I ordered the wiring from Home Depot. I already had my Tow Hitch installed. I followed the directions in this video. After I installed it I went to U-Haul to check my wiring job. They used a electronic test device and everything was fine. Now I’m going to use U-Haul to transport my motorcycle. Thanks U-Haul!!! Oscar
If a person wants to use a brake controller - Correct me if I am wrong - there is obviously the 7-pin connector under the dash (as shown in the video) - and it turns out there is ALSO a 7-pin connector (in addition to the 4-pin) in that compartment near the back hatch. So...I get a brake controller...connect it to that 7-pin under the dash...and then also connect some wires to the 7-pin rear connector, then mount a round, 7-pin connector under the bumper. I have a 2008 Highlander Hybrid Limited with the tow package.
Unfortunately no, this wire harness only adds a ground, left turn/stop, right turn/stop and running lights. The addtional functionalities of reverse lights, 12v power and electric brake controller need to be hard wired into a 7-way socket. Here is a link to a video showing how to add the remaining functions. ruclips.net/video/hqze3Qgz-Ng/видео.html
If you want to use a brake controller you have to have these functionalites installed on your Highlander. You need an electric brake controller under the dash and a 7 way socket under the bumper. There is no adapter that has that signal anywhere pre wired in your vehicle. This video shows how to access turn indicators and running lights. The additional functinalities in a 7 pin connection need to be wired to the battery, the 7 way socket and routed under the bumper because there is NO electric brake signal in your vehicle. The brake light signal that exist is simply the computer turning on an incandescent bulb at the rear of the vehicle. It does not signal the application of trailer brakes. Thats what you need to hardwire in.
Hello, I’ve got a 2008 Highlander Limited. I can’t find that connector but there is a 13 pin connector with 7 wires going to it. Is there a way I can use this connector for a trailer plug?
I also have the limited same year and that isn't correct. The 4 pin is tucked on the back side of that rear side pocket. And the 10 pin is under the driver dash behind the brake. Might need to maneuver your body a bit to find.
I do not understand what the front converter box is. If we have the 2010 Highlander with the "factory towing package," is that piece already there? Thanks!
@@koreyhannan9071 I went ahead and ordered a "kit" specific to the vehicle with the "towing package." The kit provided any missing parts, specifically under the dashboard near the pedals of your car; the other parts fit just fine in the rear driver's side. Just follow the directions is what I did, not worrying about rhyme or reason. Ha. It's all good. I got my kit off amzn.

@@trailerhitches Thanks for the quick reply. But OK, I'm not looking to "add" braking functionality, I'm looking to install it right from the start.

@@AerialLensVideo OK thanks. I looked under my dash and I do not have the plug in already. Also there was no 30 amp fuse installed under the hood
@@koreyhannan9071 Hmmmm. Interesting for sure. Is there a video about doing this for your exact model and year? The answer must be somewhere.
@@AerialLensVideo i did find one of Amazon thanks. Just plug it in and go
