At Canadian Tire, they had those NCR 7052s with those CRTs, beeping keyboards, but had IBM Model 3 printers instead of NCR 7150 printers. They were looking for alternatives for NCR printers, and IBM printers worked well with NCRs. At the beginning of the 21st century, the 3s, and sometimes they had 4s, were replaced with 4610 Suremarks, keeping everything else intact. In 2005, the NCR 7052s were replaced by Fujitsu terminals keeping the 4610 Suremarks. Those thermal printers could connect to almost anything!

Funny you should mention that. Back in 2003, I went into a JCPenney in Florida, and it still looked the same as it did in this video. Even the NCR 7052s were still in use with their original 7150 printers until a few years later. In the UK, virtually every department store chain except for the JLP and HOF used those exact terminals, as did the catalogue store giant Argos. Most except Littlewoods and Allders (who went bust in 2005) phased them out by the 00s in favour of newer NCR models with thermal printers.

@@liamwatson5125 That's a very unusual combination for an NCR. Most I've seen were always paired with NCR 7150 printers. Then again, I've seen Fujitsu ICL TeamPOS 5000s with Epson TM-U950s and Axiohm (NCR) thermal printers instead of the usual Fujitsu ICL FD21 dot matrix, so some stores do mix EPOS equipment.

I have always appreciated this style of documentary photography or in this case videography. I have had sons of doing it myself probably since this year AKA 1997 as I was just getting out of high school the year before. Unfortunately I have wasted the last 20 plus years and I've done very little of it except for the occasional family get together or random family party.

But then, I saw the kids. One of the boys was wearing an oversized t-shirt and a baseball cap. It reminded me of something my brother would wear at the time. The NCR 7052s were still in use until around the mid 00s. Thanks to being based on IBM compatible/Wintel technology, they had such longevity until they were eventually obsoleted, especially due to changes in the way we use cards for payments thanks to C&P and now contactless as well. No longer did one had to authenticate and get customers to sign dockets that got fed through the franking part of those dot matrix/impact printers. The technology and fashions may have changed, but most JCPenneys I've been to since 2003 still looked the same as this one.

I still think this older technology was faster than what we have today. I know everyone thinks touchscreens and fancy GUIs are the latest and greatest, but the older, keyboard focused interfaces seemed to be much faster, if the cashier knew what they were doing. And don’t even get me started on iPads being used for cash registers. The screens are way too small.
