  • According to a leaked audio recording, Flint official Phil Stair said that the reason the Flint water crisis ever happened is because of “f*cking n***ers” who don’t pay their bills. This is by far the most disgusting reason ever giving for the poisoning of thousands of residents in Flint, Michigan with lead-contaminated water, and shows why officials still haven’t solved the problem. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this. Subscribe to the Ring of Fire for more: / theringoffire

    Not only is this blatently racist (feels bad to be a black person living down there), it's also pathetic. Instead of pointing fingers at minorities, why don't you try to actually fix the damn problem like an adult?

    Actually, they weren't going to save money. It was going to cost them more money, because Detroit's price was just an estimate. The reason Snyder changed the water was to privatize pipelines so that fracking companies could monopolize the water. Jordan Chariton reported on this.

    Whether they paid the bill or not has absolutely no bearing on the water company cutting corners. That was a decision they made. If they weren't generating enough profit then they should have cut the water or raised the price. They have no one to blame but themselves and shifting the blame isn't going to make the citizens start paying for tainted water.

      @screamingdean5 7 лет назад +3

      +Michael Coville That's not logic at all. Sounds ridiculous to me. They need to simply clean that water up. This should not have gone on this long.
      If I didn't know better I'd think the Michigan government was trying to kill the black people of its state.

    • @azure9809
      @azure9809 7 лет назад

      It's not quite as simple as cleaning up the water, if I remember right. Faulty lead pipes, I think that need to be replaced on a wide spread. Not saying them not doing it is the right thing, just bringing some context to it. They need to get their asses in gear and get this fixed ASAP.

    • @stevengehl
      @stevengehl 7 лет назад

      Claire is correct. No one "placed poison" in the water. The lead comes from the pipes. The problem was corrosion which broke down the protection on the pipes allowing the lead to leach. Corrosion control which was the fault of the water commissioner. Even with 100x the funding they have, removing the lead pipes in not something that can happen quickly.

    • @azure9809
      @azure9809 7 лет назад

      Steven Gehl Indeed. While I think the hesitation and acts of the officials in Flint are detestable, cruel, ignorant, and out of touch with their people..... we all need to deal in cold hard facts and keep a cool enough head to not blame people for things they have not done. They did not poison the water. But the gross negligence of the Flint officials when it comes to city upkeep and safety has the same effect on people, as if they had. Even if it was not actually "intentional."

    • @azure9809
      @azure9809 7 лет назад

      Steven Gehl The water commissioner's incompetence or desire to skip safety steps may have been the cause of the problem in the first place and should rightly be ridiculed and shamed for it. But the officials of Flint are doing anything they can to find reasons not to help and fix things. The situation is a sad one.....

    Until now I just figures most Republican public officials had a drive to fill their pockets and that of their donors at any cost, and only considered minorities and liberals a convenient scapegoat when their states and districts went to shit and their constituencies were looking for folks to blame as a result of their tenure. But given that this guy would privately blame a minority for gross mismanagement by the state government, I'm forced to second guess the idea that Republican officials are unscrupulous but not bigoted. It seems that some of them really are just intellectually stunted and cannot recognize basic patters or piece together simple causal relationships. Many of them, like this public official, just have a set of talking points to which everything in reality is forced to conform in their mind, no matter what mental gymnastics have to be done.

  • @diGritz1
    @diGritz1 7 лет назад +1

    FYI............... It wasn't dirty water. The problem was that they neglected to add a corrosive inhibitor to the water. This caused corrosive substances to break down the phosphate coating that normally keeps the water out of contact with the inner lead pipe walls. Although cost savings was the reason for all of it.

    • @diGritz1
      @diGritz1 7 лет назад

      It was in the hands of the City Managers who were installed by Rich Snyder AKA Governor and several officials at the plant. Because Flint was close to bankruptcy. At least that was the primary cause. It was later exasperated by EPA offical that ignored a report by a lower ranked EPA official and several Michigan officials.
      There were also several organizations and individuals that actively discredited anyone who questioned the water safety. This happened several times including an EPA official. It wasn't until children's blood tests were compared to tests prior to this that they had to admit it.

