WOW. This is legitimately so cool. I just bought this and was messing with it and made my first little clip and loved it without even sampling. You really make this look so easy as a small overview, assuming you know the way this works.
I ordered mine and then literally found out about this machine. The ability to record anywhere at anytime is pretty amazing so I'm wondering if I should stay with it or not
Ironically the tech in these things aren't super modern. Dedicated analog circuits have been phased out in favor of more flexible digital tech. However there certainly is something satisfying about a closed system and it's the simplicity and functionality that make these things great.
Show up to a clients house. “Hello, and welcome to my studio.” “Uh, dude this is my hou-“ *whips out brief case and starts laying some fat beats* “wait, wtf?!”
really all you need is a laptop with a free trial of fl studio, and maybe a half decent mic. hell, you dont even need a midi keyboard anymore. Euroracks can be emulated**** now, really no need for a studio at all anymore
As a huge fan of the PO systems and own 13 of em I want to make a suggestion TeenageEngineering if you are looking at this. Can you make two PO’s so desperately needed? Example: PO-34 “Mixmash” 16 channel volume/pan mixer PO-36 “Postman” 32 multichannel cv output sender. So the users can hook up 16 PO’s without having to mess with the volume on each and get a clean mix and the CV to incorporate each piece into a CV signal. Like not sys1, 2 etc but like each device being able to send separate midi outs syncing link through one device! Let me know your thoughts anyone.
@@teenageengineering i am still waiting for the mixer looper It would be awesome if you can produce a 4 track cassette mixer with a sd card digital recorder So you mix your loops into the cassette, fine tune it and record it to a digital recorder (sd card)
I'm about to be using this in class while my teachers think its a calculator! haha also does 40 second sampler just mean a sample can only be 40 seconds long?
if this is a music class then we applaud you and thank you for your forward thinking and for your initiative to introduce pocket operator sequencing to your teacher! if this is any other class we applaud you even more, for the same reasons. 40 second total sample memory is shared across all sounds.
I've been watching this pocket operator thingy and they are damn amazing..coming from a small thing like that.. hmmm..wish i could get one..but im broke as hell hahaha..welp you guys did a pretty amazing jobs on samplers,I wish you the best of luck in your future work
£85 in uk but I think that's worth it for a sampler I love samplers mine comes Wednesday;) can't wait to sample some old Motown records and make some beats
I have no musical knowledge besides knowing how to play the guitar. I've always wanted a synthesiser/sampler like this! Should I invest and just get one?
tldr: yes. - it is an investment indeed and it is probably the best value-for-money option in terms of ultra portable, battery powered, 40 second sampler / sequencer / effects / filter / built in microphone / syncable - kind of device.
Hey! couple of questions: Since it's only 8-bit, is there anyway we could prepare the samples in a DAW using high quality dithers and then import it digitally, rather than through audio? Also, what is the sampling rate of that unit? Thanks!
Is that the A Fist Full of Dollars soundtrack? Was watching that movie and remembered this ad after a few minutes of 'where do I know this music from?'...
Great device! Ordering for sure! I have only one question about recording live instruments to internal KO mic. If I’m right i need to hold REC + target button to record, so it is impossible to record acoustic guitar live for example? Or maybe i can use a clothespin to hold the button? This is the only question that bothers me…
Question here: when i record stuff via the line in, the recorded volume is always a bit lower than the playback volume while recording. In this example it was really same volume, how did you achive that? What kind of cable or setup was used to boost the volume i don't get it.
Just got a brand new PO33. Everything I sample via libe in is recorded with noise and it'snot the cable... is the line in just noisy or do I have a faulty unit?
Does it respond to note off commands? Can it be set to play just a part of a sample if the keyboard key is released? Oops, now I wonder if it even has a midi in? Thanks.
Can I use all of the 40 something seconds of sample capacity in one channel? Use case: sampling a piece of a song from a record to process and slice. Thanks!
i bin looking for a mashine as a sampler and sequencer when i was a chlid, but now i have it!, i can make music on the go, cool little sampler!. saludos desde ecuador!.
2 questions: Is there a way to change the pitch of a played instrument without going out of record mode, hitting the different pitched note and going back into record mode? 2nd question: What is a good way to save wha you created on the OP-33? I tried to use an audio cable to transfer the sound to my PC via Audacity but the quality is pretty bad with Audacity`s standard settings.
Thank you! This are beautiful! Can I recording sound on po-16 like here? Just I like samples in po-16, but I need record function as here or as on "speak". What you recomend for me? I don't like drum-mashines, I like ambient.
you can not record to PO-16 robot. you can record from the PO-16 to the PO-33 K.O! the PO-33 would be the one to choose for sampling anything, including ambient material.
hello josef, thanks for your input. some producers embrace the sound, however we realize this approach is not for all. what is your need, that you feel you can not get out of this device? the current pocket operator hardware platform was chosen for best price / performance ratio. we could of course choose higher quality / cost components but it would raise the price. thanks again for your support!
teenageengineering thanks for taking the time to respond to these messages. I appreciate the good customer service. I love the portability and simplicity of the device. I think it’s a really great product at the price point but I want something that can play samples back at a higher audio quality. I am not technologically literate enough to tell you what quality I would expect the playback to be but if there was a small sampler that was twice this price but.... Forget it. I probably just came to the same conclusion that the TE team came to. If this thing was $200 and had a higher sample quality, it wouldn’t be versatile enough to warrant the price point. The next logical step would be the OP-Z. Anyway, thanks for listening to my rambling. J
hello ricardo, thank you for your support. yes and no, the PO-137 uses the line-in and built-in microphone in the same manner as the PO-33 K.O! however it is based on the PO-35 speak, meaning the recording work best for vocal content. one can record anything but 'wonky' can be expected.
it's got a built-in speaker, as does the whole range of pocket operator units. the improvement on the third generation metal series is the addition of the built-in microphone as well. that said, if you hook it up to a pair of headphones, a set of speakers or a PA you'll be booming in no time.
I connected it to some self-powered ones and it sounds very weak. I connected it to a sound card connected to a PC and you can't hear anything and I connected it to an electric guitar amp and it sounds weak and terribly bad. I don't know what to do now, I bought it for a small live performance and I don't know what I should do. If someone can help me I would appreciate it very much.
you can definitely record your voice on this. you can record any audio using the mic or the line in. on the speak it will be synthesized into a playable synth sound. on the PO-33 K.O! it will remain an audio sample, that you can trim, filter, change pitch and trigger. same same but different.
Had the same problem if you hold bpm then press the number 16 it puts it too full volume you have to do this every time your unplug headphone cable it’s too protect your ears
Just amazing that TE made a Pocket Operator with an odd model number!
expect the unexpected right

