When Docklands had atmosphere...before D.L.R. and other hateful modern buildings defaced the area. When Downtown (Riffel road still existed, like something out of Mad Max) Anyone remember that? When curious one-off cafes existed, when the east and south east of London was a journey of (re)discovery and Surrey Quays station was called Surrey Docks. I hate progress,if indeed this is progress. Oh, and Routemasters ruled the roads...
60 mph, no speed cameras and a very different backdrop then, no millenium dome.
I could remember the Woolwich Road roundabout having these directional signs which were the chevrons between the 2 arrows back in the year.
There was always, at that time, a sickly sweet fermenting smell from a factory on the left before the tunnel entrance.
Called Tunnel Refiney’s that was owned by Tate & Lyle.
How many lights do we need in the tunnel? Yes.
Ahh back when the A102(m) existed
Been through the tunnel a few times , at rush hour , sandwiched between lorries and riding a lambretta . It's a scary place .
Love it somethin rather relaxin like im drivin
So much less traffic than now
Yeah I've never seen it even close to that in the daytime. Probably not even at night.
60?!
When the East End was full of Eastenders.
First time I went through was 1979 and we was the only vhiecle in it. 😮
Better country back then
Very much so, I've come to terms with the fact everything that was quite brilliant has gone, what a shame

Was and still is an unpleasant area
Agreed. Veritable shithole.
Except now, all of London has become unpleasant.