    It's really unfortunate for the Flint residents who can't just pack up and move to a better place, I feel bad for city people, but it seems things like this should be expected when you pack how many people on top of each-other? I grew up on the edge of the wilderness so have a hard time understanding _why_ people would actually _want_ to live in a large city.
    Not that I haven't tried it out for myself though, I've dabbled in the city life and it is not for me. Sure the convenience is nice, not having to order everything online and all US cities have something fun about them, but to spend ones entire life walking on pavement & sod is beyond my comprehension.

      In Ontario Canada we had an e-coli outbreak that killed 7 people in 2000. The managers of water treatment were charged, we now have 19 community based "Source Protection Committees" whose job it is to identify potential contaminants and make recommendations for protecting lakes, streams and springs. In addition their is a funding system which helps farmers and small businesses with setting up safe water practices.
      We have had no incidents since then.

      When millions people are all drinking processed water that runs through hundreds of miles of different pipes you can most definitely expect problems, especially if the system is old. I would bet every single major city is constantly dealing with water issues.
      Don't have to worry so much about city-water when one has an 8" artesian well.

      If people would have been paying for the water all along, maybe the city would have had less motivation to cut costs by not treating the water. Remember, they switched water sources in order to save money-- Money they didn't have because so many people didn't pay their bills.

    • @ancarwillis9060
      @ancarwillis9060 7 лет назад

      Yes yes because people not paying them caused the water company to cut corners. Do you know how stupid that sounds. If you can't generate a profit then get out of the business. If they weren't getting paid then they should have cut the water off simple as that. Instead they cut corners in order to milk more money out of a failed system and now they have a nice fat lawsuit. I hope they enjoy it.

    Your opening statement is incorrect. The man worked for the Land Bank and was not on the Council. He had nothing to do with the water.

    • @kirad
      @kirad 7 лет назад

      Actually, your statement is wrong. The Land Bank owned the Ross Plaza and has been playing damage control to buy out land in the Flint area "Lyons said she's concerned by the Land Bank's role as Flint's largest property owner. The agency takes over tax-foreclosed properties, carrying out demolitions, rehabilitations and sales.
      "The Land Bank is taking up all of the properties in Flint... They are pushing people out of neighborhood," Lyons said this morning."

      XIPHIASCDXX I know exactly why those laws are in place. I'm glad they are. I was only talking about America because the coal mine being discussed is opening in America. The comment above implied that children will be working in the mine and that's simply not true. The coal miners of first world countries are also much better off than they ever have been before. There are an average of 24 coal mining fatalities per year while there are an average of 233 miners that die in other mining industries per year. I'm not arguing for child labor I'm pointing out the above comments stupidity.

At the time of the decision to switch water sources, were the citizens regularly paying their water bills? If not, there may be some actual truth to his statement not matter how ugly the wording?

    • @SSanf
      @SSanf 7 лет назад

      Oh please, this is purely a blame the black people moment, nothing more nothing less. Flint has a 57% black demographic, who just so happen to be the majority living underneath the poverty line. Break it down to how many people own homes vs living in an apartment building, which percentage of these apartments came with free water, etc, the claim is just nonsensical. He has no just cause, he just being an ignorant bigot.

    • @quique7764
      @quique7764 7 лет назад +9

      No, it's not true at all. The reason lead leached into the water supply has nothing to do w/ unpaid bills or Black people & has everything to do w/ Republicans wanting to cut local municipalities budgets in order to make up for the budget shortfall caused by the tax cuts they gave to corp. & the wealthy or trickle down economics.

    • @stevengehl
      @stevengehl 7 лет назад +2

      Quique's explanation is not correct either. The reason for the crisis is because both the City of Flint and the residence paid (and still pay) some of the highest water bills in the country due to the agreement with the Detroit Water Authority. Detroit was subsidizing their water bills by raising the prices of places like Flint. Flint signed on to a new, cheaper water authority that would be ready in 2018 and the DWA broke their contract so they could milk them out of spite. This forced Flint to move temporarily to the Flint River (their backup supply of water). All of this would have worked out great if the incompetent water commissioner had treated the water for corrosion like he should have but instead it corroded the pipes. Lead now leaches from the pipes no matter the water source.

      It's worse because we've learned enough about the difference in the races to know better. It's worse because, despite the fact that we know all people have equal potential, large numbers of people still revert back to the OLD system that says they don't deserve equal treatment.
      Sadly, too many people in power just let it slide. They won't address the real problems and inequality continues to fuel the treatment of minorities...and that fuels the anger that minorities feel toward the government and the rest of society. Unfortunately, we know better...but many don't ACT better.