Goodbye volca sample, you have been K.O!
just go and see midi hacks you can do with the volca sample, both units are good actually
I ordered mine and then literally found out about this machine. The ability to record anywhere at anytime is pretty amazing so I'm wondering if I should stay with it or not
You could sample and load to the Volca using your phone, but yeah, not as convenient as this.
love the po-33 and still love the volca sample. In fact I love all my tiny synth/drum music machine thingies
This has been one of the most fun TE products I’ve ever purchased.
We are living in the future. An amazing accomplishment. I only wish I could have grown up with pocket operators instead of the OG game boy haha.

Best one yet. This new series is just fantastic. Theoretically you could play a synth into the line in and sample that I’m guessing?
Haut Strange yup
Sure why not
This is very portable.
Soon we would need no studio.
Show up to a clients house. “Hello, and welcome to my studio.”
“Uh, dude this is my hou-“ *whips out brief case and starts laying some fat beats* “wait, wtf?!”
Gregg Carter OP-BC (OP-BriefCase). An all in one studio that fits in a brief case fully equipped with a subwoofer and 10 day battery life
I agree! It's so sufficient so I am not using DAW that much anymore.

Do you plug the output cable into a 1/8 input of an audio interface or do you use a 1/8 -> 1/4 adapter?
jakob who? the output is dual mono, use adapters as needed.
How many samples can play simultaneously in a sequence?

Is it 40 seconds of memory per sound slot?
