It amazes me, nobody bought an actual rain barrel to test the Oatey diverter rain water system , plus level the pavers underneath fir s sturdy base! Nice job. 👍🏽
@@j23siempre On similar products I have seen (one of which I installed on my home) the water at the barrel end is meant to back fill the pipe when the barrel is full so eventually the pipe will fill completely and the chamber in the insert will fill up to and overflow down the main pipe. You need to make sure the maximum fill level on the rain barrel is just above the top of the central overflow chamber though otherwise the pipe won't back fill and your barrel will just overflow instead.
Would have been easier cutting if you make the top cut first, then take the lower section of downspout away and cut on a stable platform and put it back when finished, instead of hacking away against the house.
I've had this over 15 years ago, the 1st version. My advice is this needs frequent cleaning because there is a lot of debris will end up here in this diverter.
excellent job; you also show how precize and careful you are in your work. I am sure your wife must feel very secure with you around. Does the end of the lower part need soem sort of closure with tape or so, to prevent bugs crawling in? Very good work Roland - you rock!
I would have liked to see it actually in operation. I just ordered mine but when one looks inside it just doesn't seem like it's going to divert that much water. I'm hopefully going to be surprised.
+Shannon Cleveland - I have the same concern - that not enough water will be diverted. Can you please report back as to what you think of this unit? Seems that most water will just go down the center and would take a really long time to fill the barrel.
It diverts quite a lot of the water. But if you’re in a heavy rain, and your spout is maxed out, it will miss most of that. This unit will work great for medium sized rain storms. Too much water, and it will miss it.
Maybe that inefficiency is deliberate in order to comply with the anti-harvesting laws you mention. It works as a kind of forced limit to prevent anyone from hoarding all the rain that naturally fell on their own roof.
The registration is to prevent unsafe rain water collection. Unsafe rain water collection can breed mosquitoes like in third world countries that has no laws and regulations of rain water.
is this good enough as in when your container is filled with water, does this product automatically starts draining water as usually? And thereby not causing any water clogging outside/on the wall of the house?
It will drain from the hose until the hose is full. So, if you somehow sealed the hose into a drum it would then drain out the spout. But it would probably just drain over the side of my drum in my configuration.
+Ric T. 49 it's worked quite well. I haven't noticed it getting clogged with leaves and such. And I've been impressed with how much water it collects. I haven't used the water for much, my garden is a failure this year!
These don't work well. Put a bucket under the diverter hose, and put one under the gutter. The diverter catches only a small fraction of the total water.

I recently installed one of those, I found it easy to remove the downspout to make cutting easier, then re installed. Overall works great Good video.
So what happens when the barrel gets full of water? Does it spill out the sides?
@@j23siempre goes down the other part of the downspout

Use a speed square and make lines. Much more accurate and is quick to do it right.
Non manufacturer approved method. 🤣😂. 👍🏼👍🏼 I like that. I use those methods all the time. 🙂
Great job explaining. Safety gloves might be a good idea. I was worried when you were sawing.
+Peggy Duncan good point. Thanks for watching!
What’s that? Lol Good observation.

I would never register a water barrel. That's absolutely ridiculous.
They can’t enforce that, that just want suckers to give more information about them without asking
its $40.00 on Amazon now!! jeeze!!
You’re de best man. Thank you so very much.

put a proper gutter guard screen on top of the gutter that easy
Thanks for this informative video.
I need to get one of these. Awesome video.
You're going to lose a great volume of water by using this device. Just use a supply line filter.

how many coders does it take to install a rainwater collection system ? :)
Another great video!
Nice vid.. you are definitely a perfectionist, that's not a screw up ; )

+Shannon Cleveland it diverts quite a bit. However, I live in Utah which doesn't see much rain. It really depends on your area

I just installed one. Filled two 50 gallon barrels in no time. Unfortunately I can't get it to stop...the barrels overflowed.
Great 👍🏽 idea
Wonder if there was a way to plug up the bottom of this contraption so that all of the water would be diverted?
Right? Seems like it would take a lot of time to fill up a barrel.
Could make one in metal please, plastic is ended for me.
what about leaves and debris clogging it?
Create a sand filter, it will curb your fear of drinking it

just to collect water u have to register smh head
I love government overreach! 🤣🤣
very nice, how have u liked it since this video ?

I gave you a like just for "the stupid certificate " lol😀😀😀
Bought this and tried to install it. The gutter is too big even after a few pinches on the sides. Any recommendations?
You can use a metal crimper on the ends to shrink the diameter to fit.
Must not have been a good product. Can’t access either webpage for purchase. Is it discontinued?
Fixed
Nice video
You just ruined a perfectly good down gutter
That $18 diverter is now $50 in 2022.
Links in description don't work.

Seems to me like you will get little water from this
