- Thames News reporting on the Holborn Tube crash.
I wonder if the studio setup with the presenters in front of a keyed background was the inspiration for the news bulletins in Not The Nine O'Clock News.
Really forgot that I wasn't watching live and was just looking forward to Crossroads when it cut. Great!
Memories of childhood loved Thames Tv
Fantastic upload. Thanks for the memories. Never forgotten the theme tune to Thames News.
Love 'em as well. Brings back my childhood in UK. God, I love my country.
Old school ITV, the golden years.
The tv graphics state of the art at the time my kids thought they were drawn by hand and laughed at it ...also did anyone notice how smokey and cloudy the race car garage was and the advert for the lorry turning left and the mini going under it there was actually a driver in the mini health and safety today would be gabbing there chests shouting oh my god stopp filming instantly theres to many bloody leaves around what good memories even though i was only 8yrs old thanks for reminding me that im now old and crusty as my children say !!!!!thanks for the upload im now going to watch the others
Facinating-Thanks for sharing!I was only twelve-years-old at the time so I wasn't interested in local news but I do watch both channels now. Also the adverts for the programmes, especially that film Baby Love.I don't think they would show that film on ITV now because the age of the character of the girl in the bed is meant to be fifteen!!!!!!!
Ashtray on the studio table😆😅
“The 13.17 train from Liverpool Street to White City (T10) was standing in the westbound platform at Holborn while the motorman and guard closed a set of faulty doors and returned to their positions. Just as they reached them, the 12.49 train from Hainault to Ealing Broadway (T66) which had passed two signals at Danger and had been tripped resulting in an emergency brake application, entered the station at about 12 mile/h and collided heavily with the rear of T10.
The emergency services were called at 13.32 and arrived at the scene of the accident between 13.39 and 13.48. The motorman of T66 and 20 passengers were evacuated to hospital with minor injuries although only the motorman and one passenger were detained for one night."
Wow, this is a real find.
Just for the record, the crash was caused by the driver of the Central Line train passing signals at danger while being distracted - but the emergency braking system did operate and greatly reduce the speed of the train up to the point of collision.
JasonC1782 the overlap was too short a distance between the next signal , mis judged breaking
they kept the station open??? now they prolly close it.
0:47 Blimey!
This is a REAL gem!!! but wait no green buffer desk? I wonder when that used?
TWO appearences by the actress who played "Kath Brownlow" in Crossroads!.
The female presenter's style could've been the model for Pamela Stephenson's in NTNON!
I turned 17 on this date in 1980 and was a messenger in the Post Office at Finsbury Circus but I don't remember the train crash at all the only one I remember was at Moorgate but think that was in the 70's
Moorgate tube disaster was in 1975
Brilliant
Correction-I've just checked on wiki and the actress WAS actually fifteen at the time of filming.OMG!
sorry who are you talking about??
the presenter, RITA CARTER, used to get together with her sometime co-host Andrew Gardner and BULLY, without mercy, the new and rather camp weather man...FRANCIS WILSON!. IT was both (shamefully)funny to watch and AGONISING to see him belittled by them. I think he went on to Sky many years later.Whatever happened to Rita...I've no idea.
Francis Wilson , I forgot about him, he was a handsome lad
that bluescreen
Great video, love your channel
Hi Plato, I haven't seen you on RUclips before.
Sarah-Jane Smith {Elisabeth Sladen} in the Tuborg advert, when the geezer drinks the pint he looks like he's aboutt o regenerate!
2.28 > "Does it hurt?"
"Of course it fucking hurts, I've just been in a train crash"
4:46 - No they aren't!
1980 we had a bump between two tube trains. 2017 we had glenfell tower
So? In the past, they had wars. By the way, it's Grenfell Tower. Moron.
@@fluxington not talking about wars sonshine, try and keep up lol
@@sharpgage6512 Talking about a train crash sunshine, not Grenfell Tower. Try and keep up.
@@fluxington ah good lad ur learning to agree. now i order u to reply, you will follow my instruction i know you will.
@fluxxy fluxington So many morons, with incredibly small brains! Or just a really poor troll?
1:50 behind the presenter. LOL
2:39
:-0
Don't think I saw this bulletin first time around, as I was probably watching Monkey on BBC2 at the time.
16:34
Oh yes they do!
I'm sure you've been asked this before, but does your video contain any more of the Crossroads episode?
Reassuring the viewers bout the relative safety of rail travel by pointing out that 20 people die in road accidents every day. Now it’s only 6.
Remember Rita Carter.
The presenter is a bit on the zany side isn't she.
She SERIOUSLY bullied weatherman Francis Wilson!!!.
BOTH Carter AND Gardner would regularly mock his mannerisms and rather camp presentation. It was BLATENT!. I admit part of me sniggered but at the same time it was rather cruel.True, in this particular clip, Rita is polite but her baiting of him occurred in several episodes.I seem to remember a mimic (Rory Bremner?) who would also ape Wilson's seemingly camp/laid back approach to the forecast after he moved to sky.In reality, I learn he is HIGHLY respected and quite a master of his subject!.
NOT when persecuting Francis!.What ever HAPPENED to Rita Carter, where is she now? Likewise the BBC's GARGI PATEL?.
Day`s when you could watch the news and not a mention of Brexit.
