I’ve heard this song, the original, so many times, and never understood what it was about. Listened to Paolo’s cover for the first time today, now I understand.
I love a singer who can make me understand a familiar song in an entirely new way. Paolo Nutini ALWAYS does this with any cover tune I've ever heard him do. He's one of the best interpreters of songs that I've ever heard.
Read this in an article regarding this song: "Jagger gave the UN special permission to use the classic Stones' track free of charge - but he insisted Paolo record a version more suited to the cause. Last night Paolo said: "It's a real honour to be asked. "Mick doesn't wantmy version of Gimme Shelter to be like the Stones' original, which is very sexy and dirty. "He wants it to be much more emotive to highlight the cause. "We want to draw attention to what's happening to the people in that war-torn region."

It's sad what has music industry turned into. In 1980s-90s we had Metallica, Rolling Stones (still), Enya and more and more and more good quality songs playing in the radios and now songs or covers like this are left to be invisible. However I feel special knowing Paolo's work as he is not as famous as some Bieber kid.
I like the original version, but this is like a new song, soulful and deep. Paolo revived this song with his unique voice and his passion and filled it with a real sense. No murder, just revival! That's it.
