Very interesting to think that some day, it's entirely possible that in the distant future soneone will read my rubbish in front of billions...
One of the best ideas ever. Thank you for remembering there used to be a thing called stationery, pens, ink, the written word...in actual cursive. And as anyone will say, we would listen to Olivia Colman read the phone book and enjoy it. This is one of my favorite things I see on You Tube.
Thanks to Benedict and all those dedicated people involved for keeping Literary Correspondence alive…without the written word we would not have such rich and wonderful memories….to hold and be able to read over and over something a person has written is a very precious thing….they make us cry, laugh, marvel and help us to remember the good, sad, bad and indifferent…….letters are tangible evidence of our human existence…..they are an important part of keeping memories alive.❤️🇦🇺🇦🇺
Thankyou Letters Live for gifting me with so many laughs and occasional tears over the years as you shared the familiar journey of the human condition with us all.
So often read brilliantly by actors who imbued each letter with such realistic emotion that it truly made us feel like flies on a wall when it was originally written.

I haved been told by friends and aquantance that the letters I write are very enjoyable as my descriptions of the mundane is colourful and accurate. I haved been also told that they kept them all and the wishes for Christmas is that I write one letter per annum to tell of some happening in my life since moving from the Caribbean to Germany in my little village of less than eight hundred in which I was the only noticeable outsider due to the colour of my skin. That fact has now changed since five years and my experiences somewhat and much hilarious and not so amusing circumstances still occurs which I do share with family in WhatsApp. Just discovered ' Letters Live ' and I am thankful that I found a gem to quench my thirst to hear peoples thoughts that were written down.
I'm definitelt not crying...

I hope the sound would be a bit louder in the future.
The further we get away from pen, ink and paper, the further we are from permanence in thought.
I have done some pretty damned fine writing over the Internet, in a variety of formats and subjects, and while it seems that all that is harmful lingers forever, that while is of value seems to fade away, never to be seen again.
Of course, that happens anyways.
As a History major, and as a nerd in general, I was appalled to see my grandmother tearing up every letter she received as she answered the sender. When I protested, she glared at me and told me that if she'd kept it all she'd be drowning in history and kept right on doing it.
Me? I keep it all, and like she said, I'm drowning in it.
But.
Not ready to let go, just yet.
Permanent yet ephemeral, a letter is a sign of things important to those who came before, and you'll find that while the details are often no longer of any meaning, the overarching themes are still with us and can still teach us, still apply to us, even after thousands of years...read the translations of the world's first customer complaint letters if you think I'm kidding.
I wonder as technology changes and we lose the ability to upload and download files where our thoughts are stored, if we will lose so much more, but I am not completely a Luddite, and realize that the ease and speed of electronic mail has meant that more people connected and wrote than ever before, and that has power too.
So I will keep writing, one way or another, and hope that my words will convey meaning and worth to those who receive it. And if I am very lucky, some old letter of mine might find it's way to the Albert Hall...

I threw away letters from my parents and then wished I hadn't.
