Hello i have a question, should all 18k yellow gold be the same color? I have 2 pieces/styles of 18k gold ring bought from different stores in italy but one is more yellow than the other. Is it normal? Thank you for your response.
Hello, I am a goldsmith and I make my own carat of gold, 14k and 18k from a pure gold. For to do that, Im mixing the pure gold with silver and copper alloy.. when I started a few years ago, I use to mix the silver and copper 50/50 like some master shows me, the color was bright light gold. Later I took the advice of another goldsmith, to mix it 60% of copper and 40% silver, and now the color is more like deeper bright gold. Its very difficult to explain color in words, but the point is that gold can look in a different colors in the same carat, all is depends on the mixture of copper and silver, you can play with the colors from very bright yellow gold up to very red gold, all in the same carat.
