I wish for a DVD of this series. Watching this show together with my mother is one of the good memories I have of her. The pain of cancer consumed her for the last months of her life but on Thursday nights, I hear her laughter as we watch this.
My family and I used to watch this back in the day. My dad loved Lynn's accent and that line about "Looking up my records, and looking at my private parts!" We used to go around the house saying, "look up your records!" and laugh. I don't remember that episode, though. I didn't know that David Wayne was in this. Why won't TVLand, METV or Nick-at-Nite bring this show back? Too expensive? I'll see if some of the collectors I do business with have at least some of the episodes.
Originally telecast on February 29, 1980; however, the opening title WASN'T the one originally shown with the episode {a second season title was used here; Wayne Rogers disliked the first season theme, and had it replaced with "Enjoy the Ride"}.
wow it's amazing what you can find on you tube. I loved this show, but sure don't remember Wayne Rogers as the main character! That was a long time ago!
This show was hilarious. I watched each episode of it. I hated to see it go. I don't know why it got such bad reviews...it was truly funny. It should have lasted at least 5 seasons. Wayne Rodgers must have liked playing the doctor role. LOL. He was cute!!
House Calls never finished out of the top 25 shows in the ratings (in its second season it was 8th). The replacement of Lynn Redgrave (over her breast feeding her child and a contract dispute) with Sharon Gless brought down the ratings but in its 3rd season it was still a respectable 24th. CBS decided to end it anyway
I think the initial rights to put House Calls out on DVD rest with NBC Universal as Universal Television originally put it out to be run on CBS. Maybe Shout Factory could maybe pick it up to put out on DVD as they have put out other shows from the NBC Universal library such as Marcus Welby M.D., Ironside, and Kojak just to name a few.
It's just unbelievable how many great shows like this still aren't available on DVD!!! These companies rather force terrible new television shows down our throats in hopes we will eventually forget House Calls or Trapper John M.D. Even After M*A*S*H is better than 99% of the TV series today and there's no DVD for that either...WTF.
Another show I'd like to see released on dvd is Holmes and Yoyo, the 1976-77 police comedy with Richard B. Shull and John Schuck. Someone should start a petition. It has been released, but it's in French with no subtitles or dubbing. How stupid!
Thanks for posting this. I had forgotten how cute Lynn Redgrave was in this show. At the time, there were plenty of typical hot females on TV, but I always thought Lynn was classy beautiful. I knew when she left the show in Season 3, it would tank. And it did.
@@TrevorEMayo Lol, I don't even recall making that comment 10 years ago. But the show was never 4th in the Nielsen ratings. It was 14th in Season 1, 8th in Season 2, and 23rd in Season 3, which led to the cancellation sparked by the Redgrave birth controversy. CBS was always a network that cut it losses whenever there was trouble.

I can't even find a torrent for this show.
I LOVED this show! I would buy it on dvd in a heartbeat!!
Rest In Peace Wayne Rogers and Lynn Redgrave.
I forgot this existed. I watched all the time, when I was a kid.
The background music played after the theme song was actually part of the original theme song in season 1!
I remember watching "House Calls" briefly on WPIX-11 in the Spring of 1987.
Definately one of the classier medical sit-coms.

No DVD available for a show that was directed by Robert Altman? For shame!
