OMG these dudes so totally rock the world!!!! Had heard a little of them before Monsters was used at the end of the Criminal Minds show (another awesome thing) and after that I'm a complete fan. It was so incredible to use Monsters at the end of that Criminal Minds show (Open Season) - the music director or whoevever at CM is a flippin' genius. Couldn't have picked a better song.

I love the song and it was perfect for that scene in Criminal Minds. However, I don't quite get what the lyrics mean. could someone please explain to this older generation person?

It is a song of hope. The song says that awful people are out there and they try to feed on others, but when you find yourself caught up in that you can choose to transform the people around you to make life better. And the song ends with, "When I am lost it's only for a little while"

Lisa McDowell it's basically a metaphor. HE is not referring to actual "animals" but as bad, mean, selfish, or cold hearted people. While the song is saying that, it also is saying that good people out there can stop them, and even get them help. Now to think about it, it was used perfectly for the scene.
