I just finished swapping out my steering wheel on my '16 F150 XLT with the huge help of this video and your other video that shows to to remove the wheel. Thank you very much...
Hello, Great video. Just a quick question for you. I have a 2018 Lariat, and I intend on swapping to a Raptor steering wheel. I do not have adaptive cruise or any of that, so I will need to swap the bezel and buttons with my current. Will I also have to take the wiring from my current steering wheel and swap out with wiring with the raptor wheel? Thank you!
I want that dark trim with smooth leather with gray stitching. I do not have adaptive cruise. Do I have a choice. What part number do I need..? Some please help!
Watch my video which is linked above, it has the part number for the gray stitching. Now, to keep your non adaptive controls, all you have to do is take your current trim and put it in the new steering wheel. Also, you have to take the wiring internals from the old wheel, and put it in place of the wiring stuff in the new wheel. Good luck.
Where did you get the new steering wheel from? I have a 2015 Lariat with the heated steering wheel and would love to have one with the premium smooth leather instead of the fake textured material that it came with. Thanks and great video.
I got it from my local dealer. You can also get it from Tascaparts.com. If you click on the link in the description, it'll take you to the removal video and the part number is listed for the heated wheel with adaptive cruise.
Is there any safety issue with popping out the airbag? Obviously safety comes first, but does anything need to be deactivated prior to removing it? Thanks for the video!
Do you have to completely remove the steering wheel to remove the trim? Or can it just be removed after removing the airbag and disconnecting the trim plugs?
I replaced my XL wheel with a leather one. I want to remove the trim from the old one to paint it. Are the buttons removable from the trim or will I need to just tape them off to paint the surrounding trim?
wil young I had all of the options on my old wheel. If your truck doesn't have the options, it won't with the new wheel. You will have to use your old trim/buttons.
I would go for the gusto. Get the 2017 Platinum wheel and just swap your trim into the new wheel. Everything that you have will plug in and work. The plugs that the platinum has that you don't will just be dormant once you swap out the wheel.
wil young unfortunately I don't think so. The only way it might is you would have to buy the wheel and the airbag, take off your existing wheel and see if the connections are the same. But my guess is they will not be. Sorry!
yea I thought about that but was just hoping. I have another question that maybe you will know. I have an XL addition and My steering wheel only has controls on the left, no cruise control or sync. very basic truck. if i change the wheel with to a wheel with controls on both side will i have use of those controls? is there existing wiring behind wheel?
Possibly yes. It will take some computer programming, either done by the dealer or somebody with FORscan. You can purchase FORscan as well, there is a big thread on what you need to do to get it on F150Forum.com. Good luck!

Ozzie Alarcon of course! Glad I could help. It's truly still one of my favorite mods.
Cool.
I'll leave my wheel on the truck when I remove the trim.
Thanks for the video.
Hi, were you able to do it? Any problems to share? Thanks
🎉 Thanks. I just needed to know how to remove airbag to change switches.
Thanks for making this video! It was quite helpful for switching out my F 150 steering wheel trim!

Great video I have a question what happens if the bolt is not very tight on a steering wheel will it rattle the column
Most likely. It will also cause other problems so make sure to follow manufacture recommendations.
Great video, thanks

ehawklive If you watch the linked video in description I go over what to do prior to changing the wheel.
@@DSeely0902 oh ok. I didn't see that link. Thanks!

From what I remember, you don’t have to take off the wheel to get the trim off.
Do you have the old platinum trim that came from your truck will you sell it ?
I replaced my XL wheel with a leather one. I want to remove the trim from the old one to paint it. Are the buttons removable from the trim or will I need to just tape them off to paint the surrounding trim?
Yes, it’s very easy. Once you remove the trim you will see the screws and plugs to remove to get the trim off.
Where did you find a platinum steering wheel?
From the dealer. Just tell them that you want a 2017 Platinum steering wheel. It will have the gray stitching as seen in my other install video.
Do you still have this trim piece that you took off this wheel?
Unfortunately I do not.
@@DSeely0902 shoot!figured it was a Longshot lol looking to replace the trim on my wheel but don't want one of those cheap covers they sell online.
Do you have all the function of the new steering wheel?

thanks, trying to upgrade to a XLT trim from a XL trim. Thank you Andrew.

thank you, is there a way to add sync to a xl?
Yes, but for true Sync 3, you will have to buy the 8" screen. There is a huge thread about it on F150forum.com. Thanks!
will this fit a 2013 ?
wil young unfortunately I don't think so. The only way it might is you would have to buy the wheel and the airbag, take off your existing wheel and see if the connections are the same. But my guess is they will not be. Sorry!
