He was old enough to know that blasting the siren when traffic is at a stand still just pisses everyone off and doesn't get you there any faster. Just keep the lights going and use your maneuvering skills and horn to get you thru the mess.
I like the slightly noticeable difference between the CHP motorcycle and patrol car sirens, the motorcycle sirens have a higher pitch than the patrol cars.
Why did CHP go with simple wig wag flash patterns on their cars. I thought latest information is drivers respond better to multi selection of patterns instead of the same single flash pattern. I know they have the California Red to the front but just the simple wig wag seems boring and wont catch drivers attention.
Howard892 CHP actually has one of the lowest Officer involved crash rates in the country, “they credit this to the unique style that their patrol units are designed so that they maintain traditionary standards and high visibility from their vehicle detailing and emergency lights and siren setups that draw maximum attention from drivers when responding to calls and preforming regular patrol duties such as traffic stops and accident investigations....”- Monterey Times 2015 Article about the new patrol cars CHP had been integrating.
Actually the study proves otherwise. In short, you need alternating lights but you also need distance in between those lights. Multi flash lights especially multicolored lights tend to create a steady burn purple blob appearance to on coming motorist and have no real change to gather the attention needed. 3 things to consider about the public when code 3 driving. Detection, Recognition and Reaction. If you take away any one of those 3, you have increased potential for a traffic collision.
Some Departments will not let a "wheel" respond Code 3 or in my State,, 10 - 38, red lights, 10 - 39 red lights and sirens. Too many Police Officers being injured or killed. Drivers just don't pay attention or really care. You see how they fail to yield to a Police Car so you can imagine what it is like concerning a "wheel".aka motorcycle
This has to be the weakest code 3 Officer needs help response I've seen. They just weren't rolling that hard. Here in Los Angeles you'll see convoys, leap frogging etc.
You have to take into account the traffic. You would be surprised as to how many motorists DON'T yield/pull to the right. You can't help if you don't get there. Dumb ass!
Even in la they have hard traffic so sometimes it's hard for them to respond like that plus just like the person above my comment said you can't do anything if you don't get there.
As a retired police officer, let me say that the CHP car at 1:56 has a very crappy flash pattern. Not very effective. Somewhat at the motorpool needs to fix that
They are pretty boring... modern LEDs are capable of being so much more flashy though I’m sure it was not a random decision to choose something less flashy; it’s California... you can’t fart here without performing an environmental impact study.
Those 2011 CHP Crown Vics are so nostalgic, reminds me of 2010-13, good times.
I love how that charger at the end was just like "beep beep", coming through. Excuse me please. "Beep" sorry, gotta pass you.
Most chilled response ever

If a cop says I been shot or I need back up you better believe they will come from all over.
Nice Catch!Loved those CHP bikes, and the polar bear crown Vic slick top!
I saw one of those polar bear Crown Vics.
@@edmundlau8173 And I own one
Love the sound of the CHP Harley.
I lived in Lancaster CA for the past 3 years.... It's refreshing to see people actually yield for emergency lights
I never realized how different the old and new SCPD sirens were
What's up with the crown Vic at 1:28, several of the lights are out and no bull bar
still on the fence about wether I think the polar bear or standard livery is better
Nice Crown Vic siren on the OPD car
You mean SCPD car?
I can’t believe the motorcycle officers don’t wear more protective gear!!Madness!
Added to favorites.
Lol... the last guy just cruising over
Takes a heck of a lot of trust to run Code on a Wheel.
Just an amazing video!!
It would be cool if you had drone so you can see the police cars and fire trucks from high up.
Awesome Catch!
You should probably have both hands on the wheel if you're rolling Code......or at least that's that what I was trained to do. 😅😆
I love CHP!
Wow, very nice. Like CHP!
nice catch, good video
the "HOT DOUGHNUTS" sign at Krispy Kreme just came on
Really? A cop/donut joke?
Yep really

This light pattern also helps out during the fog so when there's a lot of fog and low visibility those lights are actually seen better

Sweet catches
Lights and sirens....Everyone! Stop exactly where you are and don't move! Freeze in place. Frustrating seeing drivers stop in place.

This must be a 11-99 response
Was the suspect caught?
He lives in san diego
HA! I have a AK an you are a single cop with a glock! What can you do!?
Wai..You are. 2 cops! 3...No 4 ..5..10? 20......43....OK OK I SURRENDER!
