❤️
More reliable than a Landrover!
i4 was only available in 2010.

@l337pwnage my 94 gets me through snow 4 feet deep, 4x4 on these are awesome. And that's with aggressive all terrains. It also has 330k on it ;]
gostei desse carroo
Now THIS is a suv. off road, and no curves.
Honda Pilot is a good city car but 4Runner is an off-road vehicle . The Honda Pilot's competitor is the Toyota Highlander not the 4runner !
you guys can check out another in depth tour of the 4runner on my channel!!!
Okay it's 2022 and I am getting this in 2023
@3619Country 40K is a lot to spend on a Toyota... rust or no rust...
@n0c0n seems like you've never owned a 4runner
I like the video and the car, but Impressive MPG... ahmm how about not that bad for an off-roader or too thirsty for a V6

THIS is the real Sport Utility Vehicle. I want one and not the gays crossovers

those wheels are original...
Hottest SUV ever.
ill lock the $hit out of that differential!
I love the new 4runner but, I would like to see it take on sh#t then this. I can do this sh*t in my Subaru.
