  • Gibraltar Cable Car is a fun way to get to the Top of The Rock of Gibraltar. The Gibraltar Cable Car is easy to get to from the main street in Gibraltar. The Gibraltar Cable Car is a short ride up and down only about 5 minutes.
See my guide here about getting up: www.thespaingibraltarchannel....
If you are coming to Gibraltar for a visit you have to get to the top of the Rock to take in the excellent views! Gibraltar has historically been a military stronghold controlling the entrance and exit of the Mediterranean.
This video goes through a brief how to take the cable car, the ease of use, the dangers and precautions of the monkeys and the price to go up and down. There is a cafe at the top of the the rock and the hours of the cable car are limited to make sure to plan accordingly.

Thanks for the upload. Very helpful for our decision making what and how to go around when visiting. . I checked the Cable Car website and can see that it now costs , for return incl., (as of 06 Mar 2023) GBP 18.00, (13-64)y., 5-12y. = 8.50, over 65y + students = 16.50). Going to the top (one way) (no return) and going to the "Natural Reserve" St Michael's Cave, Skywalk, Windsor Suspension Bridge, Great Siege Tunnels, World War II & City Under Siege Exhibition, Moorish Castle, 100 Ton Gun and various Footpaths within the Upper Rock Nature Reserve) = GBP 32.00, 22.00, 30.50). About the monkeys: It also might not be the best idea to try to film them with one's smart phone and approaching them up to 2 feet from them. One is plainly just "asking for it." So much for the smart phone ...

Thank you for your comment, I sincerely appreciate it.
Here’s an article I just wrote with some more information you might find useful about getting up to the top. I also talk about my favorite things to do, which is heading up the cable car, then hiking down through the Reserve.

And, yes, I tend to take a lengthier approach away from them, and stay back. They like to snatch things and jump on you!

Are you able to see Africa from the TOP OF THE ROCK? My wife and I are visiting Gibraltar in June 2024

Yes!! It has incredible views just be careful for the monkeys! If you have a back pack or something on, they wait for you to turn around, and jump on you to try to open it and find snacks 😂

It's nice to see the Simians attacking humans wearing toupees rather than back in the 1970s when they used to rip all the rubber bits off a FIAT 500 whilst travelling through whipsnade safari park .

I'm sure they have some sort of schedule around that. I know right now we have a storm thats blowing in for a couple days, so I'm sure that everything is closed right now. When are you visiting?

What is the cost fir seniors?

So the price listed on the video show ages 13-64 is starting at 17 pounds. But, I didn't see a price reduction for over 64 years old. I think maybe I cut it out on the video.

It's been there multiple times. It's a bit unfortionate how you make the monkeys sound so terrible. Yes, they will try and steal and yes, they will jump and sit on ur shoulder, but they will not bite or do anything scary unless you try and touch them.

More than anything its advice for people to be careful. Any one jumped on me and ripped off my necklace which left marks. It did dig its claws in to my neck. I'm not trying to make them sound horrible, I'm just stating facts. Just the other day when I walked past Princess Charlottes battery to a not so crowded area, the monkeys started surrounding me and making lots of noises, which was a scary experience. So yeah, anyone would take heed to be careful around them as they are wild animals!

@@thespaingibraltarchannel That is part of the warnings that you get over and over and over. If you wear something that sticks out, expect them to do something. If you don't wear anything that sticks out, they'll ignore you like any other.

@@Acceoss I also think they get used to the people that work there. When I was there last week observing them, the staff just walked by with ease and the monkeys didn’t even pay any attention to them. They are quite intelligent.

that is not advice that is totally the opposite the author probably did something to the apes knowing full well that they are wild mammals roaming freely and they will always defend themselves and their own

Not sure it is worth the stress with the monkeys

    • @thespaingibraltarchannel
      @thespaingibraltarchannel  2 года назад

Yes, you need to be very careful up there. If you go up make sure that any handbags you have are put away. Do not carry a white plastic sac, the kind you would get from a grocery store, the monkeys automatically think it is lunch and will try to take it from you. I've seen that happen several times. If you are walking by them, and you have a back pack don't turn your back to them. That's how the monkey got me.
When I was up there, I was very cautious about where the monkeys were around me. I did not want to get to close to them at all! But I would say, if you think something like this might scare you, I would probably recommend doing something else. It's cool to see them, but it is definitely a little bit stresful.
