  • I read and read and all the "experts" said this couldn't be done. Well, I did it. Even the people (HESCO) who make the mpi kit for the 4.2 say it can't be done. Well, I did it and it works. Solid grey wire out of ecu to solid red wire on tach, red/white wire on tach to other cut end of solid grey wire going to coil. This works for obd 1 (1995 and older) 4.0L jeep motors

    Your post was a godsend! Thank you for posting it I just put a 4 L out of a 94 Cherokee into my CJ five with all of the Cherokee wiring and this tack was the last thing I was trying to trace down ..couldn’t figure it out off of the dash cluster. Thank you so much worked perfectly! Mark Clayton

    I was excited when I read your post. Unfortunately, it does not work with my setup. I also have the Hesco MPI kit on my 1986 CJ 7, 4.2 with a 4.0 head. When I do the bypass, the starter will not kick in, and the fuel pump will not energize. As soon as I hook the factory tach back up into the system, the fuel pump comes on and it fires right up. And by the way, it is ALWAYS a new pressure regulator at HESCO, regardless of the problem....
    Any additional information you can pass on would be great.
    Thanks Christopher for your post.

    How's this working long term? Everything I've read online says to insert the tach inline to the POSITIVE to the coil. Not the negative which is the grey wire like your video shows. I'm running a 1991 YJ ignitioned 4.0 and want to keep my original i6 CJ7 tach.

      It slides in from the front of the dash and there's a "cup" that slides over the back of it held on by a screw in the center. The tach and cup sandwich the dash, if that makes sense

    Yo! I was wondering how all the gauges stay in on Dash. Can I replace all gauges without taking the dash off?

    • @ninja63639
      @ninja63639  4 года назад +1

      The speedo has 4 speed nuts holding it in. The two small gauges have a strap with a nut on either side and the tach has a screw in the back middle of the gauge with a plastic piece around the back of the gauge. The clock I cant remember. You'll have to lay on the floor and shimmy your hand up behind the dash but it can be done

      it came with the jeep so I'm not sure. I'm thinking it's original to the jeep, if they had an option for one

      I talked to hesco and they were trying to sell me a pressure regulator but the fuel pump makes more sense.
