    Hello, Alex!
I've been learning English by myslef for over 9 years specifically since 2014.
I've applied all learning techniques and methods e.g watching video lessons on engvid and RUclips, doing online free courses, reading books and looking up new words and add them to my flashcards app with definitions and example sentences so forth.
And since 2017 I've become a private Tutor of English. I've been teaching all school stages and giving foundation courses for young students so far.
At the end of the day and simirizingly, I gained lots of teaching experience, increased my vocabulary and my English level rose to B2 a few weeks ago.

Hi, Alex. I've been learning English for 14 months: 8 months in English courses, and 6 months by myself (I decided to stop learning in courses at New Year). How do I continue learning English by myself? I watch and listen to English teachers on RUclips, only two teachers (Bob the Canadian, and you - Alex), leave comments below the videos, watch videos in my specialty(internet marketing, investments), try to make my own sentences on different topics (gerund, to be, phrasal verbs, irregular verbs, different tenses, etc), write down unfamiliar words in my vocabulary (by the way, I've already had more than 2500 words in my vocabulary! It's a lot for me.), repeat familiar words (Anki droid). I don't use apps, don't watch films, don't listen to songs. I don't know why, maybe I don't like it. I don't watch films even in my native language.
What will I plan to do in the near future? I'm going to find an English native teacher, first of all, and continue to do all things what I do usually. Tha'ts it.
How do you (subscribers of Alex's channel) learn English?

Probably, it would be more clear if you said something like this: "I used the Duolingo and watched movies ..."
It's really help you - isn't pretty correct. "It's really helpful to you" or "It will help you"
      I would express that massange:
I have learned English by using the Duolingo and watching movies. I also had lots of meetings and conversations on Clubhouse. That will really help you guys if you apply my pieces of advice in your self-education.

I've been learning English by myself for years now...I got a base at school, and, after that, I've been upgrading my knowledge. I've put the accent on studying various textbooks and other books that I managed to acquire. I'm better at reading than listening, but I've been listening to some videos in English on RUclips. I've also watched some videos from engVid - you, Alex, and some other teachers. I've even tried some websites for online conversation, but either those people were way below my level, or they wanted something else. No good experience with that. I want to thank you, Alex, for your posts and videos - They're very helpful! And to ask for your book that you mentioned in this video - Is it free for downloading? Best wishes!

I want to advance and speak fluently in English. I always got stuck everytime I attempt to engage in an english conversation. Even a small talk with English speaking children in our neighborhood I can't find the right words to response!😂😂😂 Pretty sure I have to study harder and practice more to be able to speak fluently. I've been learning English by myself like 2 years ago, but just watching videos and listening some music. So now I need to read out loud and pratice my speaking, cause I can read on my mind fast and understand it, but when I try to speak out loud, my brain just broke. I have to think a little bit more to form phrases, and it spends some time.
Step by step I'll learn somting new, and getting better every day.

Hello from France ! Thank you for this helpful video ! When I was decided to study English again (I had a pause for a few years and lost my English a little) I listened English all day long. On television (CNN BBC.. the news) and of course youtube : English lessons but also regular videos or vlogs with multiple topics. I made some huge progress in a very short period of time. I read also books, write a journal, comments on youtube.... it's so fun and inspiring !

You’re doing all the right things. I forgot to mention keeping an English journal as a great way to practice your writing. Even if it’s not 100% grammatically correct all the time, it’s still a good way to maintain contact with the language and use it.

Thank you Alex for making an introduction to this topic. In fact, you collected a couple of general pieces of advice. A student who commence studying needs them and during his learning process these general ideas will become more precise.
You are correct that speaking out loud is the must. It is a kind of exercise which need to be practised on a regular basis.
You did not mention a word on establishing midterm goal of learning a foreign language. Another issues worth to mention: pronunciation and intonation and a battle with forgeting process of our mind.
Hope that you will create more lessons on this topic. Kindly prepare at least one lesson every six months as a follow up to this lesson. Thank you in advance.

FANTASTIC, Alex! I use almost all of the ways you mentioned. They really work! Currently I'm working on the understanding of TV series and movies. That's a big challenge, a lot of figurative language, idioms, slang and so on. So I get a very small part of an episode or a movie and study carefully just that small part. By the way, engVid has been a great source of knowledge for me since the very beginning of my English learning journey. Thank you all for your amazing job!

You are an EXCELLENT teacher. Thank you for the advice and suggestions to improve our English. In my case, I am using some of the ways you give us in this video, but additionally, I do something like this: I see and listen to videos on boxing from The World of Boxing channel --fights that are clearly narrated--, I transcribe the video in a big notebook, circle the words whose meanings I don´t know and write the words below with their meanings and pronunciation; I use a huge Webster´s dictionary --the CD-- then I make a couple of sentences with the new words. I always try to use the new words inside a real context, for example, if the verb is GO ALL OUT, my sentence is: "In the fight with Marvin Hagler, Tommy Hearns went all out from the very beginning."I always try to make a sentence whose whole meaning is totally inferable.

Mr. Alex, thank you very much for your invaluable tips and recommendations. You have probably answered to my question but If you don't mind, I would like to ask you again the following question: How to learn to speak English in an environment where English is not spoken at all in public? English is always taught in class. All basic competencies: reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary and listening are always taught in class but when you go out English is no more and you are stuck. There's no one and nowhere to practice it because there are not native English speakers. Speaking it in public causes embarrassment and discomfort because most of the people around you are not English speakers. What to do about it? Why you can speak English in class but when you go out on the street, you are stuck and dumb? I hope you understand me.

Thank you very much. For today's suggestions Alex, you are an amazing teacher. lessons that you are explaining I can understand well. So every day if I have some free time after my housework I study English. As you said I tried to leave a comment. I don't know if these are Grammarly correct or not. I think I'm at the beginner level. According to this comment could you please tell me how is my English level? And which parts do I practice? From Sri Lanka.

To learn a new language ,i think you must
firstly find the useful method for yourself.
So,you must firstly spend an imprtant time to draw your special method which can help you to learn easier quicker and constant .

The tiger was not easily found. It seemed as if it had wantonly hid(is it okay to use hid here) itself in order to flout the maharaja's will. The Maharaja was equally determined.
please sir tell me if there's any rule that allows us to use second form of " hide' with "had" ?

I was self-taught until i found engvid. At first all that i used was dictionaries to better comprehend video games, movies and music. Then i went to college and started my shipbuilding degree and had to work even harder on my English because most of the materials, terminology and sources are in English, i've had a really hard time because of technical terms that were not easy to find, even on dictionary or web search, but i somehow managed. When i found engvid i was amazed how easily i could comprehend natives, and started to building vocabulary, i even had my first conversation with a native years ago when travelling. Today i understand 100% of what i listen and i'm currently working on my speaking skills reading out loud, shadowing everything that i can, speaking and creating situations on my head alone.

Actually, English learning (oe any other language) is a never ending process, especially if you are not a native. Nowadays is easier, because of the many apps and this beautiful internet...
