    I feel like blocking is kind of a lost art. Maybe it's the greenscreens, but I watch most movies for the last like fifteen years, and I couldn't tell you where people are even standing in relation to each other. Basic stagecraft seems unimportant to a whole generation of filmmakers.

      It is crazy how much more they do with the basics of just how the scene is put together in older movies. It really makes you feel like you are in the movie experiencing it with the characters, not just watching a screen.

    How dare you make a nuanced take appreciating the art and offering constructive feedback. Didn't you know that all internet discourse is binary? I think a lot of the blowback from this movie is caused by the animosity built up by the social commentary surrounding the first one. One side was saying how it glorifies incels and that it will radicalize them into violence. This movie is different thematically but builds on what the actual underlying story of the first Joker was and because the gamergate goobers are trying to make gamergate two electric boogaloo, they're jumping on every potential controversy that could come from this and blowing it up. And most of the people who still passionately care about that stuff are the most terminally online. They'll believe that the woke studio forced Todd to chastise the incels and rap them on the wrist to tell them they're nasty people.
    I do hope that more movies come out like this. Not necessarily musicals, but the return to fundamental film making where everything isn't edited like a Mr Beast video because studios care about watch time over actual quality entertainment. But I'm starting to lose hope. The fact that studios are chomping at the bit to get Ai in the writer's studio suggests that we will see a Joker movie that is a homologation of every instance of the Joker and chuds will like it. You can't challenge audiences anymore because they will riot.

    W TAKE. The story is pretty good, and the acting and cinematography are fantastic! They just needed to cut out most of the musical numbers (only a couple of songs work IMO) and it would have been a better-received movie. However, the first movie was so good that it would be hard to follow up no matter what they did.

  • @Allen.Christian
    @Allen.Christian 2 дня назад +1

    I thought the story was already poorly paced and that the musical beats were a relief to that. I like this one more than I liked the first. I never liked the first one, mostly because it just felt like Todd Phillips aping more talented filmmakers (or, y'know, one much more talented filmmaker), but I did like the last bit where he's become Joker. It didn't make it a good movie, but it was still a good sequence. This one I thought was at least interested in telling its own story and exploring Arthur's character. Even if I don't think it did an amazing job of it. It's a C+. Maybe a B-.
    I agree with Frankie, the most interesting thing about this movie is that it actually deals with the consequences of the first one. I love when someone takes narrative responsibility for a big, bombastic climax. That's one of the few compelling reasons to make a sequel. We all like to see these big dramatic events take place, but nobody thinks about having to live with it. The Gary Puddles testimony was the best thing in this movie.

    For me, I don't care about this second movie, and I did not like even the first movie AS A WHOLE, because I only liked the artistic style and iconography, because the FEELING that that first movie made me feel I just felt more and more uncomfortable, because the way that it is shot and directed and everything simply points to manipulate the audience to simply praise in awe Arthur Fleck as "the Joker". It is too much for me regarding this specific message that the movie was constantly trying to push. But, as I said, I liked the artistic style and iconography, I just need to remove the context, and yeah, then I'll watch that clown dance on those stairs over and over, pure beautiful art and iconography without the context.

    I don't hate this movie even though I don't like it this movie. I'm not that super upset unlike most people who didn't like musicals which I can totally understand. even though the songs in this film are really not rememberable and I like musicals if it's done right. I like the first Joker movie I just wish this movie doesn't exist, it had great ideas in that movie it's just the execution is your biggest problem at the end of the day. It trying to be way different artistic Joker movie.

    Well ya said I’d be disappointed so I shouldn’t be surprised😅, no hate tho. Honestly, even though I still think it sucks as a movie (zero progression, boring af), the “anti-movie” aspect of it kinda grew on me.
    I still don’t like how their solution to making him stop being the Joker was getting him gang-r@ped. That’s fucked on so many levels that nobody should even try to justify it.

    Joker is overrated trash just like the comic it's loosely based on. Why would you think Joker 2 be any different. Btw Joker was a loser in the first movie. of course he still is in the 2nd.

    Is French really that hard for English speakers? I guess any language is hard for the average english speakers which isn't their local dialect.
