      @@AndiGomez-yu2dx I prefer the GR photos to be honest.
      As for the other two, sure the Nikon photos looks nicer but I think this time it is just a case of the Fuji pics being taken with a poor setting; seen plenty of his other Fuji pics that could rival the Zf's photo in his other videos.
      No question which I'd like to bring with me all day though, the Zf is a hefty hunk of brick and it's lenses are massive (looks real pretty however).

    I’ve been a photographer for about 15 years. Started shooting at 19 out of high school. Got the original X100 in the 2010’s and went from there. Shot film on an Olympus OM-2 and Vivitar 450-SLD in my mid 20’s. I’ve lusted over the thought of a retro / analog style digital full frame camera. Fuji got close, but never quite gave me that feeling of the film days. This camera does. Finally. Hands down the best purchase I’ve made.

    It's funny timing that you posted this. I received my Zf last week and feel at a bit of a crossroads with it and my Fujifilm gear. I'm going to shoot with it during the holidays when visiting family and see if it clicks. I won't ever sell my X100V, but I might part ways with my X-T system and the lenses in favor of some Nikon replacements. Still deciding, but I'm like you - I love cameras. I don't have brand loyalty. I'm a pragmatist - I want the camera that does what I need it to and feels fun at the same time.

    I appreciated this episode, Omar. I have a Z6 which I got before getting into Fuji - first a X100V and then later, due to your channel, a X-T20. I hardly use the Nikon at all but every now and again, I take it out and am amazed at how good the camera is. So the new smaller Nikons are appealing and I have been torn between what I have and falling into wanting mode. Today I was out and about with the X-T20 with the 50mm F2 and was so happy with the experience and results. Then I watched your video. Conclusion, be happy with what you have. The X-T20 is still a great little camera and really lacks for nothing for my style. (btw just picked up a 12mm Rokinon at a good used price after watching one of your vids and am going to have lots of fun with that). As you inferred, what camera you use doesnt really matter in many cases. After all, some of my favourite (and critically acclaimed ha ha) images were taken on a Canon S90 or an IPhone 4.

      Hey @oc2phish07! Honestly been doing a lot of reading on the merits of the Nikon Zf as I am due for an upgrade from my trusty, but dated, X-T3. Considering you have actually had the opportunity to due the Zf and have a familiar grasp with the fujifilm family, I wanted to ask for some insight from you. The Fuji X-T3 has been a treat for the last decade but it's demerits on low-light performance and autofocus have been noticeable. Do you think the pros of the Nikon Zf make it worth it to consider it instead of the X-T5? For additional context, I also have three fuji lens (16-55 f2.8, 33 f1.4, 50 f2)

  • @Abc1987
    @Abc1987 11 месяцев назад +21

    Just purchased the Zf with the 40mm SE (had previously used XT3, XS10 and have an x100v). Definitely an adjustment. The larger size is potentially an issue, but I actually think the 40mm SE is the limiting factor- the lack of an aperture ring makes me feel like I’m shooting a DSLR. On the plus side, the image quality is amazing. Low light images are great, and the video quality and stabilization is inspiring me to shoot more family videos. Nowadays there really aren’t many ‘bad’ cameras it’s just a matter of taste.

    • @TK421-53
      @TK421-53 11 месяцев назад +1

      People all have their pet peeves, IMO I don’t mind the “missing” aperture ring on the Nikon glass, because it hasn’t been there since AF-S. Simply accept it isn’t a Fujifilm lens. Now could Nikon have gone further with the SE lenses, sure, but that would have meant special lenses instead of reskins. That would have added to the cost. You know, want a native retro experience, go Voigtlander Z-mount. That’s real retro, including manual focus. People want their pick of retro. I now accept the Nikon for what it is and I love it. The only REAL issue is the grip. It is vestigial, too small to be ergonomic - at best it might just help you get a final grab if it slips out your hand. IMO only use it with a strap if you do not have a grip attached. The Smallrig Nikon endorsed grip is excellent though.

    • @Abc1987
      @Abc1987 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@TK421-53 yeah I have m mount lenses which look great and to your point give the “truer” manual experience. For those between Fujifilm and Nikon that may be a tipping point- full frame coverage for m or f mount lenses. And manual focusing with the eye detect and the green box lighting up is almost as fun as nailing focus with a rangefinder.

