- made this a week or so ago, I heard this cover on TikTok a while ago and thought it was beautiful. So my brain automatically said to me: "what if it was angsty?". so here, have something that is wholesome but also a little sad.
the scenario I had in my head for this one was just after Fundy's birth, either sally died during childbirth or she ran away. either way Wilbur is sad boy about her :)

Looking at his son sound asleep, he found comfort, even tho he was alone and cold, he could still find comfort on how innocent the small child seemed under the covers of his jacket, creeping a smile on his face. 'It's gonna be alright. We'll be okay. I'll protect you.' ".

I'm gonna be honest- for the longest time I thought that Wilbur was a bad parent to Fundy- maybe he still is, but I'm not longer sure. From Fundy's view, it looks like his father abandoned him for a country ultimately doomed, and for people he would ultimately betray. It doesn't make sense in a way, because they'd supposedly had a somewhat peaceful relationship before- but one thing is very clear, Fundy resented Wilbur for the decision he made to leave him over and over. Ghostbur makes things even worse- as he is just trying to reconnect with his son, that being said, by that point, Fundy had enough of that. But... why would Ghostbur do this if Wilbur didn't care? So he must of cared to some extent. Think about it, Ghostbur barely remembers L'manburg- but one thing that he does remember? Fundy, his only son. I don't know about anyone else, but this puts things in perspective for me. Wilbur did care- he was just.... horrible at showing it. Ghostbur tries to make up for that, but it's already too late. The whole thing at it's core can be broken down to a misunderstanding, and a difference in opinions on how love is shown and given to one another. But yeah- just my thought process on that, because this reminded me of it.

that kind of ties into a theory i have that ghostbur and revivebur are two halves of a whole. ghostbur being made up of the more sad but gentle emotions and revivebur being made up of the more intense and angry emotions

Ghostbur only remembers Wilbur Soot's happy memories. He does not remember L'Manberg but does remember Fundy. It hurts my heart to know things this way.

I’d like to imagine that because of avian (Phil) culture, it’s a thing where you kick your child out at a certain age. When Wilbur met Sally and had Fundy, that was around the time Phil was going to kick him out. I’d also like to think Phil wasn’t thrilled at having a grandchild.
And so Wilbur had to stay in various caves and such.
And so on this day, it rained.
It rained and it reminded him of Sally.

Headcanon: the species/looks of DSMP characters are not based off genetics. It’s more like a personality thing, or a “zodiac sign” thing.

The rain pattered against the ground outside of the cave. Wilbur watched as it got heavier, his hand on his newly born son’s chest. This was no way to raise a son- no home, food, or mother.
*Maybe I could go back to Phil’s. He could help me out,* Wilbur thought. Then again, he didn’t have the best relationship with his father. Maybe it was worth a shot, though. After all, he was in desperate need.
Even with all these thoughts flowing through his brain, he sang his little boy, Fundy, a soft, comforting lullaby to help lure him to sleep.
I really love this animatic so much, and played it time to time in 2023. If i could just separate c!wilbur amd cc!wilbur, maybe that feeling will come back again. But, to be honest, the moment he chose to be that kind of person already doomed everything we fans like about him, including his songs, his stories, his dynamics.
Same. Everything I’ve ever associated with him is ruined now. I feel bad about ever having supported him despite it being something we never would have known otherwise. I can’t separate C!W and CC!W because of how involved in lore writing he was for the DSMP and it’s just sad Y’know? I still love this animation but it’s something I can’t come back to often because of it hurting a bit too much.

I wish there was a full version of this song and the rain together. It’s so calming 😌 also I love this animatic so much. I love the family dynamic of fundy and Wilbur, it was one of the first storylines on the DSMP that caused me to become a fan.

Wilbur looks so tired. As he should be.
A few days after first battle in which he lost his wife, Wilbur didn't have a place to stay. It should be obvious, they were in a small country which was trying to get independence, they were at war.
But to Wilbur, who was still grieving his wife, this was something what broke him the most. Fact that he and his little one didn't have anything, not even a roof over their heads.
He tried to do everything for Fundy, but he just couldn't. Not with this war, not with L'manburg.
This was the place where he noticed that it all didn't make any sense, because he had to abandon his son to guarantee his safety. Here, in this cave, he was grieving his wife and his son who he was going to lose.
Ppl who don’t regularly watch dsmp must be so confused cause this is different than the other stuff I see. It just gives me different, more comfy vibes and I love it dearly. Idk man it just doesn’t remind me of other dsmp animations and it really makes you wanna dive into the backstory of the characters if you don’t even know who they are. (I do, I’m just sayin)

The heavy clouds drowned out the sun, the woods absorbing the sadness of the clouds that unbeknownst to the clouds was shared by a lone father who sat by the cave's edge. Hidden half in the dark of the damp cave with his tired, worn hand lying gingerly on the warm and fragile skin of a little child wrapped in a navy blue cloak that shielded the father for so many nights before. He hummed a song to the earth, to the trees, to the wind, to the struggling clouds and sun, and most importantly to the child- his child. It was a forgotten melody, but the tune and meaning ran clear as a summer's day, reminding him of a much sunnier time when he met by the water's edge impatiently for a sweet darling mermaid with brilliant hair and shining eyes. He'd sang that song for her, made up and patched it's weary tunes to a much happier melody that now seemed melancholy to his mouth. He looked down after a moment in the middle of the verse that he remembered so finely that had now dissolved into mere hums and guessing at his sleeping bundle and smiled a smile that met his eyes and crinkled the bags under them with hope. He'd lost and he gained, a bittersweet thing.

So.. this made me think of a scenario.
I think Wilbur wanted some alone time or something happened causing him to hide in the cave, and at that point in time he went into labor- (That sounds weird to say for some reason, but this has been in my mind for weeks) and so Fundy was born in a cave, and Wilbur gave Fundy his coat to keep him warm and dry from the rain. :] (Also why Wilbur looks so tired, it is tiring to have a child-)

discarding the fact that fundy is assleep here, I headcanon that this is one of the memories he hates most about will. It shows that wilbur was not always crazy and a horrible dad, sometimes he was just like this. It would add to fundys confusion and mixed feelings over him.