    • @Johnlancaster
      @Johnlancaster 11 месяцев назад +1

      I found the limiting factor is that the lenses that you want are big heavy and expensive. Even the 24/70 f4 is too big for a travel lens, the 50 and 35 1.8 are twice as big as you’d want them. It’s real quality but hard work to use, imho

    • @jaybleu6169

      I was skeptical of the ZF until I got some of the Voigtlander lenses to go with it, especially the 50 mm f 1.2 (in E mount with an adapter). It's a magical combination. That's really the retro experience I've been looking for in a digital camera.

    I've only shoot Canon and I just ordered a Nikon Zf with the 40mm f/2, so I was worried about the lens selection, but after watching this video, I'm happy with my decision. Thanks, Omar!

    You nailed it....if you cant take great images on one, you will not on the other. This is despite all the hype from all of your fellow 'Tubers calling every new gimmick or tech "game changing"...(how did we ever live or take pics without 120 FPS per second?)
    it's still an art, filled with passion, joy and expression. And no camera or lens can give you that.

    I always loved the retro look of Cameras. But i also work as a videographer, and with Fuji i never get warm. They have some great specs for videos but don't get my wrong, i needed something, that can film 4k 60fps longer than 20 min. I bought the Nikon Z9 for this and I just love this Camera, but i always missed retro cam like Fuji have. Now with the Zf and i am already in the Z System, it is the perfect camera to go for me. I get it as a Christmas present and i love the build quality, it is just a perfect camera.

    I've been on the Fuji system for a decade now. Not because I'm a fanboy, but because its what i had, and could afford. I thought all I needed was a small APSc because all I wanted to do was landscape where everything is in focus... But things change, and now I shoot events and portraits, so I'm looking at different options, the Zf is one of them.... but I keep drooling at the window every time i walk by a Nikon Z8, or even a Canon R5, and the Sony lineup. Sigh.. .so many cameras, so little money lol.

    Still love my Xt20 & the kit lens, will always keep it while I love the Z7II & Zf as well. The 40mm is really surprising for a cheap lens.

    I have own every Fuji camera since the X-T1 and X-pro1. Just last month I purchased the ZF and I also love it. So hard to decide which one to take out. I totally agree with you some photos taken with the Fuji turn out mushy and grainy if shot in low light. The ZF just does so much better in low light. In good light both are equally good.

    i'm loving the 3d pop from the 40mm lens. i think its because of great microcontrast. but it just sets it apart from other entry level first party prime lenses

    On the Nikon Z 40mm f2.0, ah yeah it rocks! But um, yeah, if Nikon were to make a compact 35mm i’d definitely go for that. But wait, those Ricoh shots look sweet! PS, great photos of the staff at that cafe!

    Main thing I worry about going away from Fuji is I don't know how to colour grade, Fuji is easy because you just chuck on a film sim and it looks great. I've heard other cameras aren't like that.

    Love all cameras as well! Oh man! You can travel with your Mom, Dad, and your family.
    My Dad used to have a Yashica 120 film that you can fold. He sold that camera when I was 12 and bought me a Kodak pocket camera almost 50 years ago.
    Every time I travel with my wife and kids (in their 20's) I imagine for some moments where I would take my Dad or Mom if they were still alive.
    I love watching your videos and always laugh with you!
    You liiiike! 😅

    My EDC is a Fuji XE4 sporting a 28mm f1.8. First weekend I had my Zf I went out with the 40mm and quite a few places I wished I had a different size. I will be heading out with my 16mm to reshoot a few places. Seemed preferable to standing in the street. I pulled out a 28mm macro manual focus I've owned for 30+ years and I'm trying that this upcoming weekend.

    Never seen so many X-T4 and X-T5s for sale on eBay and other platforms since the ZF came out 😂. I sold all my Fuji gear in June and moved to Leica but as you rightly said all cameras are good. It’s like watches all makers make functional good watches.

    I love both the Zf and the 40mm f/2 ... but I agree the 40 is just a bit tight sometimes and I wish for a 35mm ... which would, in my experience, be perfect.

    Awesome shots and I really like my 40mm f2 too. However, if I should only take 1 lens for a trip with me, it would possibly be the 28mm f2.8. But that's an equivalent of what you have in the GR III :)
    Thanks for the video!
